5.0 out of 5 stars A Strange Mix, March 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Prestige/Folklore Years, Vol. 3: Roots And Branches (Audio CD)
But a good example of the variety of artists who cohabited on this label. Rev. Gary Davis sounds particularly out of place here, being the only true "roots" musician of the bunch. On the other hand, this compilation contains many otherwise unavailable tracks which give a rare glimpse into the surprisingly influential Boston-area bluegrass scene (kid brother to the huge Boston folk boom). Included are telling early cuts featuring fiddler/Bell Labs engineer Tex Logan and Banjoist extrordinaise Bill "Brad" Keith, whose work influenced a generation of young banjo players.
