The Very Best Of Jerry Wallace? I don't think so!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Primrose Lane: Very Best of (Audio CD)
I'm always cautious about cds that label themselves as "The Very Best Of". Many times the problem lies with what is omitted. I would like to have seen "Shutters and Boards","There She Goes" and "Life's A Holiday" included. Another problem is the engineering. "How The Time Flies" has Jerry's voice at faster than normal speed. My hope is that someone who cares about Jerry's music will obtain his Challenge catalog and produce a decent collection of his hits.

Can't Understand The 4 and 5 Star Reviews,
By AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Primrose Lane: Very Best of (Audio CD)
How can anyone rate a CD with 4 or 5 stars that blares "THE VERY BEST OF" for an artist that had 13 Billboard Hot 100 singles, three of which also made the Adult Contemporary Charts (AC) and two the R&B charts, to go along with 33 Country hits, and then is rounded off with tunes that were either uncharted flipsides or songs that few, if any, ever heard before?
When you look at his legitimate hits the producer of this CD had 46 different songs to choose from. So what did he do? Gives you all of FOUR legitimate hits among 24 tracks: How The Time Flies [# 11 Hot 100 and R&B in 1958]; Primrose Lane [# 8 Hot 100/# 12 R&B 1959]; In The Misty Moonlight [# 2 AC and # 19 Hot 100 in 1964]; Even The Bad Times Are Good (a version of which reached # 74 Country in 1970 - another version made it to # 114 on the Billboard Hot 100 "Bubble Under" charts in 1964). They also include uncharted B-sides such as With This Ring which backed How The Time Flies, as well as All My Love Belongs To You (b/o Diamond Ring, a # 78 Hot 100 in 1958), Teardrop In The Rain (b/o Swingin' Down The Lane, a # 79 Hot 100 in 1960); I Can See An Angel Walking (b/o Life's A Holiday, a # 91 Hot 100 in 1961); and What's He Doin' In My World (b/o his only # 1 Country, If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry, which also reached # 38 H0t 100 in 1972). But of course, none of the hit sides are included! What are they saying? That we fans didn't get it right the first time around? Others left off include A Touch Of Pink [# 92 Hot 100 in 1959], Little Coco Palm [# 36 Hot 100 in 1960], There She Goes [# 26 Hot 100 in 1961], Shutters And Boards [# 24 Hot 100 in 1962 and written by America's most-decorated war hero, Audie Murphy], and It's A Cotton Candy World [# 99 Hot 100 in 1964], along with many Country hits, the best of which were the 1972/73 # 2 Do You Know What It's Like To Be Lonesome, 1973's # 3 Don't Give Up On Me, and 1974's # 9 My Wife's House. Stay away from this unless you're a devoted, die-hard Jerry Wallace fan who doesn't care if you're being flim-flammed.

THE MALE COUNTERPART TO PATSY CLINE,
This review is from: Primrose Lane: Very Best of (Audio CD)
I LOVE TO HEAR JERRY WALLACE. HE IS COUNTRY AND 50'S-60'S POP COMBINED. VERY PLEASING AND CLEAN TO THE EAR HE IS THE MALE COUNTERPART TO PATSY CLINE.WE ARE OF COURSE REFERRING TO HIS EARLY RECORDINGS WHEN HIS VOICE WAS HEARD ON ALL MAJOR COUNTRY AND ROCK STATIONS.HE WAS A CROSS0VER LIKE CONWAY TWITTY AND JACK SCOTT.HE WAS ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS WHO REMAINS QUITE UNDERRATED IN MY OPINION.THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 2 C.D.COLLECTION OF OTHER GREAT SONGS HE DID.NEW GENERATIONS WILL BE CHEATED BY THINKING THIS IS ALL HE DID!BEWARE OF RERECORDINGS DONE BY ARTISTS AS THEY GOT OLDER.THESE ARE ORIGINALS SO I WOULD RECOMMEND IT UNTIL A MORE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF ORIGINALS COMES ALONG. I'D SAY BUY IT!!!

This review is from: Primrose Lane: Very Best of (Audio CD)
there is some good songs, but the recordings are terrible. it sounds like the engineer did pay no mind to the recording seeds when duplicating the master. this is not jerry wallace of the early 60's

LOWER SLOBOVIA ACCORDING TO GEORGE O'LEARY IS THE AREA WHERE THIS JERRY WALLACE CD WOULD BE APPRECIATED-THIS CHARACTER FROM NEPEAN,ONTARIO OBVIOUSLY HAS NO IDEA WHAT CONSTITUTES GREAT MUSIC.THIS CD HAS BEEN PLAYED CONTINUOUSLY SINCE PURCHASE DATE AND IT RANKS A FIVE STAR FOR GOOD REASON-THERE ISN'T A SINGLE SELECTION ON THE CD THAT DOESN'T DESERVE LISTENING TIME(SHUTTERS AND BOARDS UNFORTUNATELY IS NOT INCLUDED)MR.O'LEARY SHOULD RETURN HIS COPY,DELETE HIS REMARKS AND ALLOW THOSE THAT APPRECIATE GOOD MUSIC TO REVIEW SAME.

Remembering Jerry Wallace,
By A Customer
This review is from: Primrose Lane: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Remember your care free days of the sixties? If so, no doubt Jerry Wallace will come to mind with hits like Primrose Lane. It was an uncomplicated time with enjoyable music and without heavy metal! Primrose brought Jerry acclaim and attention to his talent. Followed up by Misty Moonlight which scored in the charts top ten and is still heard on oldies stations today. This cd will offer enjoyment and prompts great memories of a music heyday for babyboomers. Other songs on this offering will display Jerry's talent and simplicity of sentiment and soothing sound. Enjoy!
