4.0 out of 5 stars This Book's Got It All!
Okay, I confess that I am completely and hopelessly now addicted to chick-lit. I just love, love, LOVE it! Since I fully intend to read much more of it in the future, I'm definitely going to have to be on the lookout for new authors and good recommendations for existing releases that are out there. As for this author....I've read some of her other books in the past, and...

I liked this, especially this look at gemology and cable TV. I don't mind Christian fiction if its not preachy.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Book's Got It All!, September 1, 2009
This review is from: Priced to Move (Shop-Til-U-Drop, Book 1) (Paperback)
Okay, I confess that I am completely and hopelessly now addicted to chick-lit. I just love, love, LOVE it! Since I fully intend to read much more of it in the future, I'm definitely going to have to be on the lookout for new authors and good recommendations for existing releases that are out there. As for this author....I've read some of her other books in the past, and really enjoyed them, but I had no idea that she had branched out into chick-lit. Thank goodness, she's written a whole series--not just one book--so I can get a good fill of chick-lit from an author that is already an A+ in my book. :o)

This book has several things that I just love. First of all, Andie works with diamonds and gemstones all the time. Seriously, is there any other job out there greater than that for a girl?!?! Then, on top of that, she's been offered an incredible opportunity in Louisville (of all places) to work for the Shop-Til-U-Drop (S.T.U.D.) Network as their jewelry host. So, she gets to be around all this jewelry AND be on tv...just too cool, in my opinion. And, just to keep it even more interesting, there's a little mystery thrown in there and what seems like might be a developing romance. Since there's 2 other books in the series, I expect that possible romance to play out furthur a little later on. Oh, and let me not forget to mention that this book is set in the south. Andie's travels do take her to a couple of other places around the world, but the fact that home for her is now in Kentucky puts a whole new spin on things.

I also got a kick out of the supporting characters. Aunt Weeby, Andie's aunt, is hilarious! She is a southern gal to the core, and has an opinion on practically everything. Her opinion doesn't come off as know-it-all, but rather "I know just a tidbit about what you're talking about, and I'm gonna put it my two cents." Then, there's Miss Mona, the owner of the S.T.U.D. Network. She's a no-nonsense person, but sweet as she can be. Finally, there's Max...Andie's tv cohost, and stud extraordinaire. He also happens to be the first male hired to work at the S.T.U.D. Network...go figure. :o) The on-screen scenes between Andie and Max had me laughing out loud because Max is such a dunce about jewelry! That flusters Andie to no end, but everyone else just eats it up!

With all that said, I absolutely cannot wait to finish out this series! It also makes me want to gather up everything ever written by Ginny Aiken and just gobble it up (sorry now...we say stuff like that in the south).

4.0 out of 5 stars A great start for this awesome series!, July 29, 2009
This review is from: Priced to Move (Shop-Til-U-Drop, Book 1) (Paperback)
Andrea "Andie" Adams is a master gemologist, and proud of it. She works in the high-stress diamond district in New York, and has three ulcers to prove it. Thinking a lower stress situation might be better, she jumps at the chance to quit her job and move back to Kentucky when her aunt breaks a leg and needs some assistance.

Not long after Andie arrives in Kentucky, she finds that Aunt "Weeby" and her best friend Mona are already scheming on Andie's behalf. Needing a job anyway, she decides to go along with their crazy idea to be the jewelry and gemstone host for Mona's TV Shopping network. Things go fine until Andie is introduced to her gorgeous co-host, Max, five minutes before her first show. Co-host? Andie was supposed to be the only host for the show!

It quickly becomes apparent that Max knows absolutely nothing about jewelry or gemstones, and he seems determined to rub Andie the wrong way by displaying that fact several times during each show. Things escalate from there...murder...a trip to an exotic poverty stricken country...missing rubies...flying bullets.... these might not be the typical ingredients for a chic-lit, but it works! And through it all, Mr. Magnificent (as Andie secretly calls him) Max continues to display his lack of gemstone knowledge.

My opinion: This was a really enjoyable Christian Chick-Lit read. Andrea "Andie" is a pretty fun character whose sarcastic mouth often gets the better of her. Max's lack of gemstone knowledge is often humorous and fun, but I felt that Andie was really too hard on him. He is not a "know-nothing jock" (as Andie puts it) -- he's not unintelligent in the least -- he just doesn't have a bunch of gemstone degrees from different colleges like Andie does. But this does make for some humorous shows on the tv shopping network!

I definitely recommend the whole Shop-Til-U-Drop series. If you liked this one, make sure to also read A Steal of a Deal (Book 2) and A Cut Above (Book 3), as the series just gets better with each book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth time to read it, January 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was just plain silliness in my opinion. Wanted to like it but just couldn't. The plot was weak, the dialogue was simplistic and excessive and the main character seemed arrogant. If felt like she was smacking the reader in the face with her knowledge of fashion, and it was as if the author was quoting directly from a textbook when she described the gems. After struggling to stay in the book for about the first hundred pages, I had to just give up and turn to the back to find out who did it so the book could be deleted. I simply couldn't take any more of it and didn't want this to take up any unnecessary space on my kindle. Free was the right price for this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just can't get into the story, January 19, 2012

It's just uninteresting for me. Several pages into it, and still nothing has happened. It feels like a wannabe-chicklit, trying to be funny and witty but, at least for me, falling flat.

This book was very entertaining. I love how much of a smart allic the main character was, made me feel like I am around my friends! I loved how it started with a girl finding herself again and going back to her roots and then BAM it went into a murder mystery. Great!!

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick read that's fun, October 30, 2007
By
This review is from: Priced to Move (Shop-Til-U-Drop, Book 1) (Paperback)
Priced to Move is a G-rated Chick Lit, which typically means it leans more heavily on dialogue than plot to carry the story. Also woven in are a sprinkling of humor and a dab of cozy mystery for good measure.

The heroine, Andie Adams, is a highly skilled and respected gemologist who is burnt out with the stringent demands of her New York City job and subsequent lack of a personal life. Nursing three ulcers, her reward for such stress-filled living, she jumps at the chance to quit her job and move to Kentucky to care for her quirky, but sweet, ailing aunt.

Andie is looking forward to the slower-paced life of the small town, but instead she must deal with a new job selling gemstones on an all-women cable shopping network called, S.T.U.D.; a murder, in which she is the prime suspect; a mysterious and annoying gift, named Rio; international intrigue; missing Myanmar rubies; and a pain-in-the-gut, hunky jock co-host.

Priced to Move has Andie spouting so much interesting gemology information that you may be tempted to keep the book as a reference guide and go hunting for your own rare, but oh-so-divine bauble.

I love high-speed mystery stories, unfortunately I found myself skimming over paragraphs of seemly idle chitchat, which included some difficult-to-decipher Southern lingo, searching for this story's plotline. However, the ending supplied a surprising villain, as well as tied up most of the loose ends in a satisfactory manner.

Armchair Interviews says: The heroine knows her gems.

4.0 out of 5 stars None, December 6, 2011
Well...he book itself was pretty good but I wasnt aware that this was going to be one of those "Christian novels." I was quite offended that she made the comment about Buddhism being nonsense since they dont believe in Jesus and the Bible. I dont intend on buying any other books by this author.
