4.0 out of 5 stars A fun game with room for improvement, September 11, 2008

I've been watching The Price Is Right for over 25 years now, and was pleasantly surprised when I found out there was finally going to be a video game adaptation coming out. This game does not disappoint at all, however there are a few things I think could be improved upon.

As other reviews have stated, this game is extremely easy to play and fun for almost everyone. For years I'd sit there and rip apart dumb bidders on the show. Well now I'M the dumb bidder. It's hilarious how I really don't know how much anything costs. The realism of contestant's row is great. I bid $290 on something, and the old lady character next to me went and bid $291 and won just like the show! You're bidding on REAL name brand items. An actual video from a Price Is Right episode plays and you hear the description pretty much as it aired on the show. It's really great. My only complaint here is that the picture for this is pretty small and sometimes you can't really make out what the item looks like.

The pricing games that I've played so far have been a blast. One glitch I noticed on Cliffhangers though, the item I was guessing the price on was Citrical, however the text description of it said it was Ragu spaghetti sauce. Another very minor gripe I have with the pricing games so far is that many times the prize is just some amount of cash, whereas on the actual show, the prize is usually a car or furniture or something else. Does this make the game less fun? Absolutely not. Also, sometimes the descriptions are a little vague, and you can't form a good guess on the price. One example is that they showed a package of Chips Ahoy cookies but didn't say the size of the package. I guessed $2.50 but it turned out to be a snack size and the retail price was 50 cents. Unlike the show, you can't ask questions about the items to get a better description. I ended up losing that game because of it. Once again, not the end of the world.

The classic TPIR moments that you can unlock by winning these games are awesome, however, some of them are sponsored! That's right, I had to sit through a commercial for the 2009 Toyota Corolla before watching a highlight! So far over several games not one pricing game or item has repeated.

As far as graphics go, the TPIR video is great, the game graphics are pretty lame. The audience consists of about four people wearing four different colored shirts, just repeated over and over. You only have a choice of about eight different characters. Their animations and expressions are very limited and cheezy, even for the Wii.

The sound is great. You get it all here, it's the same music and sounds that have been used since the old days. My all time favorite, the loser horn is used quite often, much to my delight.

I have a feeling this is going to be quite a successful Wii title without much fanfare. For $39.99, pardon the pun, the price is right and the game is well worth it. I'd love to see a sequel to this, since there are still a ton of pricing games that they can use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great party game, family friendly, and fun for all ages!, September 11, 2008

If you're looking for a game that will get your party going, or something just to have fun with, then The Price is Right for the Wii may be just what you're looking for. Being the game show enthusiast that I am, I was delighted to hear that this timeless classic was finally making its video game debut; and it does not disappoint!

While it is not aimed at hard-core gamers, it certainly does its job with providing endless hours of fun. I feel it did a very good job recreating the feel of the actual game show. While I was a bit disappointed with the absence of both Bob Barker and Drew Carey, Rich Fields is a great, and sometimes even exciting, host. Up to four players can participate at a time, or you can just wing it solo. Either way, you're guaranteed to have a good time. :)

Controls are very user friendly, making it easy for anyone of any age to play, even if they've never picked up a video game in their life. The graphics are great, and I couldn't keep myself from laughing at some of the ways the on-screen players react; very cute.

So, if you're looking for some fun for everyone, The Price is Right for the Wii is the way to go. Trust me; you will not be disappointed! :)

I have only seen 4 different showcases and I've played probably about 10-12 times for the most part to just see if the game ever changed. So there is never a challenge to guess the prices. Maybe it's just my copy that is defective, but if not then much more thought should have gone into this game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game for Family Fun, December 23, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
So I read many of the reviews and had no idea whether I was going to enjoy this game or not. I finally decided to purchase it and after all of that, it's a pretty good game.

Yes, the game could have been made better. The small videos of the prizes you are bidding on are rather small, but I can still see them and the announcer tells you what they are so it wasn't that bad for me. There are other little things that could have been done better, but overall, I thought it was done well. The reason I didn't give it five stars is because even though it is a 4 player game, you all have to share one remote. I don't quite understand that.

But... the game was fun. I played it with my wife and my two boys, eight and five (my five year old spun the wheel for me). We all had a fun time and have played it at least five times in the first 24 hours. My 8 year old woke up this morning and was ready to play again. If I didn't have to go to work early, I probably would have played again as well.

So all in all, it was a good game and one that will probably be fun for our whole family. It could have been done better, but I could say that about plenty of other games too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easily fixable flaws, January 4, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
Me and the wife haven't gotten bored with this game so far in the week that we've had it. Its pretty fun, but there are some minor issues that would make this game so much better if they spent a little more time with it.

I don't understand why on contestant's row or in the final showcase they have such little videos to show the products to bid on. Its hard to get a good feel of what kind of car or how much detail was put into the lamp you're bidding on.

The graphics could use some work because their movements are pretty laughable, and god forbid you want your contestant to be a african-american male because it doesn't come with one.

My major complaint is with the showcase showdown. It took about 10 tries on that wheel before I ever made it to the final showcase. Spin .75 or .85? They'll get .90 cents. Spin a dollar on your turn? They'll beat you in a spinoff. Impossible odds with the wheel, expect quite a few losses before you get through.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but has some limitations, January 1, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
This game is fun but not the best. My biggest complaint is that you have to share one remote when playing with multiple players. That does take some fun out of the game. Also I have only played 5 games now and I am already seeing repeat items. If you keep your expectations low you will be satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great adaptation of the game show for Wii, September 18, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
If you really love the game show and loved to shout out the answers and play along, then you'll love the adaptation of Price is Right into the game.

It doesn't follow the way the game show is played exact, only to a point. You won't stay in contestants row until you bid correctly, and you won't have to watch the computer play, only when they are spinning the wheel. This review is for single player game play. I wanted to give folks an insight to HOW the game is played.

It's three strikes you're out, and the game ends once you get 3 strikes. You first go to contestants row to bid. Your item shows as a classic video clip in a small box on screen.

Win or lose, you get to advance to a pricing game. If you lose in contestant row, that's one strike. The pricing games are very fun to play. If you lose one of those, you get a strike, and also a strike if you aren't the closest to $1 on the wheel. So far I've gotten to play Plinko, Punch a Bunch, and Cliffhanger to name a few. Item descriptions for the pricing games show as classic video clips as well. Loading time wasn't bad, at all. The game goes very smoothly.

It's back to contestants row, after the first pricing game. Then to spinning the wheel, then to another pricing game, then to the showcase wheel. I'm assuming after that you get to the Showcase Showdown. I haven't gotten to that far yet. Some of the games can be tough, like 3 Strikes. And those that are more luck then skill, like spinning the wheel. Guessing the prices of items has been the toughest challenge so far. They are quite accurate! Items you can "win" are up to date, such as an 09 Toyota Corolla.

You can also choose to play classic mode. You stay in contestants row, and get 6 chances to advance to a pricing game. You play a pricing game, then off to spin the wheel, then on to the showcase showdown.

True fans will appreciate the likeness of the games, the sounds, and the music. Rich Fields announces everything in the show. You only get a handful of contestants to pick from. And you can only use one Wiimote among up to 4 players and that's kinda annoying.

Once you have completed all the pricing games, you can play those individually as mini-games. You can also unlock some additional video clips.

The graphics are great!! I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best looking games I have played. But for this type of game, it was all about game play. And it certainly met, and exceeded my expectations.

Tons of fun if you are playing alone, and it would be a lot of fun with friends. I give it a 9 out of 10! Minus a point due to having to share a Wii Mote and for not incorporating Bob Barker. It's a must have!

2.0 out of 5 stars weak, May 22, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
I grew up watching this show and was hoping for a good video game experience, however, I was bored throughout the entire gameplay. From what I could tell, it is only one player. The graphics remind me of something that came out ten years ago.

I have played this once and never put it back in.

Rent this, or buy it used.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like the show, you should like the game., September 11, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (Video Game)
After all those times watching the show and yelling at the tv because of bad bids, we all finally get the chance to do it ourselves. I've had the chance to play this game a handful of times so far for the wii, and thought it was a nice casual wii offering.

Presentation: Interface is very simple with not many options, you have two ways to play single player (3 strikes mode, or classic as you see it on tv) And only one way with friends/family. (this mode is played a bit differently than tv, but allows everyone to be more interactive more often). One thing they could have done is either allow you to enter your mii, or have more characters, 8 in total is very sparse. Something else I really enjoyed was how they use actual video clips from the show, i don't know how long it'll take until you get repeats, but for now, its a nice idea, and nicely done, and i've found the bid for any particular item seems similar to what it'd actually be on tv.

Graphics: Good, as mentioned, the videos work out very well, and the animations, while sometimes out of sink with the proper reaction, are good for the most part.

Sound: Rich Fields does a a great job as annoucer of the game, and the inclusion of the original theme music plus traditional music cues is nice.

Gameplay: the wii controls seem to be decent. (nothing amazing however, but good enough) placing your bid can be done quickly, so thats convenient. The games are all fun to play, i've gone through a handful so far (i think i counted 19 games in total, so theres no shortage).

Cons: only things really are that the load times are a bit longer than desired. It would have been nice if it could have been a bit faster between events. And since you're routed directly to the next event, it can at times feel slightly claustrophobic.

as per my title, if you like the show and have longed for a gaming counterpart, i'm sure you'll enjoy this game.
