A wonderful book. I love reading it to my two boys (5 & 3). The illustrations are beautiful and the story helps me pass on my faith in a simple allegory. The message of Christ is alluded to in the "fairy tale" from Zechariah. Then presented more directly in the surrounding story of the grandfather and his grandchildren.

The Priest with Dirty Clothes may be the best children's book our family owns (and we own a lot of them). The story is short enough that kids under 6 can handle it, but deep enough to convey many of the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sin has made us "dirty", and we cannot stand before the King in such filth. So, we must be clothed in the righteousness of the Prince (the King's Son) in order to be in the King's presence. This book does a great job of teaching this truth in a fun way--and the pictures are really beautiful and intricate. Christian parents really need this book. By the way, if Amazon doesn't carry this book, you can order it from Ligonier.org or christianbook.com.

Good children's books are those that provide eternal truths that adults need brought back to their remembrance as well. This is such a book. Dr. Sproul is a wonderful communicator and a master of making complex theological themes understandable and boiled down to their essential elements. This book brings out the wonderful message of Christ's provision for our salvation in a tale that will thrill children and adults alike. Hardly do I read it that it does not once again spur me to emotion at what our savior has done for us. Many thanks to one of my favorite teachers.

Using the passage from the Book of Zechariah about Joshua, as the high priest, standing in front of God in dirty clothes, Dr. Sproul brings this truth home for a younger audience by setting the story in a children's book. The young priest in this story has dirty clothes that cannot be cleaned, but the Great Prince helps him by giving the young priest a new set of clothes - the robe of the Great Prince himself! Standing in the robe of the Great Prince, the young priest is now worthy to stand before the king - and not because of his own works or ability, but because of the clothes that have been given to him to wear. In the same manner, Scripture teaches us that we are dirty with sin and unworthy to stand before a righteous and holy God, but for the righteousness of Christ that we wear as a free gift given to all believers. As I read this book, I was reminded of various passages in the New Testament as well that tell followers of Christ to put off their own desires and put on the righteousness of Christ. Not only is this principle true for salvation, but for living the Christian life as well - it is only by the power of Christ that we can walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Great book for the young elementary-aged reader.

Even as RC Sproul is able to take difficult theological concepts and make them clear to adults, so he is able to take justification and imputed righteousness and make it clear to little children.

This is an excellent resource for your library that you will want to share with your children and grandchildren over and over. Biblical truth expressed in a clear way that will serve to introduce and reinforce the concept that only the righteous covering of God's Son makes us fit for the King.

This may be R. C. Sproul's best book. It states the Protestant position on justification & imputation of Christ's righteousness better than any book he's written. This is a classic. I highly recommend it. I've read it to my grandchildren. As they get older, we will read it again & again.
