Absolutely Incredible,
By
This review is from: Prey for Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
Gina Gerhson absolutely incredible. Do you remember the first time you heard (take your pick) Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Ramones, Patti Smith, White Stripes.......well, here it is again - that same feeling - rock and roll guts.....so it doesn't matter what the other reviewers say...this one has it and the only way you will really know is if you listen to it yourself. If you like real rock and roll, real intensity, no holds barred.....get it.The band - actually playing (versus the movie band) is Gina Gershon vocals, Gina Volpe guitar piano backup vocals, Cheri Lovedog guitar, Sara Lee bass, Samantha Maloney drums (on all songs except Studiostar). Studiostar was done by Gina Gershon, Linda Perry, and Patty Schemel. All songs were written by Cheri Lovedog (with help from Grace Chapman on Every Six Minutes and Stephen Trask on Bitter Pill).....except Studiostar, which was written by Gina Gershon and Linda Perry. The band in the movie is Gina Gershon (Jackie) vocals & guitar, Lori Petty (Faith) lead guitar, Shelley Cole (Sally) drums, and Drea de Matteo (Tracy) bass. At least this is the info on the CD linear notes and on the web movie sites. If the truth is different, it doesn't seem to be out there yet.

Outstanding, Gritty, punk type rock,
By A Customer
This review is from: Prey for Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
Gina Gershon is a natural, and much better then most female rock vocalists out there nowadays. This music is gritty, raw, and filled with strong hooks and melodies. It reminds me a bit of bands like Misfits, Clash, Donnas, Motorhead, early Motley Crue, and Divinyls. This album sure has a lot of attitude too, delivered in a very convincing manner. Production is very Motorheadish. This does not sound like 2003, more like some time between 78-83.

A great album by a non existant band,

To be honest, I didn't care much for the film "Prey For Rock & Roll". I found it depressing an inexessible. Not so for the soundtrack CD! Excellent punk/metal with obvious nods to Iggy ("stupidstar", "the ugly", "my favorite sin"), Patti Smith ("pretty pretty", "every 6 minutes"), Joan Jett ("Ms. Tweek"), Courtney Love ("4 Into 3") and X ("punk rock girl", "post nuclear celebration"). Best song: the title track. Interesting that one of the best punk albums of this decade is from a band that doesn't even exist! Here's hoping Gina Gersion continues on this track and gives us another CD.
Other good soundtracks to not-so-good punk movies: "Hard Core Logo", "Josie N the Pussycats" and, of course, "Great Rock & Roll Swindle". And "Clam Dandy" fans should buy CDs by The Gits- who, no doubt were the inspiration for this movie.

Gina can sing,

What a great album! Gina has a great voice and presence on this album, and she could definitely have a second career making music. The tracks are all great. My favorite is "Pretty Pretty," track #7. It's a tight track and should have received radio play. Get this album, tell your friends about it...it's great.

Gina Gershon is a Fabulous Punk,

Rather than downloading all these songs from KaZaA or some other free mp3 program, I'd recommend you purchase this CD for three reasons - 1) Gina Gershon is on the cover and she's aesthetlically pleasing 2) The music's actually pretty good and if you liked the movie it'll cause minor nostalgia and 3) This is a CD you want people to see you have in your soundtrack collection :o)The music is all right - definately listen-worthy. I think some if it (if not all) was made specifically for this film. The tracks range slightly - otherwise they're all pretty much the same sort of stuff. (Amazon provides you with samples) Get the soundtrack, see the movie - it's all good <3

OUTSTANDING,

Gina does an outstanding job with this soundtrack. Her voice is phenomenal and will definitely get you going. She nails serious issues and perfectly conveys the tragedies and difficulties of everyday life. The sound of Gina delivering these lyrics will stir the depths of your soul, spark passions you did not know were there, and still soothe your spirit. Buy the cd.

Great Punk Album-Gina Rocks!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Prey for Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
If you like punk rock at all you will love this album. Especially if you like girlie punk. Gina Gershon's voice & attitude sounds incredibly appropriate for all of the songs she sings on this album. You would think Gina was born to be a rocker. The whole album, from the first song to the last, rocks and is filled with punk rock attitude.

Joan Jett, Eat Your Heart Out!,
By SimpsonsFan99 (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews

Though Prey For Rock & Roll was a good movie, the soundtrack was even better. Gina Gershon delivered the performance of her life with memorable tracks such as "Pretty Pretty" (my favorite) as well as "Ms. Tweak" and "Punk Rock Girl". This should have been billed as a Gina Gershon solo album rather than as a movie soundtrack, because she was the star performer. I was glad iTunes acknowledged that when I re-acquired this album via download. I even managed to obtain four bonus tracks--"Hey Jesus", "Trip", "Hard Times" and "Give Me"--though they were sold separately. To date, Gina Gershon has only made one subsequent album--"In Search Of Cleo", which is also available on iTunes. I wish Gina would do more work, especially since Joan Jett's career seems to have reached its sunset.

OK I'm not gonna sit here and lie about Gina having a great voice, but damned if it doesn't work well with the music. Growing up on punk and metal there's been several cases where the sum of the parts is better than the individual contributions and I believe that's the case here. These songs are so gritty, the voice and the music accompany each other well. Great soundtrack to a powerful movie. I would recommend watching the movie first, the music sets the tone and you'll probably enjoy it more that way. Some really powerful songs here like The Ugly, Every 6 Minutes.
