I am a medicine resident interested in nephrology. This book starts out with the basics of renal anatomy/physiology, approach to patients with kidney disease, and goes on to define/classify, and provide an outline for diagnosis/therapy of common kidney disorders. Its depth suits perfectly medicine residents, and probably, as others have mentioned, fellows starting their training. Those looking for a more in-depth text might consider Johnson&Feehaly's Comprehensive Clinical nephrology.

If you are looking for a comprehensive introduction to kidney disease as a resident - this is the book. It has as much information as you would want as a resident (probably more than you want!). Great reference for renal fellows who are just starting out.

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in Nephrology. It has excellent illustrations and covers most topics thouroughly. However, transplant section and hypertension could have been better.Most of all it is not expensive!

This is going to be a short review.

Although I studied this book for the nephrology boards, I highly recommend that all nephrology fellows finish it in the first few months of fellowship. This is an NKF publication that will provide a solid overview of kidney disease.. You will have to buy Johnson and Fehally naturally, but that is a big book that will you be reading over and over during your career. Start with this little (560 pages or so) book at a rate of a chapter a day (5-10 pages)

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT BOOK ON NEPHROLOGY, IT'S CONCISE AND VERY WELL ILLUSTRATED, PROBABLY THE BEST INTRODUCTORY BOOK ON NEPHROLOGY, BUT PROBABLY NOT AS COMPREHENSIVE AS THOSE 100 LB BOOKS.

An old classic made new, with interesting data and great pictures.
The shipping was spot on, and it was in excellent conditions.
I'd recommend it to a friend!

the primer is written by several different individual doctors, so some chapters are well written, while others aren't. it's also hard to follow because some concepts are defined slightly different than others.

I think its a very good book for IM residents in general and for those who aspir to become Nephrology fellow in particular.
I would highly recommend it to every first year fellow as a starting book and then shift to other books...
It is not too detailed and very uptodate and by NKF and best of all it is not $300 ...it only $40.
Paper is glossy and figures are good.

This is a great overview of nephrology for any medical resident, general practitioner or even a renal fellow. Lots of images, tables and graphics enhance the reading experience. I wish I had known that a new updated version would come out in a few weeks, then I would have waited a little longer with my purchase.

Thanks for producing a medical book that does not cost $200 +. This will help my husband, a Family Practice Physician, and myself, a Registered Dietitian. Thanks.
