Book Description

October 1996
Priestess, Woman as Sacred Celebrant: A historical account of woman's role as priestess in Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Old Testament Times, Ancient Greece, Late Antiquity, the Dark Ages, the Reformation and the Second Reformation. Told as "autobiographical fiction," it details one woman's journey as she time travels from 3000 BCE through the present and into the future. Erotic. Ecstatic. And Real. A page turner. "Great storytelling! Pamela Eakins has a narrative voice graced with intelligence, wisdom, and a generous dollop of sensuality." Charlene Spretnak

Review

Pamela Eakins' Priestess: Woman As Sacred Celebrant is the story of a woman's journey through time. Priestess tells what happens during different eras as she attempts, life after life, to find and celebrate the sacred spirit. In the process she examines women's spirituality throughout the ages and teaches readers how to journey into their own consciousness. Priestess is inspiring, engaging reading for anyone with an interest in developing spirituality and acquiring insight into the meaning and mysteries of life. -- Midwest Book Review

More About the Author

Pamela Eakins came into this life with curiosity and words. She has never stopped writing since she submitted her first book to Random House at the age of ten (which was ever-so-kindly rejected). Her first memorable accolades came with a gold medal she won in the Colorado Bicentennial Competition for her essay on the blue spruce. As she studied for her doctorate at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she continued to write everyday. Writing became her morning practice. Her dissertation, Mothers in Transition, was published soon after she moved to California to birth her babies, to become the director of a childbirth center, and to conduct research at Stanford University and UCLA. On a high cliff over the ocean, her written expression continued to grow as did her spiritual sense of inter-being. She published The American Way of Birth and began work on Tarot of the Spirit and Priestess. Whether scholarly or mystical, whether accepted or rejected, writing, in and of itself, has never been at question for Pamela Eakins. Nor has teaching. Pamela conducts classes online and onsite: tarot, qabalah, women's circles, and writing. Visit her at www.pamelaeakins.com, www.tarotofthespirit.com, and www.lightningspiral.com (and get your free tarot reading!).

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep...Perceptive...Insightful! I loved it all!!!, October 23, 1998

This review is from: Priestess: Woman As Sacred Celebrant (Paperback)
In her highly cerebral style, Eakins once again explores the events of all ages that bear so heavily on our culture. We need to know what has been and what will be if we are to enter the next millenium with confidence. She caters to this fundamental need magnificantly!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for spiritual seekers, March 26, 2004
This review is from: Priestess: Woman As Sacred Celebrant (Paperback)
This book is a powerful journey through time and space; an exploration of Truth and Spirit that takes the reader through history and into the future. The writing is deeply thought-provoking. So many books of this genre can be pretty mindless pap, but not this one. A Spiritual journey is full of joy, terror, pain and pleasure -- and so is this book. If you are looking for an in depth exploration of alternative spirituality, this book is highly recommended by me.
