5.0 out of 5 stars One of The BEST CDs you will probably NEVER Hear
This Disc is so good that my brother and I were actually ANGRY that so many people slept on it. "And The Angel Comes" is probably the best male vocal done in the last 5 years. Unfortunately R&B and POP Radio are not about artistry these days. Therfore artist like Rachid, Sandra St Victor, Meshell NdegeOcello and Amel Larrieux are more than likely never...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to snuff
From the very amateurish cover to the demo-quality sound, Rachid's debut is an album full of good intentions gone awry. Unfortunately, while he is ambitious, he lacks the hubris to really listen and carefully edit, and he tends to do a little too much showing off.

Unfortunately R&B and POP Radio are not about artistry these days. Therfore artist like Rachid, Sandra St Victor, Meshell NdegeOcello and Amel Larrieux are more than likely never heard on your favorite radio stations "Afternoon Drive Home" show. I can't say it enough, if you like great artist, I mean a singer and songwriter that is truly ahead of the curve, pick up this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars moody and soulful, I've been listening to it over and over.., July 26, 1998

The first song "Charade" is a pointed commentary on the false selves we present to the world rather than trusting that who we really are will be liked and accepted. It hooked me right away. Rachid's music is interesting and intense, and his voice is sensual and filled with emotion. I loved the mixtures of sounds and beats on this CD. His music makes you feel connected to him as you enjoy its rhythms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Excellence!, February 13, 2005

Rachid, where are you? Why haven't we heard more from you? I wish I had congratulated you on your excellent work when I saw you at the movie theater several years ago! This CD is excellent in every way and surely it must be indicative of some behind-the-scenes beef that the CD and the artist weren't given more attention. This guy is truly gifted and I can hardly believe that he wrote and arranged all of these songs as I look at his baby face on the cover. Many of the tracks resonated with me, but Prodigal Pete had me crying before I even realized it. The CD is SO honest and SO real and there seems to be no showbiz hocus pocus whatsoever (an industry first, perhaps). That it is being sold here for $.01 is an injustice in terms of the way that music and artistry are valued; the good news is that smart music lovers can get an incredible addition to their CD collections at a bargain basement price!

Like the other reviewers, it is unimaginable to me how this album got so little attention. Rachid deftly moves between a number of styles to create a truly unique sound. One of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest voices of the 90's, November 23, 2001

I think that this album is one of the greatest achivements of the decade. The compositionsare so originals, creating a whole new style that it's hard to defind, because the whole album has a unique sound, a special buzz that really makes you think about the future of this artist ... is it just a perfect and unique moment of glorious inspiration, or is it a pure talented man?
The vocals arrangments are very interesting, in songs like "Evil" (maybe the best) and the vocal acrobacities of Rachid are amazings. This is one of my best albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing, July 9, 1999

When I first saw the video for pride on BET, I was hooked on the sound. I waited and waited for the CD to drop, and when it did I was not disapointed. This cd is Great. I love each and every song. My favorites are Pride, Evil, and When the angel comes. The three best songs are The one to destroy me, feed the pigeons, and back to the room. Rachid's voice is magnificent. He blends soul, with rock strength and then adds a little bit of alternative sound to make a sound all his own. The musical arrangements are splendid too. I love this CD, and Rachid is my favorite artist. HE is followed by prince in my book. Hope fully he will announce some concert dates, so myself and others can enjoy his melodic sound. 5.0 out of 5 stars RACHID's THE BEST, December 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Prototype (Audio CD)
A big Prince fan, but this is the best cd of 1998. Great ballads in Zoe's World and One To Destroy Me. Charade kicks, Ghostcalling is TOO funky. I've listened to this cd non stop since summer. Anyone who took the step in the right direction and at least heard this album did themselves a favor. Anyone who ended up not liking it doesn't like good progressive, thought provoking music. Rachid kicks ass.

This guy is the best singer/songwriter you've never heard. His voice and lyrics are amazing. His arrangements are incredible. The is an all around classic album. I can't speak enough good about it. Every song is amazing in its own right. You can tell that his influences are from every genre as he is a chameleon of sorts having mastered every genre. He jumps across the musical spectrum so effortlessly and blends it all so masterfully. This is just plain amazing music.

5.0 out of 5 stars When's the next album?, January 27, 2000
This review is from: Prototype (Audio CD)
I very rarely use the word "awesome", but Rachid is all that and vat of warm, liquid silk, too. I characteristically play 2-4 songs to death and all but ignore the rest, but each cut on this disc is A++. However (ain't there always a "however"?), "The One to Destroy Me", for its lyrics, arrangement and vocal phrasing, has put a stranglehold on my heart and won't let go. Oh, Rachid.... PLEASE hurry up and release your next treasure!
