5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and easy to understand.
This book covers just about anything you'll run across with your cat and/or dog. Each entry is fully explained, and contains separate paragraphs concerning what you action(s) you can take and what your vet will do if consulted. It's a very useful reference.

1.0 out of 5 stars OK for dog-owners; glaring omissions regarding cats
There is MUCH more info here re: dogs. One glaring omission is re: diarrhea. Over-the-counter medicines for dogs are listed; none listed for cats (ones listed cannot be given to cats; this is stated in the book). This is just one example of the bias in this book towards dogs. Don't waste your money if you own a cat!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great information base, December 4, 2009

This review is from: Prevention's Symptom Solver for Dogs and Cats: From Arfs and Arthritis to Whimpers and worms, An Owner's Cure Finder (Hardcover)
Since having purchased this book, I have consulted it numerous times. Sometimes from curiousity and sometimes more urgently. Having four dogs and two cats, things happen. This book helps me to identify the more urgent from the not so urgent. There are several ways to look at things: symptoms, specific issues, etc. and presents what you can do and then what the vet will do. There are times I have found an issue to be in the book, but it took a while to figure out how to find it in the index. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be without this general overview. This has helped to identify potential causes (i.e, hair loss - there are quite a few potential causes so I can then investigate more fully via internet, my vet, etc.) In our case, the hair loss was due to a thyroid issue. The information available in the book helped me use my veterinarian to full advantage. I could rule out lesser causes before going to my vet and once there I could ask more beneficial questions.

2.0 out of 5 stars not what i was expecting, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Prevention's Symptom Solver for Dogs and Cats: From Arfs and Arthritis to Whimpers and worms, An Owner's Cure Finder (Hardcover)
i thought this book told you how to take care of your pets problems naturally, but it helps you diagnose your pets condition and
then you still have to go to a vet and get a prescription. its really
a waste of time. i thought it would be similar to their other book:
Natural Healing For Dogs And Cats by The Editors of Prevention Health Books
which is very helpful.
