5.0 out of 5 stars Get over it
Nothing in life is perfect. However, considering how cheap of a choline source this is, this product comes somewhat close. When I first got it, all of the powder was in one giant clump, but it was pretty easy to break it all up. Yes, there is a fish smell, but it's natural. It's nothing worse than any fish oil supplements you might take. It tastes alright: like powdered...

When I first got it, all of the powder was in one giant clump, but it was pretty easy to break it all up. Yes, there is a fish smell, but it's natural. It's nothing worse than any fish oil supplements you might take. It tastes alright: like powdered lemon juice with some salt added to it. When you take into account the bulk of the product, along with the price, it's really not that bad. If you ever need a cheap, effective choline source, this would be your best bet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me out!, August 22, 2011

I began taking this product, along with piracetam. Beyond the funny smell and interesting taste, it has helped me along with a recovery, in my life. I take this product 5 days a week, twice a day. After about 30 minutes of ingesting this product, I begin to feel more focused. I take 500mg to 1000mg a day, and I've barely put a dent in the supply.(Purchased in June 2011) Overall, if looking to gain more concentration and focus in life, this product is invaluable. Best of luck to all and have a wonderful day.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Product Worked for Me, January 15, 2012

I spent considerable time reading product reviews both here at Amazon and all over the internet before making the decision to purchase. I ingested two grams a day for the first week in hopes of getting my system loaded and then cut down to one gram a day (my current daily dose). I noticed the benefits in about week and a half. My ability to concentrate and mood has improved. I won't exaggerate and say that it has "NZT 48" effects as the improvement I've noticed isn't extreme. In fact the improvement was so mild for me that I had begun to wonder if the product even works. While I did concentrate and feel better overall using this product, I was thoroughly convinced when I missed a couple of doses on two consecutive mornings. Upon taking the missed doses later in the day, I noticed my ability to concentrate improved within an hour and half. Again, this is not a life changing product nor is it a cure all but it definitely helps.

This choline source is very effective and I feel the neural reception of it within 15 minutes. The price is great and the product is even better. The only downside, which is really just an incidental inconvenience as it doesn't affect the effectiveness of the choline, is that it was pretty clumpy. I had to break up the clumps and I would have preferred not to have had to do this. It's a little dumb, I know, but that's why I didn't allow it to detract from the rating.

Moving on to the "surprising, horrible feature": the dead fish smell! There's no way around this, when you unscrew the cap off you get a fishy aroma. However, after wafting the smells away for 5 seconds or so, the smell is border-line neutral. Tolerable, at the least. Now to the next surprise: it tastes like citrate! Choline CITRATE, citrate reflecting how it tastes. I put a little water in my mouth, tilt my head back and then dump some of the powder in. I swallow it down like a shot and it tastes alright, if you like citrate. It's not like I then smell like a decaying fish all day.

Summing things up, it smells bad - whoopty do! It tastes fine and it will enhance your life, especially if you're choline deficient. I love this stuff people. It's improved my mental performance and health. I do take it with piracetam, so that's helping the performance/health, too. DON'T BE DETERRED BY THE SMELL! Later :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Disgustingly Cost Effective, September 1, 2010

This review is from: Primaforce Choline Citrate, 500-Grams (Health and Beauty)
I have been using Primaforce Piracetam with Jarrow Formulas CDP Choline for over a year now, and recently due to the very high price this type of choline, I began looking for a less expensive alternative. The clear choice was the Primaforce Choline Citrate, which, although having a substantially lower bioavailability than the CDP choline, was nearly twenty times cheaper on a mass basis. So I decided to try it out.

The first thing I noticed was that, as expected, the Choline citrate smelled quite bad. Imagine a fish that had spent its life living in chemical waste, was left in the sun for a few days after it died, then served partially cooked with lemon seasoning, and you'll have a fairly decent idea of how this smells. The second thing I noticed was the taste, which is substantially worse than the smell when administered in powder form and washed down, and indescribably worse when dissolved in water. It made me gag and almost immediately upset my stomach, although this passed after only a few minutes. On my second attempt I discovered the proper way to consume this substance, namely to hold your nose, put a scoop of powder in your mouth, and wash it down with a glass of Piracetam dissolved in water. By the time you finish the glass, the chemical taste of the Piracetam largely overcomes the bad taste of the Choline Citrate. Or you could always cap it in OO gelcaps if you're not willing do deal with this process.

Now, as bad as the above comments may sound, there is no way of getting around the fact that this product is VASTLY cheaper than any of its competition, and with this in mind, I will be willing to put up with any momentary discomforts from its use knowing that I am saving a considerable amount of money by doing so.

As far as effectiveness, taking this choline in a 1:1 or 2:3 ratio with the piracetam seems to be entirely sufficient to compensate for piracetam's increased acetylcholine consumption. So while a somewhat higher dose of the Choline Citrate is required than the CDP Choline, the price difference in this respect more than compensates for this difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, Great Price!, September 11, 2011

This review is from: Primaforce Choline Citrate, 500-Grams (Health and Beauty)
Being in a partnership of over 11years with a man who works in the Seafood industry, it was easy to bypass the smell and blame it on his Grunden, however Choline Citrate does smell fishy and that is entirely normal. Anyone who has ever taken Borax would prefer the smell of Choline Citrate any day. This stuff is potent in smell AND efficacy. Within the first 20 minutes I was able to get in Study Zone for an upcoming Econ Exam. Not only am I using it for study purposes, but for a quick and cheap mood and energy boost for my workouts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why does it stink?, May 26, 2010

I'm not sure of the potency of this material, but one thing is for sure, it smells. This may or may not be the way the stuff is supposed to smell, it's hard to say as I've never had choline citrate before. Maybe it's from the packaging...

So, what does it smell like? Lawn fertilizer, dead fish, ... This makes me nervous.

But, I give it two stars because I like the handle which is convenient when I need to carry my choline citrate with me to school, work, or the beach. Otherwise the smell drives it to 1 stars.
