We are all on the same journey, hoping to arrive at a later point in our lives where we are content and healthy. Our emotional health can be greatly enhanced by Dr. Schaupp's research and it's comforting and inspiring implications. 5.0 out of 5 stars make time for prime time, July 16, 2008
This review is from: Prime Time: Flourishing After 60 (Hardcover)
Dr. Diane Schaupp has written an engaging and optimistic book about our potential to shape our destiny after age 60. Although we may feel trapped by past decisions and habits, we have the freedom to make new choices. As a practicing therapist for many years, Dr. Schaupp has amassed the experience and wisdom to offer wise counsel about aging. I found particularly helpful her recommendations to focusing on our strengths and on the positive without denying our current reality.

Prime Time: Flourishing After 60 has a strong appeal to those who are professionals and individuals actively involved in their communities who wish to maintain their interdependence and dignity. Dr. Schaupp shows how aging does not mean losing control over one's future, but how with planning and forethought, one can still live a fulfilling and meaningful life with style and grace. Dr. Schaupp's coping strategies empower and inspire one in preparing for "elderhood."

5.0 out of 5 stars Prime Time is prime reading, May 23, 2008
This review is from: Prime Time: Flourishing After 60 (Hardcover)
"Dr. Schaupp indicates that the aging process offers a unique opportunity for self-reflection, self-fulfillment, and unrealized potential in a life we can create with the requisite tools and determination. She offers specific guidelines and suggestions on how to take control of one's life in the advancing years. In fact, one of the most attractive aspects of PRIME TIME is its uplifting philosophy, clearly demonstrating how the elderly can create for themselves a spirit of renewal and change, empowering themselves to cope with the challenges of aging with courage and grace."

While most men wouldn't be caught dead with a self-help book, this one is worth buying secretly because it asks and answers the most dreaded question--how can I enjoy getting old. There are no tips here on fishing holes or golf scores. Instead there are well defined steps in understanding your life to date in ways impossible before and using that wisdom to shape your future to provide the ultimate goal--satisfaction.

This review is from: Prime Time: Flourishing After 60 (Hardcover)
A great book! This is not a book about diet or exercise. This is about the psychological challenges we face as we age and the changes we need to be prepared to make in order to live meaningful and rich lives. Dr. Schaupp guides her readers through the process of change, emphasizing self-acceptance, connection, and personal adaptability. After reading this book, I am encouraged and even excited about the possibilities for growth that lie ahead.

A great perspective on aging. I learned that I have the power to make changes now so that I can enjoy the next stage of my life -- both physically and emotionally. Getting old isn't as bad as I thought if I continue to grow and add meaning to my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prime Time, May 28, 2008
Dr. Schaupp indentifies three developmental stages of aging which blueprint a psychological journey from the inevitable confusion that sets in some where around 60 through the physical challanges of early elderhood into the acceptance of the inevitable dependencies of the final years. One of the most attractive features of PRIME TIME is its hopeful and exciting tone, which encourages the creation of new goals, new perspectives, and meaning, along with an acceptance of life's inevitable changes. The reader may leave this book with a spirit of renewed optimism, courage and a belief the on-going capacity for happiness, acceptance ,grace and meaning in life.
