5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stethoscope, good price
I had a Littman which I loved and lost, and needed a replacement - pronto - as I am in nursing school. I ordered the Prestige for price, length, and weight. There are many inexpensive scopes with a double tube towards the diaphragm and this adds to the weight. I have also tried some with poorly fitting ear pieces, which more or less renders them useless. 2.0 out of 5 stars Quite disappointing
I am really disappointed with this stethoscope. During assessments, I find it difficult to hear heart and lung sounds with, which is what I need it most for! This is even when there is relative silence all around. Imagine how difficult it is in the clinical setting. Compared to a Littman, there is no comparison, even though it does look a lot like one. If I could do...

There are many inexpensive scopes with a double tube towards the diaphragm and this adds to the weight. I have also tried some with poorly fitting ear pieces, which more or less renders them useless. This has a very sensitive diaphragm, well-fitting ear pieces (and two sets of replacements)... it is a nice color, excellent length, good weight, reasonable price, and arrived quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended by my doctor, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Prestige Clinical Royal Blue Stethoscope (Health and Beauty)
When I started EMT school several years ago, I had to have a physical. I went to my doc and during the exam, I asked him about stethoscopes. I reminded him that I was a student, so my budget wasn't very large. He flipped his scope over and I saw that it was the Prestige Clinical I. He got his after his expensive Littman was stolen in the hospital on rounds. He jetted into a nursing uniform shop and picked his up. That was about 8 years before I saw him. I went out and bought the same one (about $40 at the time). I have never regretted it. My classmates liked it better than their Littmans, my instructors lusted after it and bought their own, and very few people will steal them because they want the Littman name. It is very comfortable, durable, great sound quality and excellent value. If you are just starting out or are an old pro, I highly recommend this scope. My doc owns his practice and has the budget to buy whatever he wants, but he has yet to change from his Prestige.

I was very happy with this purchase. I work as a veterinary technician in ICU where I use this stethoscope 20 to 50 times a day and it has great sound and a solid feel. It was recently put to the test on an extremely overweight cat which makes it VERY difficult to auscultate the heart & lungs through all the fat, and it performed well. I was able to get an accurate heart rate while another technician had given up. I highly recommend this stethoscope, it's comfortable and it was available in one of my favorite colors, royal blue! Happy patient monitoring...

I bought this scope to use for blood pressure and apical pulse measurements. It does the job just fine in my opinion. I probably wouldn't recommend this scope for anything much more advanced than that. This is my first stethoscope, and I have to admit I spent a good 20 minutes playing with it and trying to adjust the earpieces before I figured everything out without instructions. The picture shows earpieces that look fairly straight but they are actually very angled and not really adjustable. For the price, I think it is a worthy scope, and I feel comfortable recommending it to CNAs and CNA students. I just wish that it was more adjustable and came with more detailed instructions.

I love this stethoscope!! The drum is super sensitive, so I can hear everything. I'm a Medical Assisting student and I really needed one. I took with me for me externship and took BP on a patient WITH A SWEATSHIRT ON and I could still hear the beat clearly!! Awesome!

The Prestige Clinical stethoscope is a great value, I think. I was surprised at the clarity of sound from it, something I've only heard prior on much more expensive pieces. While I'm not sure how the ear pieces will hold up (replacements come with the unit), it's perfect for me (now retired and only occasionally really need a stethoscope). I think the price is so reasonable, every household should have one. I recently diagnosed my spouse's bowel obstruction with this stethoscope, and in this case this device proved to be life-saving.

This is even when there is relative silence all around. Imagine how difficult it is in the clinical setting. Compared to a Littman, there is no comparison, even though it does look a lot like one. If I could do it over, I'd invest the money in the Littman instead! I totally feel like I've just thrown $30 down the toilet. :( There's a reason the Littman's are popular! Um...they work!

2.0 out of 5 stars good news/bad news, March 11, 2010

I rec'd this in the mail last week. I immediately opened it up and tried it out on myself and was thrilled with the sound sensitivity, particularly considering the price. But, the ear tubing wasn't angled quite right for me and I found myself having to hold it in a particular position for optimal sound. As I have many times with other stethoscopes in the past over 35 years of practice, I turned the tubing a slight bit to adjust the angle of the earpieces; this disconnected the tubing inside, rendering the entire instrument useless. Needless to say I will return it and try another model.

Good quality, good sound, but I'm used to wearing it around my neck. Can't do it with this one. Heavier than a cheapy or a Littman, and it keeps falling off. But great for the price.
