Primal Rage is an old classic. It is probably one of the first games to make heavy use of blood (and, beleive me, there is plenty of blood in this game). The game engine is solid and dependable. All of the game's seven fighters are prehistoric creatures, some more plausible than the others. The game sports a mind-boggling array of power moves and an even wider array of the possible combos. The collision system is accurate. The graphics are colorful and beautiful. A single gripe - most of the moves ( especially the combos) require incredible precisely times actions. Believe me, if you ever get the sequence for one of the overkills, you will break a couple of fingers trying to perform it ( ex.: 1+2+3+4 DDDU. Or how about 1+2 DDU +3+4 ATAT? By the ay, all of those are actual functional fatalities.).

A solid game akin to Mortal Kombat, but slower and gorier.

Ahh Primal RAGE. I'm only 23 and this oe takes me back. I still remember the arcade game. I'm not sure how big this game ever got but I ranks it in my top 5 genesis games. Right next t UMK3, and clayfighter. Whats better than an oldschool side scroll fighting game? One that allows you to be a dinosaur full of p*$$ and vinegar. Gamers, collectors this is a must have in the collection.

THIS GAME IS AWESOME it might not be a perfect arcade to console port but its a very good port the graphics arent all that bad for the time the controls are great and the moves are brutal and funny at the same time this game is very enjoyable and at the cost of of a few bucks its the greatest deal you will make in a long time dont pass up this genesis classic

Story: This game actually has a story to it. A fighting game with a story, who knew. The story is: A meteor struck the Earth, and caused great chaos. Seven gods from ancient times awoke, and are now attempting to take control of the post-apocalyptic world. These seven gods are giant dinosaurs and apes which is pretty cool. Now, as one of these crazy blood thirsty monsters, you are set out to conquer the Earth. The story is pretty good in my opinion.

Gameplay: This fighting game is unlike any other fighting game you'll ever play. I say that because you get to fight as dinosaurs and giant apes, how cool is that ? In this game you play as one of seven dinossaurs/apes (five dinosaurs and 2 apes to be exact). You can either play as Diablo, a hellish looking T-rex, Blizzard, a cold blooded killer ape, Sauron, a crazy telepathic T-rex, Talon, a crazy fast and deadly raptor, Vertigo, the poisonous long necked dino, Chaos, a crazy King kong like ape, and Armadon, a vicious crazy triceratops. Well, just like any other fighting game you got your basic moves like you got your high and low attacks. But, instead of punching and kicking like humans do, in Primal Rage you get to tail whip, bite, slash with your claws, and kick slash with your claws too. Mixing some of those moves up add up to some deadly combos. If you do these fast enough you can make your enemy brain dead for a couple of seconds which means they can't move and it's your chance to get more attacks on your opponent which is very helpful. Each character has there own special moves like Blizzard has his Ice breath attack, and Chaos with his weird fart bubble attack which is weird but cool, Sauron has his telekinetic force field, Diablo has his fireball attack which is pretty rad and those are just some of the cool special moves you can pull off. After you have beaten your opponent in two rounds, you can choose to humilliate them by performing a finishing move on them. (like a fatality on mortal kombat). For example, Sauron's Crusher, he just jumps really high in the air and then he just stomps on corpse and turns it into mushy guts. It's a pretty awesome finishing move. Primal Rage has a 2-player versus mode which is pretty fun to whoop your friends at.

Graphics: The graphics look great with it's awesome looking levels like Diablo's level that has the raging volcano is nice to look at as is Armadon's cave level which looks too cool. The dinosaurs/apes themselves just look fantastic. Blood spraying out of your opponent and yourself is just plain brutal and awesome to look at as is watching your opponents heart explode when you just beaten him.

Sound: The music in the game is interesting with its tribal tunes. The roar and yelps of the dinos/apes sound outstanding.

Replay Value: This is one of those fighters that you come back to in like a week or so. The 2-player versus mode well definetly bring you back as well as the single player. All in all it's a great fighting game that should be played from time to time.

lots of these reviews say this game is horrible. it is. it is horrible like call of duty, horrible like mario. honestly this game rocks

Primal Rage is a game is like Mortal Kombat with dinosaurs and giant gorillas. I loved it in the arcade but the Genesis version is horrendous. They graphics are terrible and the animation is very choppy. In fairness, there are games that are just too much for a 16-bit console to handle, and this is one of them. This game is good for some cheap fun for 5 minutes but you'll also be disgusted.

This game seems like it was thrown together to keep as much speed as possible. Back in the early 90s Genesis was the blistering fast system. As per the SEGA gargon. Truth is it was slghtly faster then SNES but couldn't handle the colors. So now was know why they left over half the colors of the orginial. Now we are stock with this thing. They kept most of the moves and all the colors, but doesn't have any intro or ending animation which means it looks half done. Before you defend this game, think of this. Super Street Fighter looked great, but they they just didn't take the time porting this game. And much like Mortal Kombat it looks drab, choppy, and well peiced together.

On the other hand if you are a collector and you want a PR port check out 32X. It is one of the best ports out there. This is one of the most ported games of all time, and the Genesis is one of the ones to try to see how much they took out and how bad it was.

Looks and plays nothing like PC or arcade version and the moves are too complicated. Get MK instead. Terrible.

nobody buy this game, most garbage fighting game in history. should be in the top 5 worst fighting games.
