I'm a huge fan of just about all of Prado's work. Like most, I started with the Rhino disc, which was great. This is probably the best single disc of his earlier work. It lives up to its title. In terms of Prado's signiture combination of stabbing, angular horns, wild rhythm experiments and dashes of madcap musical humor, this is out there!

I'd also recomend the Bear family discs-- especially Havana, 3 a.m./Mambo Mania. But this is really the alpha to the Rhino disc's omega.

I first heard Perez Prado's music as a kid growing up in the late '60s and early '70s. My family was into music and I heard a lot of this type of music at the various dances put on by the local Hispanic community.

Listening to these early releases was truly an eye-opening experience. You get some previews into what would become hits later in his career. The layering of "riffs" and accents can still be heard even today in the music of other artists such as Juan Luis Guerra.

Beny Moré's vocals are a wonderful "easter egg." His greatest hits CD is already on my wish-list.
