3.0 out of 5 stars Presto Cool Daddy
I like this frier, its a nice size and its easy to use, it cooks the food well. The only complaint I have is that is easy to burn yourself using it. The part that holds the greese sits ontop of the Frier and its exposed and easy to hit when youre stiring up the food so it doesnt stick to the basket. There should be something plsatic that it sits in or something. I have...

Works exactly as advertised, have had no problems. Fairly easy to setup. Easy to clean up compared to frying in an open skillet and having to clean the entire work space. Actually, very little needs cleaning, just the basket, the insert and the inside of the lid, and unless you spill oil on the outside of the fryer, there is nothing to clean on the outer shell of the fryer. Really nice feature, being able to put the food in the basket and closing the lid prior to lowering the basket into the oil, totally eliminates the danger of hot oil burns. Very happy with our purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fryer for the price., December 23, 2008

When you take the food out be careful to hold the handle towards the bottom. If you hold handle at the top the steam will burn you.

This is my first deep fryer. It's pretty lightweight, but it worked well. I didn't fry a lot at one time, but the results were perfect. Easy to clean the removable lid and basket.

I love the the fact that I can close the lid before lowering the food into the oil, and lift it up to let it drain before opening the lid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like any appliance filled with hot oil!, April 1, 2010

Have been using this fryer for months. It's great!

That said, yes, most everything the one, two, and three-star raters said is true.

It get's hot. Yes, it's "cool touch" when compared to the original metal Fry Daddy. If you touched those, you got burned. If you touch this, it's just hot. But what do you expect...it's 375 degrees.

It doesn't get hot enough. Yes, it only goes to 375 degree. I'm guessing there's liability issues at play and small appliance manufactures probably don't want to market a home fryer that's over 400 degrees for fear of being sued when someone burns their house down. If you put a truckload of fries in there, you have two choices: fries that are just done, or greasy crispy fries. I think this has to do with dropping too many frozen fries at once dropping the temperature. I opt for plan B, I fry them in smaller batches so I can have them crispy without soaking up too much grease. I think it's safe to say the same is true of every other home fryer.

The door is spring loaded. Yes, you will want to release the lid with one hand and ease the lid up with the other.

It generates steam. Sure enough, it's hot and when you drop a basket filled with moisture-heavy goodies it's going to produce a lot of steam. Keep you hands away!

It holds oil, it gets hot, it cooks stuff. All-in-all a considerable improvement over the old Fry Daddy. (Or putting an open pot of oil on the stove!) I like the basket, the lid, and ability to clean it. I feel much more comfortable loading the basket, putting it in, closing the lid, and then lowering the basket into the oil than I did chucking things into my old Fry Daddy and hoping to not get splashed or scalded. But please, make no mistake, it's a FRYER. I think it's considerably safer than the old Fry Daddy but you still need to be careful.

This thing is great. Easy to use. Easy to clean. The protective cover looks good, protects from the heat and lessens the frying odor. I'm happy with my purchase.

This is about as basic of a bargain as you're going to find in any category. The features might seem pretty basic but they are obviously the result of years of feedback, simplification, and engineering. Only a couple of things keep it from being perfect (5 stars) for its category.

The good:

1. I love the way the top closes and opens. It has an extra strong spring for an auto-open feature. But you have to keep it from flipping open too quickly or the inertia of the lid with almost flip the thing over backwards. It won't really do that but you're likely to over-react because it will make you think it is going to when it happens. In any case, holding your hand over it when pushing the release button solves the problem nicely.

2. Food can be lowered into and lifted out of the oil without having to open the lid. This is an awesome feature that minimizes any oil splatters getting out onto you or your counter tops. Good work, Presto.

3. Nice window. The window on top of the unit is reasonably large and easy to see through.

4. Nice size. It holds just about 1/2 gallon of oil so a 1 gallon bottle will fill it twice. And the design makes it possible to cook most things with that amount. It will cook enough for two moderate eaters or one big single.

5. Handle is easy to grip. Instead of a regular horizontal handle, like a pot or pan has, there is a handle more like a big coffee mug. That is easy to grip and move around in a very stable manner.

6. Temperature control knob has a wide range. Goes from 250-375 over a 270 degree rotation.

The less good:

1. Lid flies open too fast.

2. Handle gets almost hot but still able to be handled.

3. No "OFF" position or switch. Unit must be unplugged to shut it off. But safety plug on rear makes that very easy.

4. No handle on oil tank. A little rotating handle like an old water pale would have worked nicely.

All in all though, I really like this fryer. Looks like it will be very easy to clean and maintain. It makes good fries, which will be its primary job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fryer!!, June 11, 2009

We purchased this almost a year ago from Amazon and it has been great! We love that you can raise the basket and it latches in the up position out on the oil. Put your frozen fries or whatever you are frying in the basket and close the lid. yes you are able to close the lid with the basket in the up position! After you have loaded the basket and closed the lid lower your food into the oil and you are protected from splatter!! To take them out raise the basket to the up position out of the oil and let it drain a few minutes open the lid. Again since the food was raised when you opened the lid not much splatter. Keep in mind though that when loading the Cooldaddy with the basket up that there can still be splatter from really small pieces of food that falls through the basket like tiny chipped of pieces of fries or ice. Great product!

I bought this deep fryer over three years ago, and am as pleased with it now as I was when I bought it.

The oil heats quickly and stays hot, the sides of the fryer get a little warm when in use but that is to be expected. The fryer is a good size, not too big and not too small. If you were going to do a full fish fry dinner for a family of four I would reccomend a bigger one or buying two of them. When I first received the fryer I used it once and then it would not work again, I sent an e-mail to amazon, they sent me a new one and picked-up the old one, no fuss no muss. You couldn't have asked for better customer service. This fryer gets used at least twelve times a year and works great.

I bought this fryer based on all the positive reviews here at Amazon and I am quite happy with my purchase! Amazon had a sale on "damaged box" fryers for considerably less than the "new" price (clicked on the "used" marketplace items -- it was actually new and sold by Amazon, not a marketplace seller) but the box had never been opened and the fryer was in perfect condition, as per their description. I have been very happy with this fryer -- my only prior experience was with a "frybaby" and this is a night and day difference! The basket is huge -- I was able to cook my low-carb fried clams in only two batches, rather than the five or six I had to do with the fry baby. And this one is so much safer!!! I love the way the lid closes and then you lower the basket down into the oil safely! And the outside does stay cool!! I make sure to put a hand on top of the lid before pressing the button to open it, and it opens nice and slowly without popping up. The oil was plenty hot enough for my clams and they cooked in record time, too. I did a LOT of research on fryers before purchasing this one, and for the price there is really no comparison with any other fryer on the market right now -- you could probably get a similar or better one, but you're going to pay a LOT more for it. The deciding factor was when I did a video search for "cooldaddy fryer" on the 'net and found some videos of these in action -- that's a good way to see all the features and how large they are before purchasing one.
