Multi-purpose gadget you'll actually use,

I was about to buy a "FryDaddy" small deep fryer at a retail store when the clerk at the checkout asked whether I'd looked at this item right next to it (she'd just bought one herself). I went back and swapped my FryDaddy for the Kitchen Kettle, with no regrets. This gives you deep-frying capability but also functions as a sort of non-crockery slow cooker. My first weekend, I deep-fried chicken wings on Friday night and then made a chicken-and-rice dish on Saturday, with fine results both times. The heat does come from the bottom, I should note, not from the sides as in a true slow-cooker. Some may not like that. The instructions include recommendations for cleaning the non-stick bottom if it becomes discolored. The kettle is non-stick inside and out. Best of all, unlike my older-model slow cooker, this one can be immersed (after you unplug the electrical unit). Because of the danger posed by hot oil when you deep-fry, the unit has a magnetic breakaway cord. Tripping over or tugging the cord will simply separate it from the unit rather than tip the unit over. (Even so, be careful with kids around.) All in all, seems to be a good buy -- a multi-tasker rather than a specialized item that will wind up in the yard sale.

Excellent Product with Many Uses,

This is a great product that heats up VERY fast, shows quality in design and the teflon seems to be thick rather than the paper thin coating on cheaper appliances. Only time will tell if it holds up but so far, no problem, even using the Whirley-pop popcorn maker top on it to avoid the aluminum pot that comes with the Whirley. It makes the best popcorn I have ever had with no burning and every kernal popped, set at 350... and it does it FAST. Here is my recipe: half cup premium popcorn, tablespoon of canola oil or peanut oil, 2 tablespoons of raw, unprocessed sugar or brown sugar, 1 teaspoon salt. Within minutes the lid starts to rise right off the pot. It is great for soups, deep frying, baking potatoes, etc. Great product that inspires creativity.

Great product for the money,

We were looking for a fry-daddy at the time of finding the Presto Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cooker. The salesperson recommended this instead of the fry daddy telling us we could use it for more than just a deep fryer. We bought it and absolutely love it. Being able to regulate the heat unlike the fry daddy makes this a universal cooker. We have made spaghetti, goulash, chicken, chicken and noodle soup, and it makes great popcorn. Also it makes a big pot of chili. We highly recommend this product.

Great except for non-stick finish not sticking to the pot!,

I discovered the Kitchen Kettle while searching for something to make my daily pot of soup... and keep it warm. The Kitchen Kettle is fantastic for this BUT, after only a couple months use the non-stick surface is coming off at a tremendous rate! Is this usual or do I have one that is defective. Except for this fault I would rate at the highest level. Is there anything out there that is remotely the equivalent of the KK? I suppose, at about $20/pot that I could replace one every 2-3 months but that seems rather silly.

Great for occasional use,

I purchased this cooker and was greatly pleased with the temperature controls, giving it a versatility other cookers don't have. However, after continued use (daily), the non-stick surface pits and peels (and this is not at high temperatures at all). For the casual user, this is a great product. Easy to clean and use and a good buy for the money. But for someone who plans to use it every day, I would suggest something with a cooking surface that will not come off with repeated use. Try something in stainless.

Awesome multi-cooker,

We bought this cooker because my husband wanted a deep fryer and I wanted a slow cooker. We were living in a small apartment and didn't have room to buy multiple appliances. We just figured we'd buy seperate ones when we moved to a bigger place. But this cooker is so wonderful that we decided to keep it. We use it at least once a week and it is still like new and is so easy to clean.

Best for making homemade french fries,
By Carol Pogie (Big Bear City, Calif) - See all my reviews

We have been using this Presto cooker for french fries, my hubby is an avid french fry maker and this cooker makes them the best! Will hold up to 3 large potatoes when cut to french fry size, we cook them at the 375 degree mark. If it works this good making french fries it will work great for making fried chicken and other fried foods. This is so much better than the fry daddy on the market! Try this one, you will love it.<br />
P.S. keep the oil in this one after use, only change your oil when it starts to taste funny or is darkened from use.

I actually bought one off Amazon and ended up finding one at Wal-Mart for a few dollars cheaper. I decided to keep both of them because they are so versatile.
I often make pasta in one and a pot roast in the other. They go in the fridge and I put the pot part in the dishwasher and it washes nicely. The non-stick surface is great! I usually deep fry with the basket out and just use tongs to get the food out I've also used them at a friends party for a warm dip in one and cocktail meatballs in the other. I've had mine for two years and use them constantly. I would definitely purchase again.

Not good for deep frying,
By
This review is from: Presto 06000 Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cooker (Kitchen)
I bought this product to use as a deep fryer, and I do not Presto 06000 Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cookerrecommend it for this purpose. The first time I used it, I set it at the maximum temperature (400 degrees) as directed by the manual. I let the oil preheat for about 15 - 20 minutes (this seemed like a long time, but again, this was the manual's direction) and the temp light went off, indicating the oil had reached 400 degrees (so I thought). I put in some breaded okra (a small amount, about 1/3 of the basket's capacity) and I immediately knew that the oil wasn't hot enough, as it barely bubbled when the food hit it. I left the okra in the oil for almost 20 minutes and it barely turned brown. The second time I used the cooker, I again set it at 400, and checked the oil (with no food added) with my kitchen thermometer once the cooker temp light went off. The temperature was only 290 degrees. I left the cooker on for another 10-15 minutes and it got up to 300 but would not go higher. This isn't hot enough for good results with deep frying. If you want only to make soups or stews, this apparently is a good product. But it's not the best deep fryer.

I bought this presto cooker for my mom this past Christmas. She had bought one many years ago and told me this was the only model she loved and wanted another one. It works great and she couldn't be more excited. She had to adjust her temperature settings on it to get it to the right one, but even with that little adjusting she didn't care. She loves it and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good cooker!
