Editorial Reviews

Review

Note from the author: Primani was my first book and although I loved it dearly, it wasn't my best work. Rather than let Mica and the guys hang about in mediocrity, I completely revised the original book to make it as bright and shiny as the rest of the series. My amazing editor has scrubbed it for lingering errors and polished the pacing. If you previously downloaded it, ask your Kindle to re-load it so you can read the latest and greatest version. The new version was available on 30 June 2015.

"The author mixes the romance with special ops and the paranormal, making a suspenseful romantic thriller, with a battle of good versus evil. If paranormal romances and urban fantasies with angels and demons are your thing, then you will enjoy this book. Just don't be surprised if you end up staying up most of the night, wanting to finish it." -- I Smell Sheep Reviews

"This steady-paced plot keeps spine-tingling tension building with lots of suspense, drama action and romance. The author describes the scenes and events with well-written details that capture the imagination and strong compelling characters that grab the reader's attention from the very beginning... There are lots of captivating characters that add lots of depth and spice to the story and have the reader wanting to know more."  -- The Romance Reviews

"Oh My God! I loved this book! This is the type of book I wish I could just read forever.... kinda like a never ending story... The characters are so well developed they practically jump off the page and walk around your living room!" -- My Tangled Skeins Book Reviews

More About the Author

Hi! I'm Laurie Olerich and writing is my passion. I love to create guilty pleasures full of exciting locations, rollercoaster action, strong, quirky heroines, and steaming hot heroes who'll raise the temperature in any room you're in! Paranormal romance? Check! Urban fantasy? Check! Romantic suspense? Check! My Primani series combines the best of the three. When I'm not plotting, writing, or fantasizing about my next hero, I'm planning parties, traveling, and spending lazy nights with my son, my Dal pals, and my friends. Thank you so much for taking a chance on a new author and picking up my story! I hope you'll fall in love with the Primani world as much as I have. If you'd like to get to know me better and keep up with my works in progress, look me up on the Internet. I'd love to hear from you!

Mica's mother has died and she has to leave the place she has lived all her life and move to her father's home with his second family. She is not happy about it. Being rescued after being attacked by a boy from school, Mica's life changes. Who are these protectors? Why is she changing after being around these men? I loved this book. It's the first of a series. Something is happening to Mica and she is gaining these abilities but her protectors (Sean, Declan, and Killian) do not know why. When she discovers that evil walks this earth and these men stand between it and humans, she wants to help especially since it seems her powers make her strong as well as these men when they are with her. I love Mica, Sean, Declan, and Killian. I don't know what they are, only that they are the good guys. I like Mica's friends and family. Scott, her attacker, was a believable villain. He is creepy and malicious along with his friends. They are also dumb and do not learn quickly. I'm looking forward to when they do learn their lesson. I also look forward to reading the rest of this series. Questions need to answered.

Laurie Olerich’s Primani, first in a series of plucky, angel, action adventure novels is a fun, hopeful yarn. Mica Thomas is an above average girl in a world of hurt. Primani opens as she is assaulted by a small town psychopath. She’s nearly finished off in the novel’s first quarter, which sees her through the early stages of recovery from rape and assault. And who better to help her recover in the world than Sean O’ Cahan, a handsome, hunky, ripped, Irish young man who has arrived from out of town as Mica gets her feet underneath her? Sean and his buddies are not what they seem, and in the early stages where Mica and her friends lust over their finely sculpted bodies and pine for sexual release, Sean and his friends remain distant from the girls who lust after them. They offer distraction, safety, and mystery to Mica who only wishes for life to move forward. To forget about the recent violent past. The tension is palpable, and as Mica’s fate rushes towards a second encounter with her assailant, Sean and his buddies reveal they are more than human.

Sean’s buddies, Dec, the protective one, and Killian, the strongest, and most aggressive, do not approve of Sean’s affection towards Mica, as the three carry themselves like trained special ops about upstate New York. And, as the narrative unfolds, are trained ops, just not of the human variety, they are Primani, soldiers of the first legion, and through a physical and romantic connection between Sean and Mica, Mica learns the truth, and sees the world through the eyes of the soldiers, quite literally, as she gains psychic powers.

Olerich’s gift is expressing the sensuality of the characters, as Mica’s body drives her character through much of the novel.

I finished this book today and was thrilled with how good it was. I usually give a new author a little leeway in developing the story and getting their writing style down not to mention the usually less than stellar editing and I am happy to report that I didn't need any of that leeway with this book. The story line with Mica and the boys was actually very tight. It was interesting from the start and the development on Ms. Olerich's world was smooth. It felt very intuitive and I was glad she didn't spoon feed the world setup to us. As most of the characters were human or humanoid, I didn't feel that extensive descriptors to set it all up were necessary and would have bogged down the story. And the editing was as good as that of many authors with several books under their belt.

The story was fun, moved quickly but the story line had a lot of meat to it. Mica was a strong female, Sean, Dec and Killian were all very interesting characters with wonderfully unique traits and I loved each of them in their own way. Mica's friends were great and I even loved her dog (though I sensed there was more to that!).

The romance was lovely and there was lots of funny moments too. It was a truly enjoyable read and I have already bought the second book in the series as I want to see where Ms. Olerich takes this story and these characters. I am curious about the growth I expect to see in Mica so I can't wait to start the next book.

The author's power of desciption is awesome; the reader can see, hear, and even smell the sights and sounds of the north-east. And her use of character development is exceptional. I was hooked from the opening funeral scene. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, book 2 arrived!

Two pages in and I was hooked! My heart broke for poor Mica at the loss of her mother and everything and everyone familiar in her world but she didn’t let that slow her down for long! Mica soon shines as she discovers how strong she really is all while trying to deal with the bittersweet vulnerability of being young and having gone through some major traumas. You can’t help but fall in love with her. Mica is eternally optimistic and feisty and only comes with two speeds, full steam ahead and faster. The rest of her crew and the Primani all just try and keep up. The story is non-stop action as Mica jumps from one misadventure to the next with Sean, Killian, Dec…steamy hot guys with epic powers all at her beck and call. Yet the plot reveal about the Primani is wonderfully slow letting you wonder. The romance is deep, intense and passionate but despite some nice and spicy scenes, is about the relationship and the romance. It always leaves you longing for more. It was a wonderful read. I devoured the book in under two days getting absolutely nothing else useful done during that time because I was so engrossed and spellbound! Loved the book! Get it! You won’t be able to put it down!
