My 3 year old son just got this for his birthday and has been playing with it nonstop for days now! Best of all, the food from the LeapFrog shopping cart works with this cash register. About 10 minutes after using this toy, my son was able to tell the difference between all of the coins and he loves to put the extra price tags on his other toys and scan them too! The coins did get stuck one time so far, but it is really really easy to get them unstuck. I would highly recommend this toy as a math, counting, learning toy!

Great intentions, only one complaint, October 25, 2003

This is a great learning toy, but my ONLY complaint is that the coins get stuck in the drop slot. When my 3 year old got this toy for his birthday he was very excited. After about 5 minutes of playing with it, the coins got stuck in the machine...and he lost interest. Everytime he plays with the cash register, I end up having to get the screwdriver out to "unplug" the stuck coins. It interrupts play and therefore he moves on to a different toy.

We gave this cash register to our 4 yr. old and 2 yr. old last Christmas. It has since been used for countless games of "Store" and is still working and looking great (5 months later). As a parent and home educator, my favorite feature is the coins, which are made to resemble actual coins, but are surrounded by color-coded plastic rings to help children learn to identify the correct amounts. The price scanners are another neat, unique function, as the kids can customize price amounts for their store "merchandise." My children remain interested in this toy, partially because cash registers just add to the fun of pretend play, and perhaps partially due to the four different modes of play. I appreciate the volume control button, too! I can understand the complaint about coins getting stuck, but we have never had any real problems with this. They really only get jammed if a child loads too many coins in the slot at once. Our children have learned to remove the coins after inserting just a few. Bottom line: I highly recommend this toy if you are looking for a high-quality cash register, or just an exciting means of learning math concepts.
