Book Description

October 2003
Massimo Lucchesi has compiled a comprehensive overview of one of the most widely used collective defensive tactics in modern soccer: Pressing. Minimising the space and time available to an opponent in possession is the goal of the pressing game and if successful will undoubtedly lead to counterattack opportunities and more goals! This book will explain the tactical concepts of pressing and offer a number of exercises to work on the pressing game in both the attacking and defensive zones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gives you more depth in tactics, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Pressing (Paperback)
This book is suited for coaches who wants to learn more about defensive tactics. It's not a book for beginners although many exercises in this book should, in my opinion, be utilised already in youth soccer to help youngsters understand basic defensive skills.

This book is really good.

Mr. Lucchesi explains what pressing is and why a team should use it. He also explains pressing in the defense zone and in the attacking zone. The book contains a lot of traning exercises whith most of them quite helpful.

The book covers all possible topics of the art of pressing and there are many diagrams and pictures so even though the topic sometimes can be very difficult it can easily be understood through these pictures.

When reading "Pressing" you can sense the professionalism and the knowledge Lucchesi has. The only downside of this book as far as I'm concerned is that it is too short. Only 100 pages on a topic that could easily be written more about.

And maybe he could have written more about how top teams apply Pressing in an effective way. With that, I would have given this book five stars.

Absolutely worth the money.
