Book Description

January 1, 1997 0893342718 978-0893342715
Most contemporary counseling techniques are based upon the tenets of Adlerian psychology. This book balances theory and practical application for easy use by counselors, therapists, and others who need to understand and communicate with young children. Children are perceived as individuals with the creative capacities to decide and choose according to their private logic. Some concepts included are: active, passive, constructive, and destructive behavior patterns; the four goals of misbehavior; punishment vs. logical consequences; and personality/ life style development.

5.0 out of 5 stars Common sense discipline - no spanking!, September 3, 2000

This review is from: A Primer on Adlerian Psychology (Paperback)
I discovered Adlerian Psychology by reading this book in college, long before I decided to have children. It shows that children are logical despite their immaturity, and you can discipline by proving to them that every action has a consequence. Just be consistent! My husband and I can't wait to use these techniques for our first child.
