5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Call
Very simple to use and has great volume and realistic sound. Being able to attach it to your arm is a nice feature when you are drawn and waiting for an open shot and just need to give a light grunt to keep him looking for you. The wheeze and snort features have the potential to be great attention getters, but I have not had the opportunity to use them yet. I have...

1.0 out of 5 stars So called Buck Call
Primos Buck Roar Call..When I received my buck call I thought it sounded great. Thought it was gonna bring in the big one this year. Well let me tell you, it worked great in my warm living room and that was it. When deer season came and the weather was cooler it sucked. You could get maybe 1 or 2 calls before it sounded like a sick animal. If you waited a half our or so...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Call, January 12, 2012

Very simple to use and has great volume and realistic sound. Being able to attach it to your arm is a nice feature when you are drawn and waiting for an open shot and just need to give a light grunt to keep him looking for you. The wheeze and snort features have the potential to be great attention getters, but I have not had the opportunity to use them yet. I have noticed no significant difference in sound because the temperature dropped. I can't imagine what would cause that unless the user is slobbering in it. Even though it is a bit big I would definitely recommend this call.

I used this skeptical that it could be any better than any other call. Many online forums mentioned this product. I tried it and was impressed overall. You can blow into as hard as you like and it still produces a good sound. I have used it on cold days and it doesn't stick. The compass works, but I do not depend on it. Overall a great product.

The buck roar worked. Nothing happening at 3:30 in the afternoon. A couple of quick grunts and in the buck comes! Then down he went.

After hearing a buck grunt while hunting a couple of weeks ago, I went looking around for a solution to try to bring him in. This is the first season I am experimenting in a big way with scents, but that just didn't seem aggressive enough. What I needed was a call.

Some internet research led me to look at the Buck Roar. Now, I'm a waterfowler too, and can appreciate the exquisite beauty of a well made call (and lord knows, I have plenty made by Primos) and the glory of communicating with an incoming flock of ducks.

But this was deer I was looking at. Basically, I didn't think it would ever work.
Took it out mid week for a bit and played around with it, and got no where, and chalked the purchase up as simply another worthless hunting gimmick.

Today was the opener of Virginia's muzzleloader season, and when I headed out to the stand, I left the Buck Roar in my truck. 2 hours out, the sun is up and there's not a deer to be seen in any of the fields I'm hunting. I head back to the truck, ready to head home, but decide to grab the Roar and play with it a bit, while I explore the new property I'm hunting. Find a remote corner of the field, at the top of the hill, and sit down with my back against an old fence post hidden by some thorn bushes, and a breathtaking view of the valley before me. I blow on the roar.

and wait.

Couple of minutes later, I hear a much louder roar coming from the woods to my left. I blow again, this time more forcefully, and then throw in a wheeze and a huff. Immediately, I hear the same roar come back, this time louder and closer. I wait a couple more minutes, and do it again. As soon as I roar, I hear movement, and then through the bushes see the face of a nice mature 8 point buck looking straight at me.

I freeze. He looks around, and jumps the fence, and starts looking for the deer that challenges him. Standing 6 yards from me, staring straight at me (I was frozen still, with my gun on the ground) he is so enraged he doesn't notice me, as he hunts for the buck he was communicating with.

At this point, I got a bit nervous, cause he's a big boy and could do a bit of harm. But he turned, and continued searching, ultimately presenting himself for a shot.

A fantastic experience. An incredible call. I am hooked and convinced that I have no better tool in my hunting arsenal than the Primos Buck Roar. Wow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best call I have owned, January 9, 2007

This call has a lot of great features that really come in handy in the woods. First the rubber housing doesn't make any noise if it accidentally hits something metal like your tree stand, a problem I frequently had with other grunt calls. I find myself checking the compass often to mark wind direction and points of interest from the stand.

The sound from the call is very unique and can be manipulated for lower or higher pitched sounds as well as the "roar" sound that it is designed for. I also like the availability of the snort-wheeze on the same tube. The instructional DVD is a useful tool to learn how to use it before heading out to the woods.

I would recommend this call to anyone looking for the best product on the market.

I'm talking like 30 degrees and up. Very very dissapointed. Thought I finally for a great replacement for the best buck call I ever had that I lost several years ago. have 8 or 10 calls to my name and now I have to try to fing another one and hope it works in cool weather as good as it does in warm weather. Very Very disappointed. Sorry, I'm only tell the truth:)It turned out to be a real Heart Breaker:(

5.0 out of 5 stars This call works !, November 9, 2011
This review is from: Primos Buck Roar Call (Sports)
We used this grunt call the first day of youth season in MO { 11/05/11 } and had very good luck. We had deer respond to it on 4 different ocassions in one day. It has a wide range in tone , can be very loud if you want. The rubber material will not clang if you hit your stand. My 9 year old boy had a 8 point buck by 4 pm on opening day.
Unfortunately my dog ROCKO ate my first one. Will reorder soon!

If you want to pull them in you must use the roar aggressively. Seems to pull any passer by out of curiousity. JUST BE READY.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT SO GOOD, November 14, 2011
This review is from: Primos Buck Roar Call (Sports)
This call is not that good. It is massive, it is bulky hard plastic, and is not silent like some of the rubber calls out there. It makes a okay grunt sound but has not been effective enough for me to want to carry it into the woods. I wish I would have found something smaller or gone without.
