Overall great - but some major snafus.

* SPOILER ALERT * Review contains references to plot points!
This show is, on the whole, very interesting and has some really good twists that keep you wanting to watch it. However, there are also some glaring missteps that, for me personally, are hard to overlook.
Season 4 was, by and large, one of the most suspenseful and action-packed in my opinion. But it's also one of the seasons that has the most obvious holes in the plot, with fascinating story lines that end abruptly without really being followed through or explained. Two examples of this:
1. The little blonde girl that is in the Marin house on Halloween and interacts with Hannah's mother. The viewer is led to believe she must be a ghost that only Ashley Marin sees for some reason. But there is NO explanation whatsoever for why she sees the girl, how the girl is connected to the plot, and there is no other reference to this event in the entire season. This is infuriatingly stupid!
2. One of the biggest twists is the whole angle with Ravenswood and the cemetary that has pictures of people who are still alive - chief of which is Caleb, Hannah's boyfriend. The episode where this was revealed was really creepy-good and interesting, but NOTHING comes of it throughout the entire season! I only found out recently that this was obviously a deliberate move to do a separate spin-off series like The Originals for The Vampire Diaries, but seriously? It's just annoying because you keep watching episode after episode waiting for an explanation that never comes!
These are just the two most obvious examples. There are multiple other inconsistencies - something things like the constantly changing hair length of characters or when you can obviously tell that a scene was shot in multiple takes and they didn't make sure that items were in the same place. Personally, I also find it a little weird that the girls seem to keep bouncing around in borderline inappropriate relationships - whether it's Aria with her on again, off again relationship with Ezra or the revolving door of guys in Hannah and Spencer's lives. It's just weird.
But what I found possibly the most irritating is the whole plot line that leads you to think Ezra is actually A...and the it turns out he's just doing research for a book? That's absolutely ridiculous.
Overall, the show is really interesting - if you can watch it without noticing or caring about the various issues, of which I've only outlined the most obvious ones to me.
