5.0 out of 5 stars Quality time well spent!
My son received this for Christmas! He is eight, and this is the perfect version of the game for him to get aquainted with. Although the pieces are plastic vs. marbles, and the board is cardboard vs. wood, it is a great version for any youngster to learn the game, without mom or dad worrying about it being ruined or pieces being lost! It is also some of the best...

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap board
The game is fine if you don't mind the fact the the game board is a cheap cardboard stand up. With the weight of the game pieces it sags horribly in the middle. Pay a little more and get one with a real game board

Although the pieces are plastic vs. marbles, and the board is cardboard vs. wood, it is a great version for any youngster to learn the game, without mom or dad worrying about it being ruined or pieces being lost! It is also some of the best time we can spend. It allows all the children and adults to play together, up to six players at a time! Perhaps something that is not done, as much as it should be, anymore! The whole family got into this one, and really had some quality time together. It is an easy game for children to grasp, the price is right! This was all around family fun! If you are into Chinese Checkers, and have some youngsters you want to introduce it to, this is the perfect version to do it with!

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic Chinese checkers, October 24, 2001
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

The game is as ever Chinese Checkers. Six players can play at once and jump each other to make it across the playing board. As for the board its made out of plastic and offers a color coating for the marbles and each side where the marbles sit. I will have to give this game a plus for its durability, because if you can find a child that can destroy these plastic marbles enter them in the Olympics! Speaking of the marbles, children can swallow them easily so if you have small children, keep this away from them!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic game, March 9, 2007
I have Fond memories of playing Chinese checkers when I was a kid. Now that our children are old enough to learn and enjoy hours of fun with this classic game, I could not pass up this purchase. There are different ones out there made of different materials, but I liked this one because it reminded me so much of the old set that I had. Great colors for easy recognition as well. I only say that because I have noticed where some people have complained with other sets that the darker, space age look of some boards make it a big more difficult to see the marbles. Pleased with the price as well as the timely delivery. The set comes with instructions and a full set of marbles for up to six players. I would rather my children be learning to use problem solving skills and strategy from something like this than escaping into a video game that portrays the needless killing of human beings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price, December 19, 2000

The little balls are plastic and the board is cardboard; however, it is still a fully functional and worthwhile game, especially for the price! This version may be good for children who you fear would lose the pieces easily, or do not expect to be enamoured by the game for more than a week or two. Then again, the board could be easily torn, stomped on, stained, etc. because it is not very sturdy. Still, well worth the money. There aren't many items you can buy for this price these days--this is worth it. If you are looking for a family game to last a generation or two, I suggest you look at a more expensive model.

The cardboard board folds, so does not lie flat. Thought having the lines would help my grandson understand how the checkers have to be moved to play, but so wobbly they just roll off the board. I threw it away. Don't waste your money.

My family loves the Chinese Checkers game. The price for this version is unbeatable. But the quality is not intended for a game to keep. The game board is made of thin cardboard and it would not stay level, so we have to tape the board to a flat surface every time we play. The game set is light so it is easy to carry around. I bought this game for a travel with my three sons of elementary to high school age and it served the purpose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chinese Checkers: The Ancient Simple Little Game, November 16, 2008

Though it isn't phenominal, it is an enjouyable game.
I wouldn't get it if you have worries about young children
putting things in their mouths -there are MANY marbles.
On the other hand, for children too young to play it does make a fun little toy.
The board is actually a tray of card board, and if the directions
don't already say so I would advice keeping it in the box for support while you play. The board's somewhat flimsy, and can get easily damaged if it's used without the constraints of it being kept in the game box.
Educational-wise: The game consists of jumping over the other player's marbles (like regular checkers) in order to get all your pieces in the triangle on the other side of the board. So perhaps it's very elementary mathmatic but not particularly. It does have a moderate ammount of strategic methods that coudl be developed while playing (Nothing too hard, a 5-6 year old could learn how to play.)

Tips from my experience:
-Keep good track of the marbles, as small little balls they can be easily lost.
-Take care of the board. As I said above it's a little flimsy.

This game is very poor construction. It is made of flimsy cardboard. It is hard to even put the markers in place. We attempted to play one night and it was impossible for my kids age 10 and 8 to keep the markers in place.

This was very over priced. I believe I pd $18. I would not have even paid for this at a dollar store, with this flimsy material

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun family game, poorly made, July 29, 2011

At $6, I am pretty sure I overpaid for this.

Chinese checkers is a fun game, and children as young as four understand the rules and can play independently. I was glad to find a cheap version, but it is cheap in price and manufacture. The game board is cardboard, and will most likely not last a year in the hands of any but the most careful child. The marbles don't stay in the holes when the board is moved, and there are exactly enough marbles to play, with not a single extra.

I am glad I purchased the game; it's a good learning board, and now that I know my family enjoys it, we may invest in a better-quality game when this one inevitably becomes unusable.
