The Real Thing, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess: A Renewed Spiritual Path for the 21st Century (Paperback)
I challenge anyone to read *Priestess of Avalon* and not dance away knowing that Kathy Jones is the real thing. The intricate, complex web of the*a*logy she describes in the book is something she and others in Glastonbury, UK, have obviously experienced directly. No one could just have imagined this elaborate and satisfying system; it had to grow out of direct experience. You can't just make this stuff up!
Although this book was written for all of us interested in Goddess, it's also a textbook for a three-year training program designed to help students self-initiate as priest/esses of the Goddess. The 90 initiates who've already completed the training did it in the town of Glastonbury, UK, but the program is now opening up as a correspondence course. Hence this 522-page text, packed with the information, knowledge and activities needed to complete the course. Even though correspondence trainees are still expected to make twice-yearly visits to Glastonbury, those unable to travel more often to the town will see in the correspondence course a Goddess-send.
But this book isn't just for priest/esses, it's for all of us. For Goddess lovers, Glastonbury, with its Goddess Temple (one of the industrialized world's first - if not the first), its annual Goddess festival (founded by Kathy Jones herself), and now its excellent training program, is like a beacon in the darkness. And this book to a great extent is about Glastonbury, the Isle of Avalon, and the magic that pervades both places.
The book is full of sample ceremonies, rituals, and scores of short training exercises: "Each morning as you wake in the liminal moments between sleep and wakefulness, listen for the Goddess's words of inspiration...." (166). At Imbolc, make a Bridie Doll and give her "a special place in your heart and mind." (142). And "design new Goddess games to play...." (222). Etc., etc.
In general, this is not a light book. It's laden with a goldmine of weighty concepts, ideas, insights and training materials. It's about learning to scry, and to create and conduct involved ceremonies, including but not limited to the most popular: those for marriage, baby-naming and funerals. It's about learning to walk through fire (literally) and about becoming skilled in the art of manifestation -- calling the archetypal priestess into your body - and learning to keep her there longer and longer. It's about mastering the art of personally embodying the Goddess.
Reading this book made me want to dig out Marion Zimmer Bradley's *Mists of Avalon* again and read it all the way through. After all, the magic Isle of Avalon and its priestesses and Goddesses are what Kathy Jones' *Priestess of Avalon* is all about. By submitting ourselves to her priest/ess training, one feels we might well learn abilities that in our wildest imaginations we've attributed only to ancient priestesses peopling iconic Goddess novels such as *Mists*.

The Path To Avalon, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess: A Renewed Spiritual Path for the 21st Century (Paperback)
Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess is not just another book, it is a way of life, a journey to Avalon. I am not talking about another King Aurther story I am talking about an actual path to follow that is inspiring and realistic. Kathy Jones does a remarkable job at guiding you through the labyrinth of the Goddess from beginning to end. By the time you finish this book you will want to walk the path to Avalon and in turn will have transformed yourself and your one on one relationship to the Goddess, with the Lady of Avalon. Yes, it is a Goddess path with mention of the Gods, however, it is truly based on a path of Women's Spirituality in which both men and women are welcome to walk. An in depth introduction to the Nine Morgens and a refreshed look at the Wheel of the Year is just a part of what you will find in this fascinating and enlightening journey. You will come to know the Lady of Avalon up close and personal and will see all aspects of her in a different light. The poems within will make your heart skip a beat. The rituals that are in this book are not only rituals of beauty they are rituals of meaning. You will not be able to perform them and not come out a changed person. In fact, studying this way will change you if you are open and ready. It is not, however, a path for the faint of heart as it is truly about transformation. Although the foundation of the book is based on a path that the author believes must include a trip to Glastonbury to get the full effect she also tells you that Goddess is everywhere and therefore this path can be walked anywhere in the world if you are only willing to follow the Goddess. It is quite apparent that Kathy Jones follows the path that she writes about as there is truly no way to inspire people the way the words she writes does unless you have yourself been inspired by the Goddess yourself. If you feel that you have been missing something in your life or that the path you are walking isn't as fulfilling as you want it to be this could very well be what you are looking for. It is not very often that I find a book that grabs me and totally gives me a new perspective like Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess has. Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess takes you on a 3 year journey. You can lay your journey out with a concise plan as Kathy Jones has made the journey clear and gives you the guidance that you will need to accomplish it. Unlike many books that lead you down a path and then require you to buy another book to get the whole picture this book will not leave you wanting and wondering what next. Although I would love to see Kathy Jones write another book with additional information, poems and rituals this book has everything you need to become a Priestess of Avalon and you do not have to wait for or buy a second book to do it. If there is one downfall to this book it is that it is not on your local store's bookshelf. The only place you can buy it new is to go directly through Kathy Jones who lives in Glastonbury which means that it has to be shipped Internationally and takes longer than what we are generally used to. You can purchase it used but the price of this book used on Amazon makes the wait of the International shipping worth it. Kathy also offers Priestess of Avalon Training both online and an 8 week training for 3 years. Both require that you make several trips to Glastonbury to walk the land of The Lady of Avalon. I, personally, have the training on my wish list as we all know the Goddess can and does work miracles!

Excellent for anyone interested in Avalon, January 13, 2009
This review is from: Priestess of Avalon Priestess of the Goddess: A Renewed Spiritual Path for the 21st Century (Paperback)
This book is written by a resident of Glastonbury, the home of the ancient site of Avalon. It is great! The author has the authenticity to back her explanations of the Goddesses presence there. It is also part of a online correspondence course for those wishing to become an official priestess of Avalon.
