An awesome show! One of my top 5 favs!,
This review is from: Pretear: Complete Collection (DVD)
When people think of the magical girl genre of anime they tend to think of sailor suits, lame one-liners, and pathetically weak monsters (i.e. Sailor Moon). Pretear, on the other hand, breaks from the mold and breathes new life into the magical girl genre. Pretear follows the story of Himeno Awayuki as she struggles to fit in with her new and wealthy family after her father remarries. Meanwhile, in another world Leafenia, a terrible evil known as the Princess of Disaster breaks free from her prison to wreak havoc on Earth. Now the 7 knights of Leafenia must find the Pretear to help combat the evil forces at work. Himeno, of course, turns out to be the Pretear and must overcome her inner battles to save her home. Himeno transforms into the Pretear by "merging" with one of the knights through a process known as Preeting. This way she can command the knights power. The transformation scenes are nice and short and there are no silly poses or endless speeches given. The animation is simply superb and the character/plot development will hook you in. There is also a healthy dose of romance and comedy that will make fans of the romantic/action/comedy genre very happy. I HIGHLY recommend this show to all anime fans. I especially love the box this collection comes in and I plan on watching this anime over and over again.

Complete collection of Pretear is show only!,
By
This review is from: Pretear: Complete Collection (DVD)
This so called complete collection of Pretear is just the show only. ADV reauthored the original 4 DVDs into 3 discs for this collection by dropping all the on-disc extras. Nevetherness, this collection is an economical way to pick up this show if you don't mind about the loss of extras. On the bright side, this collection is thinpak'ed and comes with a chipboard collector's box, just like their other complete collections.

A gift,
This review is from: Pretear: Complete Collection (DVD)
I bought this for my Friend for her birthday, and when I accidentaly let it slip that i was getting her this, she flipped. Once I got it in the mail she made me give it to her. She has fallen in love with it.The story Is based around a girl named Himeno, who has just moved into her new house, with her Step mother, who has two daughters. Her Father, a drunken out of work romance novelist, searching for a nice home for her daughter, has just found a new love. One day, she meets,( or should I say, bumps Into,) a cute guy with a really bad temper. His name is Hayate, one of seven knights who protect "leafe," the earths Energy. They need the help of the Pretear to defeat the princess of disaster, who is after all the Leafe on Earth. It just so happens that this Pretear is none other than Himeno, and soon she is called on to destroy The Princess of Disaster, if she can survive all of TPOD(princess of disaster) Seeds, mastering the Leafe of the knights, High school, and Her new Step sisters. I give this Dvd collection a 4 out of 5. Great with Anime, not with extras. I suggest to buy another version if you want extras. ALSO, please note that Manga fans will NOT have their recommended dose of Pretear. The manga and anime differ, so I would not buy this with High hopes that it will be just like the manga. Kei looks differentt, REALLY different.

A True Timeless Classic for all Time!!,
By Kitty "Gu Brath Faol" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pretear: Complete Collection (DVD)
Personally, I'm a huge fan of anime - in it's original form... before it's been hacked at and mutilated by "Dubbers" - but I'm extremely picky in what I watch and what becomes my all time faves. I've sampled quite a few bad shows before and this isn't one of them. I'm not just saying that, I happen to be a really harsh judge. However, only a few people can understand its appeal. It's like opera (not to be taken in the literal sense) you either love it or you find it a waste of time and kinda boring. However, most people I talk to about it, love it.I can see where people are coming from when they say that it's like Cinderella and Snow White, but personally, I think it's a bit far fetched to say that it is in fact: "like it." The similarities stop after the whole stepmother, stepsister's complex, the fact that there happens to be "seven" knights and the one tiny detail at the very end. No, they don't ride off into the sunset together on a beautiful white horse. When you put these similarities aside, you'll see where the creators changed it. Her father is still alive, her stepmother likes her - she just happens to be a little hard on her - and not once does a fairy godmother appear. There isn't a poison apple, golden pumpkin or a fancy-smancy ball. The closet you come to "prince charming" happens to be one of the Knights - I don't know about you, but I certainly don't remember Snow White hooking up with one of the dwarfs - so really, when it comes down to it, the plot it quite original. One of the things that was stoping me from buying this DVD was the fear that it was just going to be a rip off from the timeless classics, if anything, I think it puts those timeless classics to shame. It's ending is truly beautiful. The only thing I have against it is that there weren't more HimenoXHayate moments. Those two are up there with my all time favourite couple SakuraXSyaoran ... and that's an accomplishment. A big accomplishment! Rating:- out of 5 stars. Plot line: 5 stars (the story gets really deep at some points in the series. You can tell it wasn't just thrown together sloppily in one night.) Visual affects: 5 stars Romantic moments: 5 stars (The HimenoXHayate moments are simply gorgeous. They make me "Hanyaa" every time. -CCS fans will understand-) Music: 4.5 stars (the music is beautiful and fits with the show all the way through it) Replay factor: 6 stars (no that's not a typo. This is so totally watchable again and again and again. It's something you watch when you feel down, because it picks you right back up again. It's totally special. So worth what you pay for it. I'm never going to stop loving this show!) So basically, if you're a fan of the cute animes like Cardcaptor Sakura, then you love this show. If you're not, you'll still most likely appreciate it. It's not annoying like Sailor Moon; it's for a much older audience then that. Children can watch this show and like it to, don't get me wrong. I guess what I should have said was that this show appeals to a much wider audience... although, to be absolutely truthful, it does have two characters that over exaggerate just a little, but it wouldn't be a proper anime if you didn't have those characters. It really is a piece of art. Something that's going to be up there with my all time favourites till the day I die. I just hope you give it a chance. It may start off ordinary but it's far from it. Give it a go... I'm positive you won't be disappointed. Oh, and gomen for writing so much. XD

a great mix of two fairy tales,
This review is from: Pretear: Complete Collection (DVD)
Pretear is a great but oh too short anime series. I throughly enjoyed watching all 13 episodes though. I had picked up the series on random after hearing so many people say how excellent it was and I must say I am glad I did.The series starts off sort of chessy and I did not know if I would like it too much. The monster of the day or should I say demon larva of the day was sorta repeitive for the first 3 or 4 episodes but once the real plot was formed I couldn't stop watching the series till the very end. I reccommed this series to those who any type of magical girl anime, but especialy to those who adore Sailor Moon. There are many similarities. And plus the show incorprates two fairy tales, Snow White and Cinderella from the first episode till the last minute of episode 13. Though the show was very short and I finished it in 2 short days I will look forward to watching it over again.

Cute, but not for everyone,
By ChibiNeko "Sooo many books, so little time!" (Whereever I go, here I am.) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)

Pretear is, for lack of a better description, a modernized anime magical girl version of Snow White. While Himeno doesn't talk to animals like Snow White does & her stepmother isn't wicked (just a little self absorbed), she's still bossed around & bullied by her step sisters (one more so than the other). Enter a group of beautiful young bishies (each fulfilling a different type of bishie-ness), who proclaim that she's a princess that has to save the world from bad things that want to destroy everything.I liked this series, although I will admit that at times I got a little frustrated with the cuteness. Still, it's a small flaw & I ended up really enjoying this series. The characters are cute & there's a bishie for every fangirl (even the shouta fans). Would I recommend this to a friend? Only to the ones who like or can tolerate shoujo. The others wouldn't really get into it. Still, I'd recommend this to most, even if it was only as a rental.

Very Cute anime set. Sometimes sad.. Still addicting. Always wanted more, wanted to see what was going to happen next. Where they say it's like : Cinderella and her Stepsisters. It is in a way, and not. her mother is not mean.. and her One sister plays pranks, only. I suppose I can see how they would relate this to the disney classic though. Regardless!! I loved it!! Lot's of magic, and fun, and action, and crushes!

Product link:Pretear Complete Collection -Check my purchases to see which exact product I purchased but, under my order that is what it says. This is an absolutely adoreable anime! If you are looking for an anime appropriate to any age group ( even adults ) this one certainly fits the bill .It is not your usual boy, girl beat the bad guy genre- It delves into deeper issues, acceptance, alienation, love, rejection, issues that we all face, most especially during the young adult years. It deals with these important issues in a humorous yet simple and straight to the heart way .This one is a must for your young adults collection. The dubbing is well done and the voices were right on the money, and as those who love anime know a choice of bad voice actors can ruin a perfectly good anime. Graphics are nice, clear and a pleasure to watch. To briefly inform you parents out there looking for an anime to gift your ' Young adult ' with, it is about a young girl of 16 named Himeno Awayuki. Her mother is dead, and her father has just remarried to a very wealthy widow with two girls of her own ( it actually brings to mind a combination of two fairy tales most of us grew up with and in fact is sometimes referred to as The Snow White Pretear). Himeno feels a bit out of place.Going from living in a small house as the daughter of a struggeling author of Romance stories to living in a mansion, complete with servants, as the daughter of the most wealthy family in town. Her stepsisters are also unhappy with this new change, and the elder, Mayune and younger Mawata, snubs her and pretends she doesn't exist. Himeno tries her best however, and pretends not to care that she's being snubbed by everyone. Meanwhile, there is a group of seven Knights looking for a special someone. This group consisting of men and boys are what's called 'Leaf Knights'. These Knights ( four young male Knights and 3 Leife Knight children ) protect the Leaf in the world (the 'life force', if you will) from Fenrir ( the forces of chaos ). . The Leaf Knights are looking for a girl who can become Prtear, to aid them in their fight against Fenrir. The problem is that without a Prtear, they aren't strong enough to beat Fenrir's forces on their own. So six of the Knights go out searching, and Hayate ( girls prepare to drool ), who doesn't *want* to find a Prtear, goes out walking. Himeno is at the same time running to school, not wanting to be late. She collides with Hayate, and imagine his shock when, as he helps her to her feet, he feels the shock in his hand that signals that this girl is what the they have been searching for! So Himeno becomes Prtear, and must learn how to use her powers. Becoming Prtear involves doing something they call 'Prt' The Prtear and one of the Knights clasp right hands, and a 30-second NTS (nude transformation sequence, beautifully and tastefully done ) ensues, in which the Knight becomes a ball of light that Himeno embraces and the ball of light is consumed by her heart and a transformation occurs in which they become one .She is costumed according to her powers that are gained from the Knight and the Knight can now become a weapon for her use or speak to her with advice or encouragement, the knight also becomes a shield and takes all blows meant for her-He CANNOT allow her to be hurt ! With determination and courage she overcomes her fears and weaknesses and her heart becomes strong enough to battle Fenrir and it's ruler, Saihi..What is the outcome.. Watch the anime and find out-Too good ! A bit of advice, have a few hankies ready.

I picked this Anime because it looked very intresting and I was right. It has good sound good pictures unlike some anime. The story goes along with all 13 epsiodes it dont get off path to a different story but sticks to the main story. Its about a girl named Himeno, who has just moved into her new house, with her dad and Step mother and step sister's. one day she was late to school she took a short cut and ran into Hayate, one of seven knights who protect "leafe," the earths Energy. They need the help of the Pretear to defeat the princess of disaster, who is after all the Leafe on Earth. It just so happens that this Pretear is none other than Himeno, and soon she is called on to destroy The Princess of Disaster. Its verry good a must see anime even my male friends who hate girl films LOVED it. |
