Book Description

August 20, 2001

The Stone Age is the common denominator of mankind, and through experimental archeology-the relearning and replication of ancient skills-we take a step of discovery and understanding into this rich past. In this collection, drawn from the pages of the Bulletin of Primitive Technology, learn to create tools to fabricate more complex technologies; master the arts of the bow and arrow; build a shelter or fashion clothing from fibers or buckskin. < /p>

Primitive Technology II: Ancestral Skills provides the guide to rediscovery of the skills and crafts that bind us all into this great human family. < /p>

David Wescott is author of Camping in the Old Style and editor of Primitive Technology: A Book of Earth Skills. Formerly education director for the Boulder Outdoor School, he has been a leading figure in wilderness education for more than thirty years. He lives with his wife in Rexburg, Idaho.

This review is from: Primitive Technology II: Ancestral Skill - From the Society of Primitive Technology (Paperback)
This book together with the first book: A Book of Earth Skills from the same author, will show you nearly everything you need to know on primitive technology.
Buy the " Naked into the Wilderness" books written by the McPhersons as well and your library on the subject is complete.
No better books available then these four!!

I recently purchased Primitive Tech. and Primitive Tech II as a set. The information found in these books are priceless! These two books alone could keep you busy this life time and into the next. A great foundation of resourses into learning to live with the land and the resourses that are found around you. Just the historical aspect of the books are worth a read!

I work in the outdoor education and primitive technology field and can personally account for the quality instruction offered by many of the authors in this work. I am a contributing writer to the Bulletin of Primitive Technology and am proud to be a part of the preservation and proliferation of ancient skills and wisdom. Less for the "survival situation" -- though certainly important! -- and moreso for the honest self-reflection found within the integrity of these arts, I recommend the study of earthskills.
