5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
After listening to just the first side of the first tape (a 2 tape set), I placed 3 gift orders for friends. I saved listening to the rest so I could savor it on my drive to and from work. If you like jokes, you'll really enjoy these tapes. Even oldies and "groaners" are fun when presented in the classic "Praire Home Companion" radio/stage show...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not For Kids -- Some off-color and adult jokes
I purchased this book after others had said it's great for kids. My son loved it but came told me today that he was going to stop reading it b/c there are a lot of jokes are not appropriate for children. He's 11 yrs old. Other than that, the book is good -- just remember that it's not for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Love the Annual Joke Show -- You'll Love the Tape, May 19, 2000

This tape provides hours of fun and laughs for the entire family. I've always enjoyed Prairie Home Companion's Annual Joke Show (although Garrison Keillor claims it causes the greatest loss of National Public Radio members of any other show). Now I can bring this annual treat to life whenever I need a good laugh (almost daily). It kept us roaring on a recent car trip. This was probably the first time in history that kids never asked "When are we going to get there." However, it is probably important for me to add this disclaimer: Listening to this tape in the car or while operating heavy machinery could be hazardous to your health. Amazon.com -- thanks for recommending it to me. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this radio program or who needs good laugh.

Wonderful humor -- hundreds of good old jokes, the kind folks used to tell at bars and around office water coolers . . . a great part of the folk heritage of America, and just plain funny .... well told by Garrison Keillor & guests such as Paula Poundstone, Roy Blount, etc. . . . I bought the CD version which I'd recommend, since it's a more stable medium than cassette and this is a "keeper"

5.0 out of 5 stars Belly Aching Fun, January 8, 2001

These jokes are hilarious and will keep you rolling for the length of the 2 CDs - and you *will* want to listen to them over and over again. You'll feel compelled to share the jokes with friends and co-workers - but you'll request they hear them from the source - as your joke-telling skills just won't match those of the master joke-tellers.

Nevermind the NPR Public Laughter Tapes - they are OK, but for real laughs, get the Pretty Good Jokes. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best joke book ever!!, July 11, 2003
A Kid's Review
The Pretty Good Joke Book is the best joke book I've yet come across! I especially like its variety. It has some cute classics and some funny modern jokes. It includes yo mamas, bar jokes, regional jokes, kids jokes, musical jokes, occupational jokes, gender jokes, old people jokes, a few dirty jokes for adults...and much, much more! Also, it's not like one of those joke books where once you read all the jokes you toss it aside. Nope, with TPGJB, it seems that every time I read it, I come across new jokes that I haven't read yet, and, it's always fun to chuckle at a joke I've read before. One read of this book and you're sure to be the clown/comic of your community!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jokes for Everyone!, April 21, 2000
This book is terrific! All the good jokes in ONE BOOK!

Manyof these jokes are available on the internet. The value of this bookis that everything is in one place. No clicking around the 'net or downloading required!

As a member of Toastmasters I found the book a wonderful resource for the "Joke of the Day" portion of our meetings.

So...what's the difference between brocolli and boogers? Check out this Pretty Good Joke Book to see! END

This tape is fun: rapid fire jokes that you might have even told yourself as a kid or an adult. For old or new, politically correct or politically incorrect jokes and everything inbetween, get this tape or CD and sit back and relax.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really quite funny joke book--It's, oh, pretty good, August 18, 2004

I laughed at all the pages.
There are numerous sections of "types" of jokes. There's a section of "your mama" jokes (Your mama is so dumb she bought a solar-powered flashlight.). There are knock knock jokes. There are the jokes about the Minnesota husband and wife team who really are so bad to each other they ought not be married.
It's all pretty funny. It's all fairly new. There were a couple of jokes I used at work. Most of the jokes you can tell in mixed company. There are quite a few off-color jokes; but that's what a joke does is be off-color.
I enjoyed it. It's a great book. It's a good value. Read it before your next office party so you can scmooze with the big wigs.
