This review is from: The Press and America: An Interpretive History of the Mass Media (Hardcover)
After conferring with librarians at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, I selected this book to guide me in teaching a non-credit college course on the history and future of newspapers. The textbook does that job well -- it is used in several journalism schools at top universities -- but there are two drawbacks: It needs to be updated again, to report the surge of online media, and the price for anything approaching a new copy is quite steep.
