After seeing Eric Alexander in Detroit, I was hoping a dvd concert would be released of a live performance. Alexander is a fantatic sax player, and pianist Hazeltine, drummer Joe Farnsworth (a favorite of mine) and bassist Webber provide an excellent rhythm section. Don't expect fancy lights and overdone nonsense. This is a straight-ahead performance that allows the viewer to observe great musicians doing there thing. GREAT work!!!

This was a great deal. You get a CD & a DVD. I became an Eric Alexander fan about a year ago. This is my third CD by Eric and it's live. If you are a Sax fan, this is a must. I am 70 years old and have seen an herd all the great ones and Eric is right up there with the greats.

What a Bargain! See and Hear The Greatest Living Tenor Sax Player,
By jazz lover since 1960 (Tampa, Fl. and Franklin, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prime Time (W/Dvd) (Audio CD)
I'm sorry I missed this great concert by the greatest living tenor sax player. I know that you can argue that there are other tenor players worthy of that title, but that is my opinion.
I have attended several other first rate concerts presented by the good people at the Western North Carolina Jazz Society in Asheville, NC. I have seen Eric live and own several of his CD's. It is a joy to be able to not only hear Eric and his group on CD, but also to get a DVD of the concert from 2007 in this package. The picture and sound are very good. The rest of the quartet include Dave Hazeltine, piano; John Webber, bass; and the fantastic Joe Farnsworth on drums. Joe and Eric, especially, seem to channel the music of the great jazz artists from the 1960's and 1970's with uncanny accuracy. The program consists of mostly originals from members of the quartet. Hazeltine and Alexander contribute most of them, and they are fine compositions. "Nemesis" and "Little Lucas" are among my favorites. If you have not heard (or seen) Eric, this is a great place to begin.
