I get lazy sometimes and let them sit in water and they get a few waterspots but that's easily removed by barkeepers friend or perhaps just some soap and water.
I'd highly recommend this product.
The two smaller bowls perfectly-sized for mise en place and are also helpful when you need to peel a head of garlic quickly. Just pull the cloves apart and pop them, unpeeled, into the smallest bowl. Top it with the next-smallest bowl and, holding the rims together with your fingers, shake them up and down like crazy for 30 seconds. Boom, your cloves are peeled and your hands don't stink!
Those who are complaining about the sizes of the bowls, my package clearly reads .75, 1.5, 3 and 5 quarts (that is 3, 6, 12 & 20 cups ). They hold the capacity indicated. However, that is not the capacity at which they ought to be used. Just as you don't fill a Dutch oven, soup pot or slow cooker to its maximum capacity, neither should you fill a mixing bowl to its maximum capacity. Rather, you should rely on about 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the stated capacity for food prep - 1/2 if a very liquid item is being prepared. The product description states that the capacities 1, 1.5, 3, and 5-quarts. The only error is for the smallest bowl.
Now, one bowl is already looking a bit worse for wear...BUT I routinely use a hand blender in it. It was a sharp learning curve on how to not mar the interior of the bowl while angling the blender. Happily, I have had no problem with keeping the other three bowls looking new. One element that I appreciate is that I find plastic wrap seals and clings better to the mirror finish of these bowls than it does to the satin finish on the bowl for my stand mixer - and the fairly wide lip makes applying the wrap easier as well. This is very nice when you need to chill a recipe before proceeding and you want to protect the contents of the bowl from picking up off odors/flavors in the refrigerator.
Yes, there are nicer quality sets of nested mixing bowl available in a variety of materials. However, these bowls are sturdy, attractive and utilitarian at a very low price for a set.Read more ›
