5.0 out of 5 stars Silly? Sure. Useful? YOU BETCHA!
We laughed and laughed when we received this "as seen on TV" slicing and, well, grating "miracle product" as a gift. Who would actually use such a crazy thing? Well, it turns out that we would, frequently. It may not dice, but it does slice beautifully - thin and uniform, as well as grating everything from cheese to potatoes to carrots to ... you name it. We use it...

3.0 out of 5 stars the noise was a problem
I had one of these for about 10 years. While it did a great job grating cheese, it made a painful screeching noise - to the point that about half the time I couldn't bear to use it and would just grate by hand. (And I'm not particularly sensitive.) It made this noise right from the beginning; since no one else has complained, it seems possible that I had a bad unit...

We use it almost daily. If you're a vegetable eater or a cheese lover, you won't know how you lived without it. Easy to assemble and disassemble, and it's dishwasher safe, although you do have to position the parts correctly to maximize water flow and cleaning. You can do a fine or a coarse grate, a straight or a wavy slice. You can even get an ice shaver for making snow cones. It does have some limitations. While it grates all kinds of cheeses (softer cheeses work best when chilled), it can't slice cheese at all. Nor does it slice onions, celery or other "stringy" vegetables well. It will grate them, though. It slices cucumbers, carrots, summer squash and similar vegetables beautifully, but the chute is too narrow to slice most cukes or zukes whole -- you'll have to split them lengthwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little appliance!, June 3, 2005

I have not had my salad shooter long but I have been very pleased with how easy it is to use and how easy it is to clean up after using it. I use a lot of coconuts making coconut kefir from the coconut water and then I have to find something to do with all that coconut meat or throw it away. After having so much coconut flour and coconut milk, I still had more left over that I did not want to throw away so I started shredded it. Shredded it by hand meant I was also shredded my hands. Not an option. After reading what others had written about the Salad Shooter, it sounded like something I would rather have than the shredder attachment to my Kitchen Aid. The reviews on that was not as good as the reviews on the Salad Shooter. I ordered the extra attachments for it and was surprised at the speedy delivery. One was not included in the order for some reason but they were swift to get it to me. I had intended to use it mainly for shredding the coconut but once I had it I started using it shredding vegetables and cheese. It is so easy to shred the cheese right over the skillet when I am making omelets. The attachments has a funnel that is suppose to direct the food to right where you want it but I have found that it does not always shoot the cheese right out but holds it back inside. For me, it is much easier to just hold the shooter over where I want the food to go. I do not like to have lots of extra appliances all over the place that I hardly use. This one seems to be in use for something every day. I have not used the slicer as much as the shredder but I will probably be slicing vegetables more to use with dips instead of the chips that I am trying to get away from.

Years and years ago, someone gave my mother a salad shooter. She was so impressed - and Mother knew everything "kitchen" - she bought me one. I don't even know how many years I had it, but she has been gone for 6 years, and it was long before that. Well, last week, it was grating some potatoes for me, and it just gave up the ghost. For some reason, I'd never considered that that could happen! My beloved salad shooter was no more. Well, guess what! I came right to my computer and ordered another one, which, thank goodness, came today.
Maybe I should stock up in case they stop making them! How does anyone cook without a salad shooter?

5.0 out of 5 stars Not essential but very helpful, August 3, 2004

I only use my Salad Shooter for carrots and celery. It is true that celery strings get caught in the blades, but I found I could alleviate this quite a bit by pulling them off first like you're supposed to do. But usually I just cram them in since its so easy to clean up afterwards. Just open, run under water, pull out anything that's stuck and its done. I have used it a few times for cheese, but mostly I buy that already shredded. I use this nifty little machine several times a week. It makes finely chopped veggies that you can't duplicate easily by hand. And its quicker from the time I pick it up until the time I put it back than chopping things by hand alone. And its safer too. Also I find I use more carrots and celery than I would otherwise. Great for salads, of course, but also for adding celery to potato salad etc. You can also split raw zuccini into quarters and slice very thin pieces for salads or soups, something I wouldn't normally use because of all the bother. All in all, I have definitely gotten my money's worth. It definitely gets used often. It is very sturdily made and doesn't take up much space. I would highly recommend this machine for anyone who loves salads and especially for vegetarians. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Salad Shooter--perfect kitchen tool, September 14, 2004
By
The Presto Salad Shooter is awesome! I received one for a gift several years ago after my mom recommended it. She loves hers. I love mine and would not be without one. It has lasted well and is still going. I am now shopping for another for my sister. It works super for slicing potatoes for casseroles or shredding for hashbrowns and I love using it for cheese. You can shred it right over your homemade pizza or lasagna---very handy. I hope they never stop making them.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my salad shooter!, November 15, 2003
This review is from: Presto 02910 SaladShooter Electric Slicer/Shredder (Kitchen)
When I first saw this item advertised I laughed. Why would anybody actually want something like this I thought. Then I received it as a gift about 10 years ago and have used it to grate cheese & eggs for egg salad. It's wonderful! It's quick and easy and so is the clean up. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find this product at any of my local stores anymore!

This is our second shooter. The first is still going strong. However a couple of the cutter blades has some cracks. It was almost as cheap to buy the entire unit than replace the blades from Presto. Amazon.com has the lowest price that we could find and with FREE shipping...What a deal. GREAT product.

I wouldn't be without my Salad Shooter mainly because it shreds cheese like no other product I have used. My first one lasted many years and I just had to order another one sadly because no stores seem to carry it. One of my fav kitchen gadgets!

My Mom had been looking for this item for ages, they no longer sell it in the store. She loves her so much, she thought it was better than getting jewlery for her birthday (she doesn't get out much :) ) I recomment this item to any one who wants to make shredding food a breeze.
