5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling ride., August 24, 2009
By
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
This is a dynamite thriller--packed with colorful, well-rounded characters, vivid locales, a plot that sinks its teeth in and doesn't let go until the last page. Shelby is one of the most compelling female characters I've encountered in a long time, and her relationship with Hank, would-be assassin turned lover, is richly and poignantly developed. Greer is one fine writer; I can't wait to find his next novel in the bookstore!

5.0 out of 5 stars High-tension thriller keeps the pages turning, June 2, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
Shelby's sudden thrust into the world of double crosses and secret agencies is a shock for the young Haitian professor who mainly wants to shield her little sister from the political turmoil of their native country.

She has no idea how to protect Carmen when she can barely stay one step ahead of men who are clearly trying to kill her.

Luckily, Hank, the first assassin to find her, is a half-hearted killer, easily convinced to take only the target and escort the little girl to a safe haven.

Vlad, however, is a criminal mind like nothing I've seen since Silence of the Lambs. Readers will need to brace themselves for his pages, and will fear both Hank and Shelby's safety as he crisscrosses the country in search of them, trying to cash in on the hit.

Greer's debut thriller is nothing short of an adrenaline-rushed ride through the minds of two very dissimilar men in the same profession, and the girl they both are after for completely different reasons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Desperate Times Make For Desperate Means, August 16, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
Gaylon Greer's heroine, Shelby Le Cervoisier, doesn't set out to be a hitman. It just works out that way. In his thrilling page turner, Greer captures the tenacity of a woman in dire circumstances. Everything is at stake--her life, her sister's safety. When Shelby is forced with a moral dilemna, kill or die, Shelby finds herself linked with an enigma, an honorable contract killer named Hank. The complex and conflicting emotions of Shelby and Hank, not to mention the insider view into contract killing, make for one wild ride.
From the minute Shelby exiles in Florida to the surprising ending, the reader, teeth-clenched and eyes fixed to the page, joins Shelby on her tortuous path to freedom.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Price of Sanctuary" is Gaylon Greer's debut thriller and all I can say is wow!, July 20, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
"The Price of Sanctuary" is Gaylon Greer's debut thriller and all I can say is wow! It's a first-rate page-turner with a strong female protagonist and a surprise ending. I was torn between my desire to get to the end and my hope that the story would keep going. It's got everything from a hit man who falls in love with his target to a sadistic psychopath bent on killing them both. An outstanding first novel. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Price of Sanctuary, July 5, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
Gaylon Greer is a master of plot and suspense, and has done a great job in this book of introducing compelling characters caught up in fascinating (and dangerous) webs. He can build an action scene as well as the best Hollywood film writer, and his love scenes are masterful, to say the least. If you want to read a breathtaking story about people you'll wind up caring for, pick up The Price of Sanctuary.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Price of Santuary, June 28, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
The pace of this novel keeps you engaged with a mix of characters who influence the pace of the novel. You are caught between wanting to finish the novel and not wanting it to end. This book is clearly a romance thriller for it has all of the elements of intrigue, mystery and discovery which keeps the reader engaged hoping for a romantic relationship between the two main characters. I certainly hope there is a sequel and not long in the making. Highly recommended as a romance thriller for its quick action and character development.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Raw & Human Story, June 21, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
Greer's story blasts me out of my comfort zone into a world in which I wonder what I would do in Shelby's place. This young idealist struggles with survival, not just her own but also that of her little sister. Vlad is a monster who takes sadistic pleasure in his job, and I found Hank to be an unconventional hit man (not that I've known that many hit men) for reasons I won't give away here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy good!, June 11, 2009
This review is from: The Price of Sanctuary (Hardcover)
This is not the kind of book I normally read but once I started it I couldn't put it down. I got completely caught up in Shelby's precarious existence and the insanely evil hit-man who pursued her. Don't want to give the story away because it is all about the suspense of not knowing what comes next. The book is unique in so many aspects and you won't want to set it down until you finish so start early in the day!
