Piracetam has been part of what I call my study stack for college. While it -might- not be as good as aniracetam it's much cheaper and easily available.

One thing to note when considering it is that it tastes utterly horrible. If you've tried bulk PEA...you aren't prepared. If you've had bulk BCAA's...they're like candy in comparison. An entire lemon crystal...

An entire lemon crystal light can't mask it. Either shotgun it and/or chase it or cap them. It's that bad.

Using a dosage of 2g I've had good results (3.85) stacked with Huperzine A, a good B-Complex and Lecithin (important to take this or some sort of choline with piracetam).

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective and potent, August 25, 2009

I've been taking Piracetam for almost a year now, and must say it definitely works to increase alertness and memory, and I would even say it makes me a bit smarter too. It definitely has a stronger effect if you mix it with Choline (100g of 1Fast400 Choline Citrate mixed with 500g of Primaforce Piracetam is my standard combo). To test if the effects were real or imagined I got two of my friends to try it with me, and both reported an increase in alertness after only a few days of continuous use. One friend actually felt the effects right away, and found his optimal dose is only around 2g a day. I was much less sensitive, requiring about 6g optimal daily dose. The other friend was in between. The effects were positive for all of us, but our sensitivity and optimal dosage varied, so I recommend starting small and stepping up your dosage until you find diminished returns.

Also, Piracetam tastes very bitter. The best way to hide the taste is mixing it with something else that's bitter, like grapefruit juice or lemonade. I don't think it's that bad though, and stir it with a small amount of water and chug it. One more thing, this is NOT a substitute for real medication. I have ADD but wanted to explore alternatives to prescription drugs. The Piracetam helps overall cognition, but nothing enables me to focus as much as my Ritalin.

Particularly if I don't get a full nights sleep it makes me feel tired and slow for a while after taking even medium doses. After googling "piracetam tired" I see that I'm far from alone there. Useful occasionally to put oneself in a different state of mind, did seem to help with recall, but that's negated by the inability to verbalize these thoughts efficiently. Worth a try at this price as everyone is different with these things but not quite the wonder drug I was expecting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as bitter as I thought!, May 1, 2010

This review is from: PRIMAFORCE PIRACETAM 500 GRAMS (Health and Beauty)
I purchased Piracetam and Pyroglutamic Acid from different vendors. Both are very similar in structure. I tried Piracetam just once to compare the taste of both. Piracetam does not tastes to me as horribly bitter as for other people who reviewed it. It tastes like bitter grapefruit with a little bit of grapefruit skin. It's not so bad, in fact I am able to take it without using any caps, and without making a funny face. There is a tiny scoop inside. Expiration until 04/04/12, the only thing is that I purchased it from a different vendor "SP" -'Smart Powders' on Ebay. I will start using Piracetam when I finish Pyroglutamic Acid (read my review here on amazon). One more thing is from what I read I recommend anyone taking Piracetam to take DMAE as a choline source. DMAE also increases dreams and cognitive functions. Do NOT take DMAE in the evening as you will have trouble sleeping.

UPDATE: I discontinued Pyroglutamic acid and started taking PIRACETAM to get faster results. I take 1 gram x3/day with DMAE 250mg x2/day and Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500mg x2/day. Have been taking it for two weeks. So far I don't see any noticeable improvements.

Update: 18 July, 2010. I discontinued Piracetam because I didn't notice any effects. When I needed to remember something it wouldn't come to my mind and this happened many times. And I took it for several months with no detectable results on my side. DMAE+piracetam+Acetyl-L-Carnitine made me anxious, I did't notice that until I discontinued these 3 products and felt calm and at peace !! I was also supplementing with Lecithin granules during all this time.

I have to downgrade this product due to being not effective. Although Piracetam is considered the granddaddy of racetams, either the real piracetam is not in there or concentration is different, or something else is missing. BTW.,FDA about 6 months ago, in 2010 clamped down on a lot of sellers online for selling this 'food' product. Google for more info. +3 stars for bottle, powder, and label and it didn't kill me, and -2 stars for not being effective.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange but Effective, January 16, 2009

Piracetam is a supplement that has effects on your brain chemistry...Everyone has different cranial quirks, so your mileage may vary. For me, it seemed to improve my concentration and short term memory. The side effects were a bit of a headache in the first few days, easily taken care of with choline and magnesium supplementation. The effects are subtle, and build up over the course of a few weeks.

The powder itself is EXTREMELY bitter. You're going to need a way of getting this into capsules. I would also suggest cycling off of this for a full month for every three months of use. I would highly suggest doing plenty of research on piracetam, as it is a prescription drug in other countries.

4.0 out of 5 stars primaforce PIRACETAM 500 GRAMS LAB TESTED, March 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product is somewhat bitter, and the second nootropic that I have tried, (the other was oxiracetam). I think the oxiracetam worked rather well, and I think this product also works, but oxiracetam (and some of the other racetams), seem rather expensive (even given that the dose is so much smaller).

I was hoping to get a similar effect from this piracetam, and when I made my purchase this looked like the most inexpensive tub of piracetam available (though the tub kinda looks bumble-bee-ish). I figured that just becuase it was inexpensive doesn't mean that is does not work, but apparently folks have been shying away from this product for some reason? Maybe it's the bumble bee-ish looking packaging?

It is probably better not to mix this piracetam supplement simply with water, (or any nootropic for that matter), becuase of the bitter taste, as it seems better suited to tonic water, juice, or something to mask the tase a bit. It might be even wiser to put it in (1-gram) capsules since the product seems to attract water and clump (though it mixes well with water when it ISN'T in clumps).

This caveat, hygroscopicity, may be of no fault of the manufacturers, but keep this property in mind if you don't plan on using quite a bit of this stuff rather quickly. My tub is starting to clump, so I might need to break out my mortar and pestle.

The "normal" or recommended dose listed on the package of piracetam is 3 grams, though I have read stories of some folks using as high as 9 grams in one day. Piracetam is supposedly rather non-toxic, so this seems reasonable, and I noticed no ill effects from such a seemingly large dose on occasion.

I recommend that one keep this product in the fridge, as I've read somewhat that spoilage might occur (likely due to contamination), since the tub comes with a 1 gram scoop that might easily contaminate the entire tub. Given this information, it would seem especially prudent to utilize good (standard) hygenic procedure, for example thorough hand washing, before touching the scoop which is supposed to be placed back inside the container after use.

If the option is available, and doesn't seem like too much trouble, it might be wise to immediately instill the piracetam in 1 gram capsules before it has a chance to clump up. I'm just speaking from expereince, and this is not yet something that I have tried, but I might give it a whirl the next time around.

If the stronger stuff was more affordable, the other similar but more potent nootropics in the piracetam family, I would be purchasing those products instead of this, but for the price this product seems like a reasonable value, given the caveats aforementioned in my review. I give it four out of five stars, and I would probably purchase this product again, especially at the special discount price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helps you study and lose weight?, July 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PRIMAFORCE PIRACETAM 500 GRAMS (Health and Beauty)
I've tried several cognitive enhancers over the last year and this product seems to provide the best immediate effect. My first dose was 3.4 grams and I felt extremely excited and my heart rate went crazy. The second time, I took 3g with 1200 mg of Lecithin. This worked very well for me as the Lecithin counter-acted the excitement I felt due to the Piracetam. I've been taking about 3.5 g a day for the last 2 weeks and in general I feel more aware of my surroundings and much more focused on my work. I used to use adderall, which was prescribed for my ADHD, and this seems to treat my low attention span fairly well without the fatigue or headaches.

In order to test the effectiveness of this product without confirmation bias, I had my girlfriend, who doesn't believe in cognitive enhancers, try this out with me. She took 1.5 g doses with 1200mg of Lecithin twice a day and experienced the same improved awareness and better brain-function I did. However, she had trouble sleeping. She also experienced a loss of appetite combined with a desire for exercise and claims to have lost 4 pounds in the last week which is insane considering that it is 2.5% of her body weight.

However, I don't believe that Piracetam directly works to help you lose weight. I think it gets you excited and energetic enough to go out of your way to work-out.

The powder is extremely bitter so I recommend taking it with Lemonade or orange juice.

It works. It's not an overwhelming "high" feeling. The effects are very subtle. Just be sure to take it with a choline source. Either Choline Bitartrate or Choline Citrate.

4.0 out of 5 stars A valuable supplement, February 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PRIMAFORCE PIRACETAM 500 GRAMS (Health and Beauty)
This product comes as a fine white powder, the correct dosage of which is a little difficult to figure out but which seems to come out to about a half a teaspoon three times a day. It's not the most pleasant thing in the world to take: even dissolved in something as sweet as cranberry juice cocktail it's extremely bitter to the taste and leaves a distinct aftertaste of vomit. All I can say is, you get used to it.

Piracetam has the reputation of increasing mental acuity, at least insofar as helping to overcome the irritating lapses in memory that come with middle age. Personally, I've noticed no mental effect of any sort at all. The physical effect, however, is marked: a distinct feeling of well-being, increased energy and, to some degree, an increase in libido. The product is very helpful in making a daily workout less of a painful chore and more of a pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent racetam; best in a stack., August 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: PRIMAFORCE PIRACETAM 500 GRAMS (Health and Beauty)
For the record, I'm very experienced with supplements and performance-enhancing drugs, but a severe skeptic of any new product or claims...

I've been using piracetam in spurts as part of a daily stack for years (piracetam, choline of various forms, ALCAR is usually the "base" combo for me). Claims of "cognitive enhancement" might be overstated and the "it's very subtle" and "it works differently for everybody" lines, while true in a sense, are really a cover for the fact that if there's nothing acutely wrong with your brain (dementia, etc) you're likely to notice little in the way of effects from piracetam without taking huge doses or combining it with other substances.

The other racetams are usually claimed to be more effective - note that "effective" in the cognitive enhancer industry is equivalent of saying "more stimulating" or "more amphetamine-like" (much like "it's very subtle" is a code word for "it's a placebo effect" :P ). Piracetam is not particularly stimulating, and may in fact cause some light drowsiness; my experience has led me to believe it has little to no effect on energy levels that could be distinguished from a placebo effect.

The bottom line: it mildly helps with memory and perception, and is a good - and relatively inexpensive - addition to a supplement stack. This will not replace or replicate the effects of anything like methylphenidate or an amphetamine; I get as much effect from piracetam as I do drinking a few cups of green tea during the day (also highly recommended as a daily practice), except that Piracetam is non-stimulating. Don't expect it to be of any use as a recreational or "cram session" substance, because it just doesn't work like that; it requires regular dosing over a long period. Also, don't worry about "attack doses" - they're just a way to dose high enough that you can't ignore the side-effects (this indicates you're taking too much), and is generally counterproductive. BUT, it's apparently very safe, provides a little extra clarity to your thinking - especially stacked with ALCAR - and is dirt cheap in bulk... so, why not try it?

Final note: choline supplementation is not required for everybody, and it's not a good idea to add something to the stack "just because"...

Use choline if you get headaches from piracetam (only likely if you're taking high doses, are particularly sensitive, are on other drugs like bupropion that deplete choline sources, or aren't eating right). Choline is easy to get on the cheap - just eat one or two eggs and the headache will go away - no need to buy overpriced pills and stress your kidneys with yet more crappy fillers...
