OK Live Attempt,
By
This review is from: Priest Live (Audio CD)
I was somewhat disapointed in this release. Not that it is bad but I was expecting something a whole lot better. I guess there is only one thing I can blame this on, and it is pretty obvious: these songs were taken from the "Turbo" tour. That should say it all. Turbo was definetly the bands worst release. The production is similar to that of Turbo which brings it down also.Turbo I believed was made by computer generated music(so was Defenders Of The Faith)and that made the music like...STINK.Well here is what I think of each individual song:1.Out In The Cold-Disgraceful intro number. As soon as I started to hear this I was getting ready to go back inside the music store and get my money back. It's terrible 2.Heading Out To The Highway-Better follow-up song. I thought it was really good although the origional surfaced on "Point Of Entry" was much better due to better production. But it ain't bad 3.Metal Gods-I truely really like this song. But the attack of the killer production strikes again and tears this song to bits. 4.Breaking The Law-This is truely the 1st song where I would say it is better than the origional. It is more fast paced and has falsetto in it which I think was for the better. Trust me the version on "British Steel" kind of blows but this one is really pretty good 5.Love Bites-Another good song. Sounds pretty much like the version on "Defenders Of The Faith" though. All in all though its good 6.Some Heads Are Gonna Roll-I never really thought much of this song, but its still not all that bad. 7.The Sentinel-Dynamite song. It's intro just blows my mind away. Great selection 8.Private Property-This is the point where the album starts to go downhill. I honestly did not like this one. I just like Stinks 9.Rock You Around The World-This song is not bad. It has a heavy guitar intro and is fast paced so I give it at least some respect 10.Electric Eye-Good song. Was affected a little by the production though, but I love this song so It will do. Dose include "The Hellion" intro 11.Turbo Lover-This is the one song off of "Turbo" that is somewhat decent. It's slow and dramatic and I think it dose deserve some attention. So all in all its a pretty good song. 12.Freewheel Burning-Here we come to the best part of the CD. With the motorcycle at the beginning this song is made to be one of the best live recording's I have ever heard. It is faster also which I think is for the better. Definetly listen to this one if any 13.Parental Guidance-Bad song. No further comments 14.Living After Midnight-This really makes up for the disaster of "Parental Guidance". This song is still strong and I still love it 15.You've Got Another Thing Coming-Great Outro number. It was expanded by about 3 minutes which I think is even better. So its a good live recording So all in all its an OK album, although it could have been a whole lot better. But if you see it marked down about 10 dollars go ahead and buy it.

Part II In the Saga of "Judas Priest Live".,
By A Customer
This review is from: Priest Live (Audio CD)
There are 2 Judas Priest live albums (we shall NOT acknowledge "Metal Meltdown '98" or whatever the hell its called, that is not true Priest), and this isn't the better of the two, but it certainly isn't horrid. "Priest...Live!" covers everything that "Unleashed in the East" couldn't: the 80's Priest, including the nauseating "Turbo Lover". Really when it comes to reviewing this record, it depends which Priest you prefer, the 70's Priest, a young band which fused blues, metal, and deep, penatrative lyrics with its music, or the 80's Priest, a "great sometimes, horrible sometimes" leather metal band which occasionally strayed so far into ridiculousness that it isn't funny. Which school of thought do you come from? Here's the way to tell: Have you ever heard a song by Priest called "Deciever"? No? Ok, then you probably like 80's Priest. Get this record, then.

Priest - great 80's metal live-performance,
By A Customer
This review is from: Priest Live (Audio CD)
Priest has existed in 3 decades, the 70s, the 80s and the 90s. Their musical style has also changed with the times, and this album represents Judas Priest - 80s heavy metal-style. Personally my favourite Priest-mixture would be a blend of 70s and 80s songs, and this live-album lacks a lot of pearls from the 70s. But still, it's a fantastic performance and a must for all true Priest-fans

Like Motorhead's 'No Sleep at All', this recording has a decidedly lo-fi, almost bootleg feel. I really like that aspect of it. It leaves one with the feeling of actually having been at the concert, rather than a "live" recording improved by hours and hours of re-engineering with overdubs in the studio. I'm sure there was a fair amount of in-studio work on this album, but the live feeling is still preserved. The version of 'Love Bites' recorded here is my favorite version of the song.
You can get a used copy of original hissy lo-fi pre-remastered version for a buck or two. Totally worth it.

In '87 I was trying to get out of high school (finally!), & this was definitely getting 5 stars from me cuz it was like, all the best from British Steel to Turbo. It was about time to hear all the classics live, you know? Like what more could you want? Now I wish I could hear more of a real set list including some of the earlier material. Maybe the band would be kind enough to dig into the vaults & put out a prime show from like, '83? But anyways I still say 4 stars cuz all the material rocks today as much as it did back then (including the five(!) songs off of Turbo). Definitely required for fans but not an all time great. Some have commented about the flat sound. I think I agree when played @ lower volume levels. But it shreds when you crank it. This goes for a lot of JP albums, actually. Just remember, this music is meant to be listened at TOTAL MAXIMUM ROAR!

Definitive Live Metal,
By A Customer

Boys and Girls I've seen it all and I'm here to tell you that live Priest is the the epitome of everything metal should be. Rob, Glen, KK and the boys wrote the book. Everyone else is just a pretender to the throne. Studio work is one thing, but let's face it, the proof is in the abibilty to make it happen live in front of 20,000 people. This collction of live cuts is taken from a period of live metal in it's heyday. I love it all. But this is the one that bangs my head against the steering wheel no matter what.

Simply the best album of 1980's heavy metal,
By A Customer
This review is from: Priest Live (Audio CD)
The waning of melodic 1980's heavy metal began with the appearance of Guns n Roses in 1987 and was complete with Niravana's ascendance in 1991. Now there is so much angst and self-loathing in metal that it is hard for me to take -- I yearn for the straight-ahead, cheerful, party metal from a happier era which I trace back to the Destroyer album (Kiss). If you want to hear the best of that melodic metal era, then get this album -- you will NOT be disappointed.

Good but unfortunately below Priest standards,

THis CD has only merit: contains the classic line-up of Halford /; Tipton / Downing / Hill / Holland, who recorded the great albuns " British Steel ", "Poinf of Entry" and " Screaming for vengeance". But this same line-up recorded the infamous " Turbo"... THe trobule with this live CD is that it has the TURBO " soul": cold, flat, heartless. COmparing it with with "Unlleashed in the East" is impossible.

Man this record is just a great big glob of cheese. Cheesy production, cheesy songs and oh man....Halford is really cheesing it up! This tepid live offering, issued the month I graduated high school was purchased for the sole reason that I loved Priest! Turbo was a lame album, and a live disc from that tour was not something to look forward to but I was a loyal fan and I bought it. If 'Unleashed in the East' is the epitome of metal greatness, the 'Priest Live' is the epitome of comercial sellout. The video sucks too. "Private Property" and "Parental Guidance" are embarassments! "Rock You All Around the World"? Give me a break! There in lies the problem with 'Live', five songs from 'Turdbo' and four from 'Defenders'. Not enough 'British Steel' or 'Screaming' songs. Probably a good thing since the production sounds muted and decidedly more like chick rock! Def Leppard was great but why was Priest trying to look and sound like them......$$$$$$$$$$$ probably but at what expense??
