What a delightful collection of short stories! This is the work of a strong, creative author who likes to give the reader something to think about.

Prey for Day reads like the opening chapter of a novel more than a short story, and like a proper opening chapter, it asked more questions that it answered. Eva and Danny were believable characters who showed a range of emotions. Eve especially has clear goals and principles, although these are never thrown in the reader's face. The setting is well described and adds to the characterization. I'd be interested to see more.

Black Rains had the creepy horror feel of an Alfred Hitchcock story. On the surface, it's a mother telling her child a simple tale. The horror is all subtext and innuendo, but it will have you ducking under the covers. It's brilliantly executed.

I look forward to seeing a full novel from this author. She's launched with a great collection.

Prey for Day was an interesting collection of stories. I like strong female protagonists and was drawn to Eva in the title story. It's hard to do anything fresh with vampires, but I was struck by her compassion. It's not a trait I usually think of when I think about vampire characters. I'd love to see more of her.

Black Rains made me shiver. It's so weird.

The Dreadful Dead of Dark Midnight was both a cautionary tale and one of redemption. I didn't expect it to go where it did and enjoyed the surprise.

No Dawn Again didn't do it for me. Maybe I didn't get the point, or maybe I'm just prejudiced against characters who are drunks.

All in all, it's a promising start for a new author. I look forward to new releases.

I enjoyed this collection of short stories. Each story was well written and imaginative. The Dreadful Dead of Dark Midnight is one of the most original stories I have ever read.
My favorite story in this collection is the first one, titled Prey for Day. This seemed to me like an excellent beginning to a full length novel and I really hope the author is going to finish it. Give us more!

Four brilliant urban fantasy stories, bundled together in a unique package that is perfect for a coffee break read.
Vampires and all things that go bump in the night are represented in Joss L. Riley' s macabre young adult world.
I can not wait to see what Joss L. Riley writes next. These stories just wetted my appetite for her next full length novel.
