the first 50 listens will bring one word to mind--TERRIBLE..,

....but after that, you're damned if anything but in love with this album. I considered myself a die-hard fan when I bought "Prick." The first time I listened to it all I could think was "What the F? I spent 15 bucks on THIS?" After only a few days, even the tracks that fell into the category of music--mind you, GOOD music (RICKETS, CHALK PEOPLE, LARRY), couldn't save this album from the garbage bin. Something that should help with understanding this album is that it's like M were trying to put on a CD what might inspire their lyrics or music. The whole thing is like a person walked around Seattle with a running tape recorder in his pocket: HOW ABOUT - barely music; just a tape of an evangelist preaching about how he was "saved" from a life of sin by the Bible, which halfway through changes to an interview with a Southerner who had the fortune of seeing Elvis Presley (now that I write this, I wonder if M were trying to form some connection between the two scenarios), with a few riffs here & there. 3/5 The reason I gave this CD 5 stars is because it's a very ballsy effort. Only the extremely open-minded of M fans will give this CD a chance. Almost every track (except for "PURE DIGITAL SILENCE," which is just that) has something remotely related to music - mostly buried in the background, but thats what makes those tracks kinda fun & catchy. You've been warned.

im not all that familiar with the melvins but a friend of mine recommended them to be when i was living in montreal for a period of time (i'd like to hear his opinion on the track 'montreal') i liked what id heard but didnt know where to start. personally im not into metal but fortunetly for me i am very interested in experimental/free noise stuff, this is what this album is...dont get me wrong there are some great musical moments ... my favorite track being the amazing yet simple 'Punch The Lion' where the track consists of some distant church bells and some street cheering like youd hear when a parade or festival was taking up the main streets but the great thing about it is they turn these sounds into an actual song by adding a steady drum line in front of it..good stuff. as far as the rest of it goes i like it as a background type cd , i find otherwise its a bit tough to keep interested in some of the more painful tracks

God's Of Rock,
By A Customer

The Melvins may be the best band ever, and this further solidify's it.They released the most commercial album of the career (1993's Houdini), and followed up with this beauty. Many people would dare call this an album filled with junk, but, its not. Its a concept album, about ... people off. And boy, the concept worked. Even the most hardcore of melvins fans ... on this masterpiece. You probably won't find it for sale anywhere's, and if you do, buy it and sell it to some melvins fan. or keep it. your choice live is a good album.
