If you haven't seen it, the premise is that Jarod is a genius who escapes from an evil corporation and uses his genius to help the downtrodden, find his family, and keep from getting caught. While the show only lasted 4 seasons, buying this set will not complete the series. There were two made-for-TV movies that came out and last word had them coming out on DVD in March (and some are still trying to get a third movie made). Anyway, this series, while not flawless, is a pretty solid show and certainly entertaining. However, at the time I'm writing this to buy all 4 seasons together ($95) is $15 more expensive than buying them individually at $20 each (totaling $80).

One of the best shows ever made, so much better than some of the shows they make these days.Just one thing I had trouble with at first was the double sided disc. How do know which side to put in first. The coloured ring side goes up first, then you flip it over for side B.

The Pretender is a blast from the past, a great buy in my opinion. So far I'm 1/2 way through season 3. Like Jarod when he escapes from the Centre the show follows a simple story formula that very pleasing to watch. Getting to see Jarod discover all the things in life that we take for granted is an up lifting experience. As the second season gets going strong and you learn more and more of all the characters pasts the stories get more complex and the writers throw you a few curve balls that are a pleasant surprise. All and all a great purchase

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the Pretender. I've seen each episode multiple times. The reason why it gets one star here? The PRICE! I got the ENTIRE SERIES from *cough-WalMart-cough* for $40. Total. Yep... that was a good day. :-)

This show was original in that the character growth was not the typical. Since he had been denied a real childhood he was constantly discovering new things that are common to all of us. It added a nice element because we got to see them with new ideas and enjoy them all over again in addition with the more serious storylines of the show.

I love this set and the price was fantastic at Amazon. I have missed this show and I love all the actors in the Pretender series.

I followed the Pretender when it was originally on television, and was thrilled to find it at a nice price for the entire set.
It arrived in great condition in the allotted time.

This review is about the box contents and not a review of the series itself.

The Pretender Seasons 1-4 DVD box allows the viewer to grasp the full series of this great show if one should buy the end movies The Pretender 2001 and Island of the Haunted as well. The DVD box contains all four seasons in four double-sided DVD discs per season, making the DVD box small enough to not waste any space on the bookshelf.

There are mainly three things that hinder the rating to become 5 stars.

First off, the DVD box is Region 1 only, while most shows and DVDs released today are region free one has to have a Region 1 compatible DVD player or if using software, change the region decoding.

Second, audio and video haven't been improved very much since the show was on TV. While the average The Pretender fan won't mind and will be just as happy to have the whole series on DVDs, the movie enthusiast may be somewhat disappointed that the show is in 4:3 aspect ratio only and normal audio (No DTS or Dolby Surround).

Last, there's no box (though Better Together offer) containing all four seasons and the end movies. If you want the whole series with an ending, order the end movies (The Prender 2001 and Island of the Haunted) as well.

This purchase was only a matter of time for me as I have always known The Pretender is the best series ever made! The acting is superb, the storylines complex and in-depth, and the scripting witty and fresh. This is an exciting time in Pretender fandom as the masses eagerly await the promised third movie or fifth series to continue this very special show [...]. I recommend this series to people from all walks of life who will all be able to enjoy and relate to its underpinning messages of the importance of family, friendship, love, and freedom. With its mystery, suspense, comedy, and romance, find out for yourself why this show did better than ER and Grey's Anatomy!

This is my alltime favourite series. I have been also seeking for the truth about my life for so long and that is why I have always identified myself with Jarod and his quest and I just love the way he always tries to help and do the right thing. There is a lot to be learned from this film.
