4.0 out of 5 stars The Price Is Right PC Game
Fun game if you like the show. There is however 2 down falls of this game, 1 - you must have the DVD in your drive when you want to play it and 2 - the prizes you bid on repete often and its hard not to memorize the prices, which makes the game less fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Computers, Come On Down?!?, September 29, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
Over the years, we've seen classic game shows that have delivered as computer games. These past years, the classic standouts like Jeopardy!, Wheel Of Fortune, and Family Feud have continued to deliver not just to hard core fans, but anyone who is interested in nostalgia. However, we've started to see new game shows finally make it to the P.C. including Deal Or No Deal, and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? But, with all the different game shows, The Price Is Right has definitely been one of the most difficult to deliver as a video game. The longtime show which has dominated for over 35 years on CBS with Bob Barker and recently with Drew Carey, has continued to deliver to fans all over, but has been absent from delivering as a home game so many times. Now, a new video game edition of The Price Is Right is available for the computer for the first time in over 20 years, since the Commodore 64 days. However, does it really allow gamers to say Come On Down!, or just down in out?

The Price Is Right for the P.C. brings the classic game show to computers everywhere. The long-running game shows show well in polish and graphics by bringing the classic studio and game design during the Bob Barker era well, and showcases a distinctive style top to bottom. The game includes a dozen games to the home computer including long-running favorites like Plinko, Cliff Hangers, Shell Game and It's In The Bag. While the graphics look great, and the sound brings back the classic theme song well, there are a few faults to the game that miss the mark well. While the game looks great, there are a few problems that miss the mark. First of all, there is a lack of pricing games on the video game. While there are the popular games here, with over 70 games on the show, you don't have other great games like Grand Game, Barker's Bargain Bar, Pathfinder, and recent games like Stack The Deck and More Or Less in the rotation. Not only that, but in the game you don't have Bob Barker or Drew Carey deliver the work of the host. Instead, you have Price's announcer Rich Fields takeover the position on the game. While Rich works well, but for a game that wasn't a computer game for longtime fans since the 80's, there just should've been more to get the gamers interested.

All in all, The Price Is Right isn't a bad video game for the P.C. and fairs adequately for those who haven't seen the great CBS game show. But, I was just hoping that there could've been a whole lot more to makeup as a video game after a long absence from the market. But, for the price itself, it isn't completely right, but a decent try.

Graphics: B

Sound: B+

Gameplay: C+

Fun & Enjoyment: C for solo player; C+ for multiplayer

Overall: C+

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good parts, but not a complete game experience, January 25, 2009
By
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
After playing TPIR pc game for a few times, I can say there are some good positives to the game, but also some missing elements to the game. First, the graphics are pretty decent. The animations are smooth especially with The Big Wheel and Plinko. Also, the game replicates the sound and feel of the real TPIR. Some of the missing elements has to include the pricing games. They only included around 12 pricing games from TPIR. So gameplay can get repetitive really fast. Also the set is from Barker season 34 or so. Definitely out of date compared to the Drew Carey version with updated doors and music. Also to enter bids in, it is really tedious. Instead of just typing the price, you have to manually change the digit of each number to your exact bid. Also I sometimes get repeating item up for bids and prices to win already playing my 5th game.

Overall, there are some bright spots in this game, but also key elements missing. My suggestion would be to go to bigjonpcgames dot com. There is a free version of the game that includes all 70+ pricing games, plus some retired games. A really good free game that I would say is much better than this version.

3.0 out of 5 stars One Long Commercial, January 31, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
Although the Price is Right tries to stick to the format of the TV show, after awhile I realized it was one long product placement after another. They focus on brand name products and it gets pretty boring having to listen to the announcer drone on endlessly about each and every item offered on the show. One GIANT infomercial. They play some of the most popular games like Plinko and Hole in One, which are fun. The spin-off is authentic. But during the spin-off, whoever designer the animatons of the computer contestants needed to improve the quality. The contestants keep scratching themselves like they are infested with bugs! Very annoying. BUT, the game basics are all here and if you like watching TPIR on TV, you might like to buy this game for some not too challenging entertainment

This game is great fun. It is a cheap game but is well made for the core functions. It was made before Windows 7 existed, but is fully compatible with Windows 7 32 or 64 bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game despite its shortcomings, July 2, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
I've had this game for over a year now. I've played all 16 games on it at least once and I've unlocked about half of them to achieve a goal and see a "classic" clip featuring Bob Barker. That's one of the cool things about the game in my opinion. The "three strikes" mode lets you play continuously. Losing the showcase doesn't count as a strike, if I remember correctly. I would like to address three common complaints from other reviewers:

No Bob Barker or Drew Carey - my guess would be that they might command a high fee for their services - especially Barker (but rightfully so). Game companies want to keep production costs at a minimum, they want to make profits as soon as possible. I feel that announcer Rich Fields does a credible job as the emcee. Only having Rod Roddy or Johnny Olson would have been better, and they've both passed on.

There's only 16 games - there's only so much memory that each game can hold. More games would have been nice, but it might have slowed down screen changes due to memory overload and driven up the price of the game.

You have to scroll up and down to enter each number - yeah, for a PS or a Xbox game, it's understandable, but for a PC game, there should be a way to just type in your bids.

Some of the games have been altered, which will probably upset some people more. Hole in One and It's in the Bag have only four products. Other games include:

Plinko
Cliff Hangers
Punch-a-Bunch (Punch board)
Flip Flop
3 Strikes
Shell Game
Race Game
Money Game
Range Game

The 2010 edition features all the games here plus 14 more, for a total of 30 games. But from what I understand, there's no multiplayer version on that. This version DOES have multiplayer. Overall, a good job done and a nice price of $20. You need to have the disc in your PC each time to play it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What took them so long to make a videogame?, October 18, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
I've been a Price is Right fan since my childhood. The unlockable videos show you unforgetable moments of the gameshow. However, this videogame is missing some of the old classics. It's missing: Safe Crackers, Check Game, Squeeze Play, Clock game, Barker's bargain bar, Golden road, and many more.

1.0 out of 5 stars this game is bullocks, September 20, 2008

This review is from: The Price is Right (DVD-ROM)
Its absolutely horrid. The people are rendereed in cg, poorly compressed video of the products, and you can't even spin the wheel hard or soft, you just click on it to spin it willy-nilly. There isn't even a host, just an announcer. For the love of god, don't buy this game for you or any other living thing you care about. How are we supposed to control the pet population if they don't tell us to spay or neuter them?

I am an avid Price is Right fan. I watch it every day so when this new game came on the market I purchased it. While I enjoy playing the game I find that the graphics could have been much better. Other games I have are much better in this department.

I was really worried that it was going to takes two weeks after I read their shipment policy. I was really amazed when I received the games in 4 Days and they came from Canada.
