5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great!
I purchased this pressure canner after having one of the original canners from many years ago. This is so easy to use - lighter, easier to close, easy to read gauge. I love the jar support- it is so much better than the old wire basket. Each jar is firmly supported. No more wobbling. This canner is absolutely great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Pressure canner capacity
One of the reasons I bought a pressure canner was because you could use it for pressure canning as well as boiling water bath canning. When I read the instruction manual for the canner, I found out it is not tall enough to do quarts in the boiling water method. You can only use it for pints in the boiling water method. I had to buy a boiling water canner to do quarts when...

Never had a canner before so took a while to decide on which one to buy. I really think this was a great choice. The canner works perfectly and such a joy to be able to can all my vegetables from the garden. I highly recommend this as a First Canner Purchase. It's not too big and not too small for a beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars review of Presto pressure canner, July 23, 2008

This product was recommended to me by someone who also uses a Presto pressure canner. I have been very plesed with the product. It was delivered in a timely manner. Instructions are included with the product that are easy to follow. The instruction manual also includes directions for canning specific fruits and vegetables, information about canning utensils and proper canning supplies. This size canner will process a 7 quart volume at a time. For a novis canner like myself this product was a perfect choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Presto Canner--Love it with three piece weighted gage addition, April 11, 2009

I have two Presto canners and I love them but I didn't used to.

Babysitting the dial gauge is a pain and I haven't canned enough years to know what stove setting holds the pressure steady at the right weight. After researching, however, and as a previous reviewer mentioned, you can order a three piece weighted gauge that fits these canners for $15 or less if you do a web search for model #50332. Not only can you confirm this with Presto's customer service but you can order one and confirm it yourself with the dial gauge.

So now I have the weighted rockers for 5/10/15 lbs (the 10 lb is actually weighted for the new recommendation of canning at 10.5 lbs)I don't have to keep coming back to check the pressure every 5 minutes. If it's too low I'll hear it stop and I don't have to worry about over cooking it because the rocker keeps it from going too high.

The two reasons I give this product 4 stars is because I believe that Presto SHOULD REALLY be including the three piece rocker with it. It would make it a premium canner at a much lower price than others. Also, I have concerns about cooking foods in aluminum pans, especially if your cooking at the high pressure temps, but it's simply not relevant to me as I don't cook with it for this reason, just can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canner, May 19, 2008
This review is from: Presto 1755 16-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/Canner (Kitchen)
This canner was just what we were looking for. It works great on our new glass top range. The bottom is flat & it fits the burner size very well. Our old canner was not flat on the bottom & could not be used on our new range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great canner!, July 25, 2008
This review is from: Presto 1755 16-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker/Canner (Kitchen)
This is a great canner that lives up to every expectation I had. It is plenty big enough for a first-timer, holding 10 pint jars or 7 quart jars per batch. I was concerned that the 22 quart size would be too big for me, and I was so glad I got the smaller, 16 quart size canner. I can fill it, process, and move it around easily. The gauges and pressure overflow valves/stopcocks perform exactly as described in the user's manual. This is a purchase that you can make with confidence. Expect to be wowed by this canner!

I'll let the other reviewers speak for the merits of this canner. I just wanted to chime in with something...

If anyone wants a 3-piece weighted rocker for this canner, it is available from Presto's website as a replacement part for the model 01745 canner. That model is/was sold by WalMart and does not have a pressure gauge. Instead, its rocker is a 3-piece unit that can be set to 5, 10 and 15lbs of pressure. I have confirmed with Presto that it will fit this canner.

5.0 out of 5 stars great!! First time Pressure Cooker user review.. READ!, February 26, 2009

ok - i purchased my first P Cooker and it was a 8 qt stainless steel. i was enticed in because of the "steel"..
The instructions were ok with it.. but the first meal i made i kinda even burned a bit. it said "make sure it was at 15psi".. well with no GUAGE how was i to kno?? i started asking around and come to find out - you CAN cook in a Canner.. and dont worry about the stainless steel vs the forged aluminum.

i returned the other and got this bad boy.
washing and initial setup was easy cheesy.
and off i went.
So - FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT STEP IS TO SEAR YOUR MEAT!!!!!!
trust me. sear it in a cast iron pan or something.. than follow a recipe. try allrecipes.com
i made beef short ribs with potatoes and veggies in a wine reduction semi-sweet brown sugar sauce.

i turned the stove to high, sealed it all up and waited..
nervoulsy i heard things starting to whistle and make loud noises as i watched the guage.
well - up it went to 15 psi and i started my timer and set back the temp knob to Medium High.
20 min later i removed and let it come down under its own accord.

the unveiling was incredible... i removed the lid - and a BURST of the most awesomest smells came out filling the kitchen.
removed all non meat parts..
and when i got to the meat - i picked up one bone to get the meat out and OOPS, the meat just fell like cotton right off the bone!

dinner was great.. my father in law and wife and i all finished off a MOUND of food. i cooked up about 6+ lbs and it was all gone!!
they swear it tasted like something from a 5 star restaurant and the most tenderist juciest meat they d ever had.

thanks presto!!

One of the reasons I bought a pressure canner was because you could use it for pressure canning as well as boiling water bath canning. When I read the instruction manual for the canner, I found out it is not tall enough to do quarts in the boiling water method. You can only use it for pints in the boiling water method. I had to buy a boiling water canner to do quarts when I thought I would not have that additiional expense. The canner works fine for pressure canning but I am dissapointed I had to buy the second canner.

I have been using this canner for two years and love it. I can't justify the expense of an all American canner even though they are said to be the top of the line. This presto is affordable, simple, accurate and just easy to get along with. I would certainly get the adjustable rocker weight gauge as an accessory. I used it once without it and it confirms the accuracy of the gauge and you don't have to babysit it. This canner gets the most use (I have the 23 quart as well) because it is the perfect size for smaller batches of leftovers. Hubby doesn't like eating leftovers the next day so I can soup, chilli, stew, etc and have convenient meals for later, nothing wasted.

This canner is so easy to use I fill hot steril jars, cap and start canner and let it process while we eat. The batch is usually done before the dishwasher is, and it runs off low heat and on a glass cooktop to boot! Most people think I've slaved in the kitchen all day to make a meal (slow cooker), can it (just vent, bring up to pressure and time it), and do all those dishes (dishwasher)! Not only is it easy and take minimal effort but now I have cheap, nutritious, easy heat up meals for later in the week or year without paying the utilities on a large freezer. And I can heat up delicious canned soup in minutes from a jar, it takes much longer from frozen. I'm LAZY! Presto let's me work smart, not hard!
