2.0 out of 5 stars too much
The plot is interesting but there's just too much going on. First you have a domestic drama, then a mystery, then a soap opera and then back to a syrupy romance. I found it to be a bit much for one small book.

This book was so good that I started reading it at 6:30, after cooking dinner, and didn't put it down until I read the last line. The 10 pm news was coming on when I finished. I didn't even notice that the main characters hadn't been described. I know so many people like all of the characters, in the book. I was able to place a face with each character. As my husband was driving us through the 5:00 pm traffic, I read the Seduction chapter. Five minutes later, I just had to re-read the chapter aloud to him. We had to laugh because our home town, Little Rock, has the same functions, with all the same characters. The owner of the Hearne's Fine Art Gallery told me, as she recommended the book, that it was a page turner. Palfrey's characters were very realistic. I felt Vivian's pain when Walter brought the baby home. I felt her growing love for Marc. I felt like I was at the festival with them. When Denise LaSalle started singing, I felt Vivian's release. I could see her releasing herself and letting her hair down. The one and only time I felt sorry for Walter was when he had to turn and look at Bobby, after watching the video. I felt that it was the only time that he forgot about all that was at stake and felt sorry for what he had done to Porsche. Even at the hospital, he felt ashamed, not for what he had done to Vivian and everyone else, but how he had allowed everything to get out of control. This is certainly a book worth reading again. Just a note to the author, Vivian is too smart of a woman to, even for a moment, be BS'd by Walter's flowers. Cora's statement about the BS should never had to be spoken. Vivian had resigned herslf long before, to see right through him. Good Job!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Page turner - enjoyed it to the last page!, February 18, 2000

First book read by this author and I was not disappointed. The book caught my interest in the first few pages. Quick and fast reading - couldn't put it down & finished it in a day. The book keeps you in suspense until the end as you cannot predict the outcome - will Vivian leave Walter for good or will she go back to him & what's going to happen to the baby. Look forward to other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good and interesting reading, December 17, 1999
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
I really enjoy the work of this new and upcoming author. This author definetly needs more exposure. this is the second book I read by Ms Palfrey and it was indeed a page turner. I like the fact that she did not give a description of the main characters, you had to make up your own. My characterization of Walter changed as I read and whether I was liking this character or not. I must say I enjoyed the romance, the mystery, the family scenes in Georgia, the concerts at the camp ground. Women in the prime of their lives deserves some romance and excitement also. So, kudos to Vivian! There is nothing I can say that I disliked. I would recommend this book to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Explosive and Passionate Novel, May 4, 2002
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
Vivian Carlson is a 40 year old woman who wants a baby more than anything else. She and her husband Walter tried for years and they were unsuccessful.

Walter is a handsome man who is full of passion for life. He is a good provider. However, Walter is no angel. He is an egoistical politician who had a number of affairs throughout their marriage. Vivian tries to ignore the affairs. Instead, she focuses on improving her life by attending law school.

Walter drops a bombshell that will change Vivian's life forever. He brings home his baby who is the result of one of his affairs. Vivian is shocked and devastated. She wants to have nothing to with Walter or the baby.

To Vivian's shock, Walter announces at a press conference that he and Vivian adopted the baby. Vivian wants to tell the truth that Walter is a liar. However, Vivian can't, because Walter is seeking reelection.

Walter is paranoid that an English speaking babysitter will leak to press the truth about the scandal. As a result, Vivian is forced to take care of the baby. To Vivian's surprise, she begins to bond with the baby whom she names Passion.

Marc Kline who is a local college professor tracks Vivian down to find out more about the adoption. Vivian tries to avoid him. However, he is persistent.

Marc opens up feelings in Vivian. She feels revitalized. They embark on a romance and Vivian is faced with her own question about the Price of Passion.

I would highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once u start reading, u wont be able to stop!, June 3, 2001
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
The Price of Passion is a true page-turner in every sense of the word. I found myself reading at all hours of the night and telling all of my friends to read this book! I loved the way the plot unfolded and the characters are well-developed. I gave POP to my mother to read and she couldn't put it down either.

What I like best about POP is how this precious baby takes a hold of the lead character's heart and doesn't let go. POP is a true testament to the power of love. The story keeps you guessing what is going to happen next and trying to figure out the mystery as you go along.

I have to admit, when I first saw the other cover I was thinking the story was strictly political. It isn't but there are alot of political elements that come into play. What I also love about The Price of Passion is how it takes place right here in Austin, TX. I could truly visualize the scenes because I know all the places Evelyn wrote about. That made POP an extra treat. Most stories take place in towns you know nothing about. Austinites have a treat in store with this one. I also enjoyed the RV traveling with some "down home blues" thrown in too! :o)

Evelyn, you are a wonderful writer. Congratulations on your success and thanks for always being so positive & helpful when it comes to my writing quest. Clarissa.

5.0 out of 5 stars One book you will not put down!, February 1, 2001
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
This is my first read by this author. I was interested in reading Dangerous Dilemnas; however, it was on back order. I was thoroughly surprised by this author's writing style. She has a way of pulling you into the characters. This book is definitely a one day read. You will not be able to put this book down once you pick it up. I fell in love with Vivian because I could understand her decisions. I feel most women would walk away and leave a small baby that is conceived in adultry, however, Vivian had a special love, one that was able to look past her husband's infidelities and see that the child was innocent and needed her love. I think I would have done the same thing, although it would have been hard. I fell in love with Marc and wished that I could clone him for some of my single friends. Marc is the man most women dream of. He had a patient unconditional love for Vivian.I enjoyed this book so much that I ordered her first book. This is our book club's monthly reading and I know that we will have a lively discussion about this one. Keep up the good work! I love forward to many more books.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, December 12, 1999
By
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
I stumbled across this book on the net and ordered it. I must tell you that it has been one of the best books I've read this year. Before searching the net, I had never heard of Ms. Palfrey before, but I finished her book in one sitting. After that, I quickly ordered her other two, (Dangerous Delimas, Three Perfect Men). I have since reccomended her titles to everyone I could. I look forward to her next titles. It made me feel good reading each and every title, she gave you suspence, revenge, and love all wrapped up in each book. Cheers to you. Keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath-taking and tantilizing, July 25, 1999
This review is from: The Price of Passion (Paperback)
This was the first book that I have read by Evelyn Palfrey, and I must say that I am in the process of ordering her other two books. Vivian was a strong woman and although no descriptions were given in the book none had to be about her, Marc, or any of the other characters. The story that the author wrote is something that happens in everyday life. She added a twinge that made me not to want to put the book down. I look forward to reading Palfrey's other two books, Three Perfect Men and Dangerous Dilemmas, as well as any future books.
