5 stars for the ammount of fights and signifigance of this event!,

This is PRIDE's legendary 2000 Open Weight Grand Prix tournament. 16 of the worlds top fighters would enter and only one would come out on top. For this epic super tournmanet, PRIDE had gathered an impressive resume of fighters from all over the world and representing all different styles including Ukranian kickboxer Igor Vovchanchyn, American wrestlers Mark Coleman and Mark Kerr, Legendary Japanese pro wrestler and MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba, Antoni Inoki's protoge' Kazuyuki Fujita, Former king of Pancrase Guy Mezger, Big Daddy Gary Goodridge, and the return of the very first UFC champion Royce Gracie. This was meant to be the super tournament to find out once and for all who the top fighters were. Naturally since it was an open weight tournament, the larger fighters were presumed to win so a certain rule set was crafted to insure the fairest possible fights. Unfortanetley these rules differ from normal PRIDE rules and offer some slower paced action. This 3 disc set contains the whole tournament, held over the course of two shows with something like 18 total fights. Not all of them are incredibly exciting unfortunately but we get to see some classics like Sakuraba vs. Mezger, The 90 minute classic(or snoozefest based on your POV) between Sakuraba and Royce Gracie, Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Sakuraba, Igor vs. Goodridge, Kerr vs. Fujita, Ken Shamrock vs. Alex Otsuka(probably Ken's best performance to date), and a lot more including an early Wanderlei Silva fight. Any true MMA fan will love this event and you've got plenty to watch here. For me it was well worth the money. I remember reading about this event online back when it occured and seeing all of these old UFC fighters in it. For years I wondered what it was as it looked like an incredible tournament. Well here's the whole thing for all those curious. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. The only negative is that some of the fights are a little boring, but I'd say an equal number are very exciting and entertaining. If you're a longtime fan or follower of MMA, there's no way you won't be happy with it. More casual fans who just like to see only vicious knockouts and brawls(though it's got some) probably won't like it.

There are some good fights in here, specially if you are a Gracie fan. There are three disks and one of these is pretty much the long and tired fight of Gracie vs Sakuraba which lasts like 2 hours!! Over all there are some pretty exiting moments here and there, specially having Igor Vovchanchyn and Mark Coleman in this tournament.
If this is your first PRIDE FC purchase - go for more recent material - like Final Conflict - or the Bushido 2006 DVDs. IF you are a martial arts fan - then this complete tourney - is a must!

If you just want blood and gore, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're a true MMA fan, this is a great buy, especially for under $10.
We will never see an event like this again. Open weight class tournaments in MMA are not going to happen, especially with the UFC. So the significance of the event alone warrants the purchase of this DVD. If for no other reason, buy it for the Royce Gracie v. Sakuraba match. Maybe the greatest match in the history of MMA, after the original Gracie v. Kimura match (which you can't get on DVD because it wasn't recorded).
