5.0 out of 5 stars Works great - rubber insert is the key
I tried another brand with a wedge-shaped insert, but while it seemed like it gripped solidly, as soon as I slid the window into it, it just gave way really easily. These ones do not - the rubber insert ensures it sticks pretty solidly. Can tighten by hand if you have a strong grip, but a pair of pliers is needed to ensure a tight grip. Not a problem at all. 1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money. Doesn't secure a thing.
Bought several of these as I have many, many windows that needed securing from my children. I put a few on some windows and tested their effectiveness. I was able to slide the window right up without much effort. The "lock" just slid up the vinyl framing. Now, I have over 16 of these things in a drawer. Better off putting them in the trash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good device, but size should be corrected, November 26, 2009

Description states that its size should fit up to 1/4", but this is not correct. It was about 1 mm less than that, so my hubby had to file it a little so the lock could be used. Otherwise - works great, if size is right. Measure your windows carefully - if they are exactly 1/4" or more - this would be too big for this particular lock.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for wide tracks, August 12, 2011

It says it fits wide tracks. It sure didn't fit mine. The opening was only 1/4 of an inch, which is the size of the standard narrow one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but didn't fit my window frames, June 26, 2010

They were well manufactured and arrived as described, but unfortunately did not fit in the tracks of my modern, wooden double hung, double paned windows. Gave them to a neighbor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not work on my windows, June 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Prime-Line PRODUCTS/SLIDE-CO U 10551 SLIDING WINDOW LOCK (Misc.)
I bought a pair to see how they would work, but the locks do not fit in my windows (I have a brand new house with standard Alside windows). The description shows that the lock has a 6 mm clearance, but it's actually about 5.5 mm between the metal sides, and only 3 mm between the rubber sides. Since my windows are about 6.5 mm (on the edge and 6 past the edge), I could not attach them. $6.20 (price+s&h) is not a lot of money, but I wish I spent them on something else.

These work well, fit my window, and hold tightly. For the low price these are a good deal. I use them in conjunction other items for the windows...

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, doesn't damage window sills, January 10, 2010

This lock holds very snugly. I use two per window because I'm a bit paranoid but one would probably work fine. As noted before its only going to work on a thin window sill, especially if you leave the rubber insert in.

There is another model that comes without the rubber insert but I recommend this one because the rubber prevents any marring of the window sill, which is important if you are renting and want you whole deposit back when you move. I did notice that when I did move 2 years after installing these that the rubber had cracked where the tightening screw goes. But for the price I don't think I can complain, because it still works.

This product might fit your sliding window, but it did not fit mine. When I e-mailed the manufacturer, I received a rude e-mail back accusing me of not reading the description properly. I do not recommend this product or this seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on new plastic sash type windows, October 21, 2011

This only works on an aluminium track window. This item was too small to fit onto the track of the newer plastic, sash type windows that open up the way.
