3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but it's not "Wicked"
I am a new and will continue to be a Sasha White fan. I started with "Wicked", which may have been a mistake since it set the standard in my mind. WHEW!! Prequels to this book, "The Devil Inside" (hot!!) and "The Devil's Jewel" (um, just warm) flow nicely into this latest installment. However, the heat continues to drop. The story is fine- recurring characters, stories...

Drake Wheeler works for a covert group investigating the paranormal. A powerful empath, his talent is more than useful in his line of work. He has been sent to a town called Chadwick to find a person only identified by the name `Sharza'. Neither he nor his team have any idea if Sharza is a first name, last name, or what. He doesn't even know if this person is male or female.

When he encounters sexy bookstore owner Melissa Montrose, he knows something is different about her, but isn't quite sure what. Well, there is that one glaring fact that he finds it impossible to read her mind, but other than that, he can't quite figure her out. He knows one thing, though - he wants to uncover every little secret she has more than he has wanted anything in his life.

Having lost everyone in her family, Melissa is the last of her kind in the town of Chadwick. And if there were another shape shifter in the small town, she would definitely know about it. When hunky Drake wheels into town, she doesn't know what he is up to, but suspects it is something to do with her. It doesn't help a bit that he sends her libido into overdrive.

A grisly murder and subsequent attempts on Melissa's life force Drake and Melissa to work together to uncover the killer before one or both of them wind up the next victim.

PRIMAL MALE is the sequel to Sasha White's erotic romance SEXY DEVIL, both of which have titles sure to grab the attention of romance readers everywhere. Although it is the second book in a series, PRIMAL MALE can easily be read as a standalone novel. I won't try and tell you that you won't want to read SEXY DEVIL after finishing this new book, though, since that would just be a lie. At least, it is for me. *grin*

I've long been a fan of author Sasha White, but have only read her contemporary romances previously. PRIMAL MALE is my first experience with her paranormal stories, and I loved every minute of it. She infuses this story with that sizzling sensuality she is so well-known for, ramping things up even higher with the active libidos that paranormal beings have become known for in the paranormal romance genre.

I fell for Drake from the beginning. He is a man who feels things very deeply, but his empathic talent makes it difficult sometimes for him to recognize when the emotions he is experiencing are solely his own or those of the people near him. That's what makes his relationship with Melissa so special for him. Because he can't read her emotions, he knows that everything he feels when he is with her comes from inside himself, a first for him.

Melissa proves herself a woman worthy of this dynamic hero. Although she is being hunted by a killer, she doesn't hide behind this man, and never hesitates to act in his defense when the situation calls for it.

PRIMAL MALE is the kind of book that plunges you in the story from page one, never slowing the momentum until the final climax has been reached. This is a must-read for lovers of erotic paranormal romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent paranormal romance!, December 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Primal Male (Paperback)
When empath Drake Wheeler goes in search of some down time while looking for a powerful shape shifter, he finds himself in a bookstore in the small town of Chadwick. He quickly decides to mix business with a little pleasure after meeting the store's owner, Melissa Montrose. Melissa is breathtakingly beautiful and he is instantly attracted, but it doesn't take long for him to realize there's much more to Melissa than meets the eye. Melissa is very much alone in the world, except for one close, dear friend. When brutal violence gets a little too close to Melissa for Drake's comfort, he insists that she stay with him. It soon becomes clear that in sticking close to Melissa, Drake is nearer to the elusive shape shifter than he could ever have dreamed.

Despite sharing an undeniably sensual pull towards Drake, Melissa is highly suspicious of him and his motives. The covert group he belongs to has sent him to Chadwick to do some investigational searching for the shape shifting Sharza, although they don't truly know just who, or what, Sharza is. A young shape shifter who has joined this specially gifted group needs knowledge and guidance to make full, positive use of her powers, and they're determined to find someone who can assist as her instructor. Melissa has been fiercely independent for a large portion of her life, and she isn't quick to trust. While she has fallen for Drake and she knows full well that he cares deeply for her, he won't fully open himself up to her, which she finds more than a little frustrating.

Sasha White has yet again proven why she's the undisputed queen of erotic romance. Drake is not your typical tortured hero, and Melissa has had more than her fair share of heartache. They complete each other just by being together, let alone when passions flair. Watching Drake's fall into love is especially nice, and readers will be cheering Melissa as she attempts to bring his true feelings to light. I can't help but give PRIMAL MALE the highest marks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Primal Male, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Primal Male (Paperback)
Drake Wheeler is an empath used to hearing the thoughts of others. When his friend's sister-in-law needs help in learning how to deal with her magical abilities, Drake doesn't hesitate to offer his services. He has a method to his madness because traveling to Chadwick will kill three birds with one stone. Drake will be able to get the information his friend's sister-in-law needs, he will get the clues he needs on shape shifters, and most importantly, he will get some peace and quiet from the rumblings that are constantly in his head. Meeting Melissa Montrose however, rocks his world because she is the person he has ever met that he has been unable to hear thoughts from. He knows she has the information he is looking for but she also has so much more. She has the other half of his heart and he will do anything to keep her and claim her for his very own.

Could Sasha White have written a better story? I don't think so. Primal Male takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. When I thought the energy could not get any more intense, Ms. White ups it a notch until I was on pins and needles. Then there were the love scenes. Those made me shiver in delight at the plethora of scorching and explicitly naughty things that were happening. Drake and Melissa were perfect for each other. Their love sizzled, scorched, and ultimately sucked me in to their lives and I couldn't have asked for more!

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting erotic romantic fantasy, December 5, 2008
This review is from: Primal Male (Paperback)
Empath Drake Wheeler survives by hiding his feelings from the world. However, he worries about teenage Nadya's lack of ability to control her shapeshifting skills.

He has new hopes when he meets purebred shapeshifter Melissa Montrose in her town although she hides her legacy from her neighbors. He wants her to mentor Nadya. However, although attracted to the enigmatic outsider, she does not trust him ever since a hunter murdered her friend for she fears he is the rogue killer. To his shock, the empathic cannot hide his feelings for Melissa and fears for her safety. They need to rely on one another if they are to prevent a killer from murdering again.

The sequel to SEXY DEVIL is an interesting erotic romantic fantasy that lacks the typical non stop action psychic thrillers expected of a Sasha White thriller. Still Drake and Melissa is an interesting match up as she thinks he is a rogue hunter of shapeshifters while the return of the psychic Devlin siblings and their respective soul mates (from SEXY DEVIL) enhance the tale. Although at times too flaccid (except for that male body part), Ms. White's fans will overall enjoy Drake's efforts to persuade Melissa that he is not the menace and they belong together fueled by love in order to stop a psychopath predator from killing again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but it's not "Wicked", May 26, 2009

I am a new and will continue to be a Sasha White fan. I started with "Wicked", which may have been a mistake since it set the standard in my mind. WHEW!! Prequels to this book, "The Devil Inside" (hot!!) and "The Devil's Jewel" (um, just warm) flow nicely into this latest installment. However, the heat continues to drop. The story is fine- recurring characters, stories all tied together- nice. But erotic, not so much.
Setting the luke warm issue aside, this book has the one character flaw that makes me screech. A weak heroine. A weak, "I know better than the trained operative and almost gets them both killed" kind of heroine. Earlier heroines in the series- Jewel and Gina rocked. Sigh.
Thank you Ms. White~ you have a new fan! May I ask ever so nicely for strong heroines with a brass set of their own a la Wicked and the earlier Devil books?? Thank you!
