4.0 out of 5 stars good source of questions for ABPM exam
Although this book was intended as a review for the USMLE step exams, it's an invaluable source of practice questions for the Preventive Medicine board exam. It's a little dated, so take note of what USPSTF recommendations have taken place in the interim period. It's a good book to use along with Jekel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well written but not the best solution for the USMLE step 2
This book will help medical students to test their knowledge on major topics of biostatistics, epidemiology, preventive medicine and public health. The explanations are of appropriate length and content. As an international medical graduate, I found the parts on the provision of health services and legal and ethical issues very useful. This review is from: Preventive Medicine and Public Health: Pretest Self-Assessment and Review (Pretest - Self-Assessment and Review Clinical Science Series) (Paperback)
This book will help medical students to test their knowledge on major topics of biostatistics, epidemiology, preventive medicine and public health. The explanations are of appropriate length and content. As an international medical graduate, I found the parts on the provision of health services and legal and ethical issues very useful. However, in my opinion, this book lacks an organized approach of each subject tested. Questions appear rather at random making it hard to perform a systematic review. In addition, I would not recommend this book for the preparation of the USMLE step 2 examination as preventive medicine is a low-yield topic in this examination and reviewing from this source is time-consuming and not that efficient. I also think most of the questions contained in this book and especially those on biostatistics do not reflect the style of the USMLE step 2 examination. There are few clinical vignettes whereas almost all questions in the USMLE step 2 examination are now of this type. In conclusion, this is a good book to test one's knowledge on biostatistics, epidemiology and preventive medicine and public health but it is not the best choice one could make while studying for the USMLE step 2 examination.
