5.0 out of 5 stars Grown and developed over the years
I may be a little biased. I have known the Mccoy brothers for quite some time and have been pleasantly surprised by the way their music has grown and expanded over the years. I had their first cd and if you play the two, you'd never know they were the same band. Of course, several of the members have changed. To top it off with, they are also quite easy on the eyes...

1.0 out of 5 stars this is a joke right???
i saw these guys open up for sevendust and i thought they were kidding me.i figured the real band would come on stage and start playing.nope.instead i had to suffer through the enigma that was bobaflex-nearly 30 minutes of suffering and awful offbeat rapping and "hey,ha's" from every freaking member of the band.they were so sexually oriented with each other it oculd make...

I had their first cd and if you play the two, you'd never know they were the same band. Of course, several of the members have changed. To top it off with, they are also quite easy on the eyes (just take a look at Shaun). These guys are extremely talented on the guitar, and great writers. I have great anticipation for the next album...MASON COUNTY RULEZ!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow what a surprise!, February 16, 2004
This review is from: Primitive Epic (Audio CD)
Well I went to The Rock Nightclub in Maplewood, Minnesota last night to see a local band called Five Ounces. After they played, this band who I had never heard of took the stage.. This band was Bobaflex... Wow... Their music was hard and intense, their performance was insanely energetic, these guys flatout rocked. From the first song to the last, they gave it everything they had and the crowd loved it. As soon as they played the last note of their last song I rushed over to their table and bought the Primitive Epic CD. And while it lacks the raw intensity of their live show and at times even seems much more mellow than what they did on stage, this is still an amazing CD. I just hope I get a chance to see these guys live again real soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A call to arms, October 21, 2003
This review is from: Primitive Epic (Audio CD)
Just as the rap-rock scene is winding down, Bobaflex come forth with a unique twist on a watered down genre. Not only do they add more crunch to the sound, but they cover atypical topics in their lyrics. Bobaflex call their troops to order on "Bobaflex Warriors". This militant anthem, complete with hail chants, explains that the warriors are meant to protect the New Humans, which are a non-violent group, unlike their forefathers. Within the lyrics Bobaflex advises the listener "within this album hides a code". "Midnight Nation" starts off with a somber guitar interlude, but pounds your speakers with heavy riffs and angry vocals shortly thereafter. Addiction takes center stage on "Medicine". This guitar driven track will have you jumping in place, as Bobaflex wages a lyrical war on those who block out painful memories with drugs.

A carnival like atmosphere is set with the opening piano on "Tears Drop". It's the story of a 300 year old being that is reflecting on all the people he's lost over the years. "The Predicament" is aptly titled. Sounding a little like Eminem on this track, Bobaflex tells the tale of two lovers returning from a drug pick up. They get stopped by the Police and the girlfriend offers her body to help set them free. When was the last time you heard something like that on the radio? Drawing from events from today's headlines, the group turns up the potency on "Turn the Heat Up". The album ends with a melodic and hardcore vocal battle on "Doomwalker". Once again the McCoy brothers return to their sci-fi influences as aliens attack the world and kill us all.

Bottom Line:
Heavy music, with a complex message. Bobaflex's brand of rap-rock has more balls than some of the watered-down crap on the radio. The dual vocals, one melodic, one hardcore, help add dimension to the music. No one can accuse them of being unoriginal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Band with spectacular live performance, March 24, 2005

I saw these guys at 10 Bells in Grand Rapids Michigan and they rock. It is true that one of the guitarist is a little strange, at one point was drooling on himself, they do have some strange comments about their music and they do act a little "friendly" with each other. However none of that has any effect on how the sound of the music, isn't that what people want to know in a review. They have a good range of heavy and mellow and in some instance in the same songs with lots of nice riffs. As soon as I heard "Midnight Nation" I was hooked. The entire cd is worth listening to if you're a fan of heavier music. I strongly recommend checking out this cd and the band if they come to your neck of the woods.

I first heard of this band when I went to see another kick @ss band (S.O.R.E.) play at the Rave and since a friend of mine is S.O.R.E.'s manager I was hanging out with these guys backstage. It was my first time meeting both Bobaflex and S.O.R.E. and let me tell you they were totally cool. I sure as hell didn't expect the guy's I was just drinking beer with to go out and totally rock but they totally blew away the crowd ( my self included ). I own this cd and love it, definately buy it. And while your at it check out www.sore-s5.com to check out another kick @ss band.

Bobaflex, the best thing to hit the stage since SOAD. From Point Pleasent, WV, home of the Mothman Prophecies, comes a band that mixes such bands as Queen and SOAD. They have a very original sound. On Eclipse Records comes their national debut, Primitive Epic. They have a great stage presence, among other band that just stand there. Check them out online at www.bobaflex.net. Where my warriors at!

I saw these guys easter 2k3 at a local bar. Never heard of them before and I was blown away. Great stage presence and an AMAZING sound. If you like System of a Down or Papa Roach or anything along those lines, BobaFlex's Primitive Epic is worth the money. The McCoy bro's switch up on most every song between vocals and guitar and they're great. The songs they've put together may not be lengthy enough, but altogether this is a must have for anyone into Newer Metal/Hard Rock/Rap Rock. These guys flat out know how to make good music and I guarantee they'll rock your socks off
