Book Description

December 1, 1999
A group of hard-line Communists has devised a strategy to return the once-powerful Soviet Union to its former glory. In league with the most ruthless militant extremists of the Middle East, they will hatch a plot to eliminate the one person with the power to stop them -- the President of the United States....

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Weber weaves a frighteningly real story of international terrorism in America in his newest thriller. A ruthless group of Russian communists teams up with militant extremists in the Middle East to concoct a plan that will restore the former Soviet Union to its old prominence by removing U.S. presence in the Persian Gulf and creating an oil shortage. When U.S. President Cord Macklin refuses to leave the region--even after a series of military air and sea maneuvers involving a grand cast of Soviets, Muslims and Americans--he becomes an assassination target. Iranian terrorist Khaliq Farkas heads the effort, going after Macklin when he's aboard Air Force One and effectively declaring war in America's skies. After a deadly series of Farkas-orchestrated commercial air disasters--including two involving Air Force One--sends the country into a panic, Macklin emerges unscathed and stifles further attacks with round-the-clock bombings of Middle East and Soviet military targets and civilian infrastructure. Weber (Honorable Enemies) colors his novel with numerous subplots, well-developed characters and historical references to Operation Desert Storm and the Iranian hostage crisis. His knowledge of weapons, military aircraft and terrorist tactics is superior, and a surprise ending teases readers with the tempting possibility of a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting From Beginning to End, October 9, 2000

Never having read Joe Weber before I was a little dubious about the chance of his stories living up to other techno-military authors. Joe's book was gripping from the beginning page, excellently written with a story line that given todays global issues could certainly become true. Get this book today and you will not be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Action At Full Military Power", May 1, 2000
This review is from: Primary Target (Paperback)
A stellar action novel! Hard-line Russians team up with Iranian-backed terrorists to bring chaos to the U.S., culminating with an assassination attempt on the President. The action scenes are masterfully done. Great drama leading up to the first airliner crash. The massive air/sea battle in the Persian Gulf was incredible. Very fast-paced and exciting. What happens at the Atlanta airport when everything goes to crud with Air Force One coming in is crush the armrest dramatic. Cord Macklin is the kind of President this country needs! Take charge fighter pilot-type that will push back when pushed too far. And what a push he delivers. Rest of the character development is OK. In some areas the dialogue didn't seem natural. But overall, Grade-A awesome book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A non-stop action book, May 19, 2000

I had never read a Joe Weber book before. After reading this book I will be looking for more of his works. This book has the two forces of evil joining forces, the Soviet Union and Iran. This makes for an exciting read. Terrorist acts break loose all over the Unites States. The President bombs every terrorist cell that can be named. There is also an ultimate villain with the terrorist who is still alvie when the book ends. Hopefully this means that there will be a sequel. A very well writtem amd exciting book. You will be the loser if you miss this one.
