5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Burroughs, November 29, 2010
This review is from: A Pride of Royals (Paperback)
This book is so nonsensical, so removed from even the most tenuous connection to reality, that reading it is pure joy. It's like Edgar R. Burroughs in a more modern language and with more shooting.

A Pride of Royals can be enjoyed on its own, but gets better if you happen to know anything at all about history, or Russia, or WWI, or, in fact, reality. The plot, set just before the Russian Revolution of 1917, involves King George V and Kaiser Wilhelm sending a US Naval lieutenant (whom else would they send?) to bring out of Russia Tzar Nikolai II, the royal family, and a couple of ballet dancers. The lieutenant is assisted by a gay British guards officer and a German submarine. Germans weave dastardly plots. The Tzar's brother weaves disloyal plots. The ballerinas weave artistic plots. The communists weave evil plots. There's plenty of non-explicit sex and dramatic bloodshed. Good triumphs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, November 14, 2010

cavewoman "cavewoman" (Fort Worth, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Pride of Royals (Paperback)
This book held me from the first page to the last sentence. I found myself wishing it were not fiction!
In the midst of World War I, with Germany and England at war, Russian Revolutionaries kidnap Czar Nicolas of Russia and his family, and they are imprisoned on an estate in eastern Russia. King George V of England decides to appeal to his cousin Willy (Kaiser of Germany) with whom he is at war, to join forces in smuggling 'Dear Cousin Nicky" out of Russia to safety in England.
He sends an American Naval Officer to seek out the Kaiser, enlist his aid and organize the rescue. It is a rip roaring rollicking story.

If you get a chance to read this by all means do so.

I have read several other of Justin Scott's books and enjoyed them all.
