5.0 out of 5 stars more like this?, March 6, 2008
This review is from: Prilla's Prize (Disney Fairies) (Hardcover)
this is the first of the disney fairies books that we have bought and my 2 and 5 yr olds love it. my 2 yr-old really likes tinkerbell and the fairies but i don't think she's ready for the chapter books yet so i would like to find more in this format.

we were able to understand the story well enough even though it is clear that there is some more context neccessary to fully appreciate some of the details which is why i would like to find more stories in this format.

This review is from: Prilla's Prize (Disney Fairies) (Hardcover)
My 4 year old loves this book. The pages are thick and textured. The pictures are incredibly beautiful. The story is good and easy to read. I would love to see this become a series. Definitely worth your money!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute more picture book-like Disney Fairies title, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Prilla's Prize (Disney Fairies) (Hardcover)
My daughter (age 5) has enjoyed the Disney Fairies chapter books. I have read all of them to her, several of them multiple times. She also enjoyed this title, but it is very different from the chapter books, with a much simpler story line and large full color (and slightly textured) pictures occupying much of every page. This would be a good choice for younger girls who might have enjoyed the chapter books (Trouble with Tink, etc.) as read-alouds, but also still enjoy a picture book.

I wouldn't recommend this book for a child who hasn't read/heard the chapter books because I don't know how clear the story line would be without the background information in the chapter books. Would someone who hasn't read them understand what a "mainland visiting clapping talent fairy" or understand the structure of the fairy society around various talents? That information is the basis of this story (Prilla wants to compete in the Olympic-like Games but, since she's the only one in her talent, needs to decide what events to partipate in)?

The ending is cute and has a nice message about the importance of trying, even if you don't win.
