I Loved the Movie, but the Soundtrack was Better by Far,
By Brittney Hinson "garnet17" (Ashford, Alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pride & Prejudice Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Okay, I'm a nut for movie soundtracks. If I like the movie, I can listen to the soundtrack over and over and picture the scenes from the movie that accompanied the song and I'm a happy camper. But there are a few soundtracks that I would buy even if I despised the movie (not that I hated this movie...I thought it was great..but that's another review) and this soundtrack was one of them. The songs range from romantic to dance worthy tunes. One song, I think it is called All the Way, makes you just want to be a better person and make a change in your life. It makes me feel good just to hear it. If you can find this soundtrack, do yourself a favor and buy it.

Awesome Soundtrack!!,

This soundtrack is just amazing. The songs greatly vary in style, and this just adds to the overall charm of the music. Ben Carson really knows his stuff. My overall favorites would be "Be With You" by Carmen Rassmusen, "Self Portrait" and "My Giant" by Stephanie Smith. I really hope I hear more from Smith, as she has an excellent voice. I definitely recommend this CD to anyone, you'll love it!

Playful and Fun Soundtrack,
This review is from: Pride & Prejudice Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Overall, a very satisfying soundtrack. As with most soundtracks, several are brief traveling or mood setting pieces (example, 9. "Elizabeth's Dream"). Even those are good. Overall the mood of this soundtrack is playful and fun, though other moods come through as well.4. "Bookstore Suite" just makes me want to tell jokes and time the punchlines with the playful string lines. 10. "My Baby" channels a 50's doo wop group. 11. "Bling Bling Daddy" shortened rap song--not a fan of rap, but clean and cool. "Not Enough of You"--pick your favorite Rat Pack crooner and sing along. 13. "Gathering" -Cool, but more of a background song. 16. "Matchpoint" is a frothy, fun melody--also menu tune for DVD. Many songs just make you want to dance: 1. "Nothing's Wrong"-love it! (also 24. reprise) 3. "Be With You"--fabulous! 6. "All the Way" -I imagine Smash Mouth could sing this 8. "Jane's Attraction"--when I enter a room, may this song always play! Argentinian guitar yumminess! 15. "Cowboy Rompin'" reminds me of an upbeat REM song or maybe a little mellower version of the Romantics' "What I Like About You" 19. "Solid Comma Girl" sounds a bit like The Church's album "Under the Milky Way"--really like this sound 21. "Life" Start a roadtrip with this song! 22. "Can't Stand the Way You See Me" I laugh everytime I hear this song! The song itself is great (though the end is slowed and prematurely shortened to fit the movie). I'd write it myself if it weren't already written! With the movie memory streaming with it, it's hilarious! 23. "My Giant" Some are simply beautiful 2. "Cake" --clock ticking in background--hmm, is someone getting older? 5. "Pillowtalk"--no lyrics 7. "Dream on Dream" -you might even cry 14. "Condition of Desperation" (I sing this song for you. My heart's like a clown in a circus ...") 17. "Bingley Leaves" come back, Charlie! 18. "Self Portrait" --go to a coffee shop on singer/songwriter night and if you're lucky, you'll hear something good like this 20. "Mutual Attraction" -no lyrics

We enjoyed the movie, and we liked many of the songs. As with many soundtracks, some of the music really doesn't do much for one outside of the film and are short, but there are 24 tracks and for the most part the music is interesting, variable and original. The song writer and the main artists have a lot of talent.

The new PRIDE and PREJUDICE (2003) Soundtrack is a really remarkable work from a very talented composer/arranger. I aquired this album quite by accident and have become more impressed with each repeated listening.Although this is a soundtrack from a very minor movie (Pride and Prejudice was produced by and for the LDS community), the innovation and complexity of the soundtract rivals any big budget production and Carson deserves all the credit. For the lead single from the movie Carson wrote and produced a sensational song, "Be With You," for Americal Idol finalist Carmen Rasmusen. The song rivals anything written for Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken or Ruben Studdard and the production quality is equally high. Carmen does a remarkable job on the song (I'll be honest, I didn't know she had it in her....). If the song could just receive national airplay it would certainly be a hit. But the real joy in this album come from the diverse and interesting little songs included, including the instrumental background tracks. I usge you to buy this album so you can be among the first to "discover" Ben Carson.

I really really love the P&P soundtrack. My favorite songs on it are 'Nothin' Wrong' and 'Be With You'. The whole reason I bought the CD is just that I'm a HUGE fan of Carmen Rasmusen! Well, actually I begged my mom for it [hehe :)]. But we thought it was worth it! Its a really good CD!!! You should but it!!!!

I'm a big fan of Carmen Rasmusen's. I love the husky, throaty sound of her voice. So being a big fan of hers, I purchased the Pride & Prejudice soundtrack, and I was not disappointed. There are at least three incredible talents whose work is heard here. The first is Carmen. The second is Ben Carson. I agree entirely with the wizard's comments on Mr. Carson. He wrote almost all the songs on the CD, ranging in styles from '40s crooning "Not Enough Of You", to pop "Nothing Wrong" and "Be With You", to modern rock "All The Way", and he excels in all styles. The CD is worth every penny just to hear his incredible talent. The third exceptional talent that I'd like to talk about here is Stephanie Smith. I find "Self Portrait" to be a precious little gem of a song about accepting yourself for who you are and leading your life in the way that makes you happy. I certainly look forward to hearing more from Mr. Carson and Ms. Smith in the future. There isn't a single weak song on this CD. The only reason that I'm giving this CD 4 stars instead of 5 is that, although I'm a big fan of Carmen's, the people who hate her voice are not likely to be converted into fans by "Be With You", a cute, up-tempo pop tune. It does sound technologically enhanced. I can't entirely disagree with "Kelbon"'s review below, she would benefit from better vocal training, and she should probably wait until receiving that training before she really pursues a career in singing. But I do feel the song plays to Carmen's vocal strengths, not her weaknesses. I'll put it this way, if you were a fan of Carmen's during "American Idol", you'll absolutely love "Be With You." If you hated Carmen's voice, "Be With You" will not make you a fan of hers. But if you were sort of "in-between" on Carmen's voice, I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised with her song here. To sum up, the production values and songwriting are of very high quality throughout the CD, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this CD to anyone. P.S. I am a member of Carmen's official fan website. The person identified as "Kelbon" here says that he was a fan of Carmen ever since he laid eyes on her. However, anyone who is regular member of Carmen's official fan website knows KelBon has routinely said that he did not become a fan of Carmen's until she sang "You Can't Hurry Love" on Motown night. The KelBon at the official fan website DID NOT become a fan of Carmen's when he first laid eyes on her. Just thought all of you should know.

Let me start by saying that Kelbon would never write a review slamming Carmen. I like this C.D. very much. I find the song "Be with you" by Carmen the best song on the album.
